Eagle Lake---Verna Marquis, 65, passed away on October 3, 2023, at a Fort Kent health care facility. She was born in Eagle Lake on November 27, 1957, daughter of the late Cyril and Theresa (Saucier) Smart. Verna is survived by three children, Christine Marquis of South Carolina, Theresa Marquis of Eagle Lake, Brad Marquis and his wife Jessa of North Carolina; one grandson, Kingston of North Carolina; ten siblings, Clifford, Mike, Brenda, Norma, Betty, Norman, Daniel, Raymond, Glenn, Steven; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two siblings, Tommy and Rita. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at St. Mary's Church in Eagle Lake. Interment will take place immediately following the Mass at the Parish cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lajoie-Daigle Funeral Home.

Fort Kent---Cora (Ouellette) Levesque, 91, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023 at a health care facility. She was born in Fort Kent on March 28, 1932, daughter of the late Johnny and Rosanna (Berube) Ouellette. Cora is survived by three children and their spouses, Lynn and Guildo Cyr of New Brunswick, Rona and Donna Levesque of Florida, Todd and Meredith Levesque of New Hampshire; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sister, Carmen Rioux of Fort Kent; a brother-in-law, Clarence Levesque of Fort Kent; a sister-in-law, Stella Deschaine of Millinocket. Cora was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ronaldo Levesque; her daughter, Gail Milliard; her sons, Carl and Lee Levesque; her siblings, Victor, Yvette, Adrien, and Conrad Ouellette; six brothers and sisters-in-law. Cora and Ronaldo enjoyed 72 years of marriage, living together in their first home on Pleasant Street until their final months of life. Cora was known for her expert sewing and quilting abilities and was an active member of the Northern Maine Quilters for many years. Cora prided herself in keeping an impeccably clean house while working outside the home and raising six children. She washed her floors a genoux until well into her 80's. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. A strong, loving wife and mother, Cora's Catholic beliefs carried her through the passing of her husband and three of her children. These sad events didn't' break her spirit, but strengthened her faith. Cora was a role model, teaching us how to trust, not question the Lord's will. She was a special lady who can now rest in the company of her beloved husband "Nune", who passed only three months ago. We knew she could not live apart from her true love for long. Madawaska---Colette Russell, 86, passed away on November 19, 2023, at a Fort Kent health care facility. She was born in Blue River, Quebec on August 4, 1937, daughter of the late Ernest and Aline (Ouellette) Theriault. A communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Colette was a member of the Daughters of Isabella. She volunteered countless hours at the church, as well as taking care of the elderly at different health care facilities. She received a national award for the amount of volunteer time she did. Colette worked the night shift as a Registered Nurse for many years at the Edmundston Regional Hospital, also volunteering at the addiction clinic in Edmundston. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty three years, Hudo Russell of Madawaska; two sons, Daniel Russell and his wife Candice of Saco, Ivan Russell and his wife Marlena of Saco; two grandchildren, Alyssa Mascolo and her husband John of Saco, Kelsey Banks and her husband Christopher of Florida; three great grandchildren, Haley, Joseph, and Eliana; two siblings, Raymond Theriault and his wife Monique of Beau Lac, Quebec, and Pauline Labonte and her husband Jean of Levis, Quebec; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three siblings, Charlotte, Jacques, and Louise. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the St. David Church. St. Agatha/Fort Kent---Cecilia "Papoose" Dubois peacefully passed away on November 9, 2023, at a Fort Kent health care facility. She was born in Fort Kent on August 28, 1942, daughter of the late Emile and Estelle (Bourgoin) Hebert. Cecilia's legacy is a testament to her boundless compassion, kindness, and unconditional love for all. For over five decades, Cecilia was a pillar of her community as a proud daycare owner, where she nurtured and cared for countless children, leaving an enduring legacy of warmth and kindness in the hearts of each child and family. In addition to caring for her community, Cecilia found joy in her family, raising three children; Brian, Clark, and Karen, as well as several foster children, including Ronald Hebert. She was a loving wife to Elmer "Chou" Dubois for fifty-nine years, cherishing moments like the day she got her moose. Cecilia loved dancing, especially line dancing, but also lit up the dance floor with a spirited polka, twirling alongside her son, Clark. She had a deep passion for camping and was a founding member of Loons Echo Campground, where she spent twenty-one wonderful years. She loved playing Charlemagne card games with friends from both sides of the border and sipping her caffeine-free diet coke. Cecilia is reunited with her beloved husband Elmer "Chou" Dubois; and her daughter, Karen Whitney; her siblings, Richard, Roland, Clarence, Llewelyn, Paul, Lillian Ouellette, Lorette LaBrie. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her two sons, Clark Dubois and his wife Vickey of St. Agatha, and Brian Dubois and his wife Lisa of Madawaska; five grandchildren, four great grandchildren; three siblings, Pat and May of Fort Kent, Joan Boucher of Connecticut, Rose Plourde and her husband Edward of Fort Kent; many nieces and nephews. Fort Kent--- Philippe J. Cyr, 61, passed away peacefully October 29, 2023, at his home, following a brief illness, with his loving, devoted family at his side. He was born July 31, 1962, in Edmundston, NB, Canada, a son of the late Albe and Thalida (Pelletier) Cyr. Phil had his own drywall company "Phil Cyr Drywall" for over 25 years. He was the best in business and worked several years in central Connecticut before relocating to the St. John Valley in 2003. His family was the center of his universe and cherished being able to spend as much time as he could to support all their endeavors. He was exceptionally proud as his grandchildren were born and he earned his title "Pepere. " He was a master of the grill and loved to invite his friends and family over for his infamous Canadian chicken barbeques. