Vernon Young Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Vernon "Jim" Young will be held at 2:00 p. m. on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale, with Reverends Eldon Mayo and Henry Laird officiating. Interment will follow in Palestine Cemetery, Grant, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale. Mr. Young, 96, of Oakdale, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St. Frances Nursing Home, Oberlin, La. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a jokester known for his sense humor and he loved gardening. He was a renowned Dotson and Nissan mechanic for many years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Neal Young; his parents, Anderson and Katie Young; four brothers, Floyd Young, Alva Young, Mervin Young, and Lloyd Young; and one sister, Daisy Cooper. Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory include one son, Jimmy Young of Oakdale; two daughters, Jenny Singleton, and husband Penny, of Mittie, and Peggy Butts, and husband Bruce, of Grant; seven grandchildren, Matthew Manuel, Colby Manuel, Jason Young, Scott Butts, Jerry Butts, Stewart Butts, and Alyson Halvorson; and eighteen great grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held in the Chapel of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 9:00 a. m. until time of service. Honored to serve as pallbearers are: Matthew Manuel, Colby Manuel, Scott Butts, Jerry Butts, Andy Young, Dale Young, Jason Young, and Jimmy Welch.
