Michael J Faas, age 88 of Prairie du Chien passed away Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien surrounded by his family He was born in Gays Mills, WI on September 13, 1935, to Michael and Maggie (Rinehart) Faas He married Mary Jane Moris on September 29, 1956, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Bloomington, WI Mike was employed by Kroger Grocery from 1951 to 1958 He then served in the U S Army from 1958 to 1960 in Hawaii Following his military service, he worked for F W Means for 25 years as a District Manager in Waterloo, IA Mike and Mary Jane moved to Prairie du Chien in 1984 where they owned the Top Half and Garden City Floral In 1988, Mike and Mary Jane began operating the Best Western Motel and seven other motels in Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, and Illinois In 1987, he built, owned, and operated the Super 8 Motel in New Richmond, WI with his wife and son Mark He then started and operated River City Lock Service until retirement in 2012, at the age of 77 Mike served on the Prairie du Chien Military Honor Guard for many years In his free time, he enjoyed fishing Mike is survived by his wife of 67 years Mary Jane; their two sons Michael (April) and Mark (Trincy) Faas; his sister Germaine Foley; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Francis Kapinus A Memorial Service will be Friday, October 6, 2023, at 11:00 A M at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Msgr Charles Stoetzel officiating with private inurnment at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 A M to 10:45 A M , when there will be time for memory sharing Military Honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard immediately following the service In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Crossing Rivers Hospice or Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter, both in Prairie du Chien To to the family or in memory of Michael Joseph Faas, pleaseShow more

Richard D. "Dick" Day, age 74 of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 16, 2023. He was born in Sparta, WI on July 27, 1949, the son of Alvin and Marjorie (Kampman) Day. He graduated from Sparta High School with the class of 1967 before attending Western Technical College in La Crosse, WI. Richard married Jean Severson on February 12, 1972, in Holmen, WI and together, they raised three children. Richard's wife Jean preceded him in death in 2003. He worked on the railroad before working for the telephone company in Prairie du Chien where he stayed for 42 years until retirement. He later married Mary (Novey) Millin on April 23, 2005, and they lived in Prairie du Chien until his passing. Richard enjoyed collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia and various different lanterns. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going camping with his family in Fountain City, WI. He is survived by his wife of 18 years Mary; his children Amy (Mike) Marohl, Jamie Day, and Corey (Jamie Jo) Day; stepchildren Alicia (Jeff) Millin-Zehner, Jeremy (Emily McKenzie) Millin, and Dustin Millin; grandchildren Marissa, Mattingly, Mercedes, Maris, Miranda, Mason, Mitchell, and Megan Marohl, Dallas, Lydia, Ashley, and Calvin Day, and Mercedes Zehner. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Jeanie Woods, Phyllis Manske, and Bill Day. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 11:00 A. M. at St. Gabriel's Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Boscobel Cemetery in Boscobel, WI. Jay Benjamin Wilkinson passed away on Friday, September 15 at Bluff Haven Assisted Living in Prairie du Chein, just 2 weeks shy of his 96th birthday. He is now pain free and standing tall and straight in Heaven. Ben was born September 29, 1927, in Little Grant Township, Grant County WI to Jay and Edna (Morrow) Wilkinson. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1944 and continued farming with his dad. On June 24, 1950, he married Nancy Schneider of Prairie du Chien, and they raised three children on a dairy and hog farm in Bloomington township. He was very proud to be the 3rd generation to own the farm which was originally purchased by his grandparents in 1909. The family was recognized at the Wisconsin State Fair in 2009 for 100 years of continuous family ownership. Ben was a dedicated farmer, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his three children, Greg Wilkinson, temporarily living in Monroe, WI, Diane (Greg) Perkins, Lancaster, WI and Theresa (Steve) Pendleton, Boscobel, WI. Two grandchildren, Jay (Shelly) Pendleton, Monona, IA and Stephanie (Justin Endres) Pendleton, DeForest, WI. Two precious great grandchildren, Emilia Pendleton, and Levi Endres. Ben is also survived by his sister Leona (Joe) Osterhaus of Virginia and cousin Lyle Wilkinson, Prairie du Chien and several nieces and nephews. Ben was preceded in death by his parents Jay and Edna, a brother Leland, an infant sister Betty and niece Tonya Vogel. Nancy passed on October 9, 2022, and now he is by her side again. Friends and family may greet the family on Saturday, September 23 from 9:00 a. m. to 11:00 a. m. at Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien. Private family burial will take place at the Patch Grove Cemetery. Edith Catherine (Lechnir) Ritchie age 93 of Prairie du Chien, WI passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 13, 2023, surrounded by her family at Bluff Haven in Prairie du Chien. She was born in Prairie du Chien on November 11, 1929, the daughter of Wencil and Harriet (Boucher) Lechnir. Edith attended the one-room Hazen Corners School until 7th grade, when the family moved to Hanover, IL. Four years later the family returned to Prairie du Chien and Edith graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1947, the same school attended by her grandmother, Kate Fisher. Next, Edith attended Clarke College, Dubuque, IA, and La Crosse University (now UW-La Crosse). On October 14, 1950, Edith married Don Ritchie at St. John Nepomuc Church in Prairie du Chien, and the couple celebrated 72 years of marriage in 2022. Don and Edith operated Ritchie's Jewelry in downtown Prairie du Chien from 1951 to 2016, with Edith filling various roles, such as, managing the books, assisting customers, paying bills, ordering merchandise, and taking inventory. None of these jobs, though, was more important to Edith than taking care of her children. In her 60s when her children were out of the house, Edith discovered a love of and talent for cross stitch embroidery and created many beautiful panels and personalized Christmas stockings for everyone in the family. Edith is survived by her daughter Kim (Jim) Bergman of Portland, OR; son Ross (Pam) Ritchie and daughter Janet (Randy) Wachter, both of Prairie du Chien; seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; sister-in-law Jeanne Hampton of Bloomington, WI, and five nieces and one nephew. Edith was predeceased by her husband Don and son James "Jimmy" Ritchie; her parents and brother, Lt. William Lechnir, killed during the Allied invasion of Normandy in WWII; sister-in-law Nancy Reiser; brothers-in-law Earl Reiser, Neil Hampton, and Cy Harris and his wife Etta. The family thanks Edith's Bluff Haven staff for the kindness and compassion they showed to her. A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Friday, September 22, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. John's Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating, with inurnment in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass. There will be a reception with lunch in St. John's Hall immediately after the Mass followed by the inurnment. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the charity of your choice.