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Laurie (Hebert) Cyr of Fort Kent ; four children, Morgan Butler and her husband Derrick of California, Joshua Cyr and his fiancee Jessica Morin of Fort Kent, Michelle Cyr of Presque Isle, and Austin Cyr of Green River, NB, Canada; two granddaughters, Katelyn and Mackenzie; eleven siblings, Paul Cyr, Robert Cyr, Marcel Cyr, Nicholas Cyr, Guildo Cyr, Richard Cyr, Bernadette Campbell, Louis-Marie Cyr, Alexandre Cyr, Andre Cyr, and Louiselle Booth; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Fort Kent--- Leland Boucher, 61, passed unexpectedly October 9, 2023. He was born April 8, 1962 in Fort Kent, a son of Gertrude (Blier) Boucher and the late Emile Boucher. Lee enlisted with the Maine National Guard and served over 20 years, and he was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Fort Kent. He last worked over 13 years with Maine DOT, Fort Kent, as a devoted snowplow driver and operated many road maintenance projects. Previously he was a diesel mechanic with Frank Martin & Sons for over 20 years. Lee enjoyed working outside and was commonly seen washing one of his cars or motorcycles. His baby, Daisy, was his trusted canine companion who rarely left his side. He enjoyed listening to music, especially country and rock and roll, which would fill the halls of his home late into the evenings. An avid joker, many of his friends were delightfully the butt of his jokes, but all knew well if they needed anything, Lee was the man to call. He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Lisa (Gagnon) Boucher of Fort Kent; his mother of Madawaska; one daughter, Samantha Boucher of Fort Kent; three stepchildren, Sharon Rossignol of Van Buren, Tobey Cyr of Biddeford, and Riva Doucette of Madawaska; one brother, Danny Boucher of Fort Kent; a granddaughter, Hannah; two step grandchildren, Erik and Rowan; and several special nieces and nephews. Besides his father, Lee was predeceased by a sister Brenda Dube. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent. LORRAINE R. LACASSE May 31, 1926 - September 24, 2023 Lorraine Rolande (Landry) Lacasse, formerly of Lewiston, Maine, died on September 24th at Crosswinds Residential Care in Fort Kent, Maine. She was 97. Lorraine was born in Lewiston, the sixth of eight children of Louis and Alice (Picard) Landry. She was educated in Lewiston schools and was an active member of Holy Cross Church. In 1947 she married Maurice Lacasse and together they raised five daughters. Lorraine enjoyed cooking, especially at Christmastime, when she prepared wonderful feasts for the extended family. She was also a talented seamstress. Her engaging smile always brought light to the room. When her husband Maurice died in 2010, she moved to Montello Heights where she stayed for nearly five years. In 2015 she moved to Crosswinds Residential Care in Fort Kent to be near one of her daughters. The family would like to express their profound gratitude to each and every member of the caring and compassionate staff at Crosswinds where she received exceptional care in the eight years she spent there. Besides her husband, she was also predeceased by two daughters, Susan Lacasse in 1982, and Patricia Lacasse in 2016. She is survived by three daughters, Pauline Patterson and her husband James of Venice, Florida; Joanne Fortin and her husband Richard of Fort Kent, Maine; and Claire Murray and her husband James of Millbury, Massachusetts. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Bill Patterson and his wife Parisa Karami of Beacon, NY; Scott Galipeau and his wife Christa of Presque Isle, Maine; Sean Galipeau-Eldridge and his wife Leah of Otisfield, Maine; Thomas Murray of Northglenn, Colorado; Zachary Murray of Golden, Colorado; Peter Murray of Grafton, Massachusetts; also, seven great-grandchildren: Emma, Willa, Brenna, Piper, Sierra, Rainer, and Soheila. The family invites you to a time of visitation on Wednesday, October 11th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am immediately followed by a memorial service will be held following the visitation at the Fortin Group AUBURN 217 Turner St, Auburn, ME. Fort Kent---Vanda Brown (Covelli) beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, born January 1, 1932, passed away September 3, 2023, at the age of 91 in Fort Kent, Maine. She is survived by her children Kathleen, John, Anne, Laura, Michael and Vanda Maria; her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild; her brother, Orazio Covelli, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Ernest Brown and their two daughters Judith and Adrienne as well as three siblings Gina Drew, Anthony and Oresto Covelli. Her parents were Ernesto and Matilda (Scaffaro) Covelli both Italian immigrants who came to U. S. in the 1920's where they met and married in New York. Vanda raised 8 children, worked part time during many of those years and devoted her life to others. She earned her CNA, CMA and Activities Professional credentials and worked in the nursing home field for many years. She especially enjoyed being an Activities Professional. Vanda loved to make puns, play word games and puzzles. Her love of people, knowledge and language helped to define who she was. She enjoyed reading biographies, autobiographies and mystery novels. She was a strong, courageous, smart, and vibrant person. Vanda and Ernest Brown married in November, 1951 in New York. In the early 1960's, Ernest was the victim of a hit and run accident which nearly killed him. He spent 3 years in the Veterans Administration Hospital in the Bronx, NY where he had thirteen surgeries on his face and head. Vanda persevered throughout that time to maintain her family and succeeded in keeping everything and everyone together. Ernest and Vanda moved their family to Coldwater, KS in 1976 where their younger children grew up. Sadly, in her later years she suffered from dementia. In the last six months of her life, Vanda's dementia worsened. She moved to Forest Hill nursing home in Fort Kent, ME where she left this world. We are the poorer for her loss. With love from us all, Mom, may you rest in peace. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
