Vera Renee Ball passed away at the age of 68 years old on Sunday, September 10, 2023 in Charleston. She was the granddaughter of the late Roy and Mellie Baisden and the daughter of the late Douglas Slone and Evangeline Baisden. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Larry Ball and siblings, Douglas Baisden, Roy L Baisden, Blemia Bennett, Amorie Thompson and Brenda Wood. She enjoyed playing Bingo and talking with her family and friends. Left to cherish her memory is her son Jimmy Baisden, grandchildren; Christina Paul, Kristen Baisden, Victoria Donohue and Austin Baisden, brothers; William "Althea" Baisden, Rick Slone and Barry Slone, sisters; Janet Epling and Diana Richards. 6 great grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends. Service will be held on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 2:00 p. m. at Handley Funeral Home in Danville, WV. Family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Franklin "Mark" Kirk, 63, of Bloomingrose, WV went home to be with his Lord on December 1, 2023 after a long illness. Mark was the son of the late Nellie Morris and Frank Kirk. He was also preceded in death by his sister Lisa Lynne Kirk; grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles. Surviving is his beloved sister, Kim Kirk of Bloomingrose; aunt, Pamela Perdue (Charles), special cousins, Angel Adkins and Chris Perdue, Esther Pettry and Lydia Thibodaux whom Mark was like a brother too. ; special friends, Ordy, Frank, AJ, and Kevin; and his beloved church family. A special mention to his cat, Buddy, that gave him great joy. Mark was a 1978 graduate of Sherman High School. He retired from Kroger in Kanawha City. He also worked at Walker Machinery, Walmart, Midtown Dental and was a chef at the Ramada Inn. He was a member of the Racine United Methodist Church. He loved his church and his church family. Mark loved sports. He especially loved his Cincinnati Reds and Miami Dolphins. He also loved bowling and was in a league for many years. He also loved visiting the nursing home in Danville to see his beloved Granny Grump. While it is with heavy hearts we mark the passing of his life, we are comforted to know that he has been greeted by a mother, father, sister and his beloved dog Lucy who passed before him. But more importantly, by the Lord. Service will be 2 p. m. Monday, December 4th at the Racine United Methodist Church at Racine with Pastor Daniel Light officiating. Susan Gail Varney, 59, of Spars Creek Rd. , Danville, WV went to her heavenly home on November 30, 2023 at CAMC Memorial Hospital. She was a daughter of the late Charles Ray Varney Sr. , Virginia Ann Chambers Varney and Betty Ann Varney. She also had one deceased son Bryon Scott Bryant. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter, Norrieca Anne Bryant (Brian Ball); and her beloved dog Mystic Sky; her siblings: brothers, David Long (Teresa) of Wichita, KS, Ray Varney (Dana) of Danville, WV, Bob Long (Jessica) of Greenville, PA, and sister, Melanie Stollings (Roger) of Julian, WV; grandchildren, Aaliyah Grace, Natalia Jade, Brantley Cole, Landon Reece, and Shelby Rayne Ball; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. IN LOVING MEMORY Cathy Atkins Bailey, 1953-2023, November 26th, 1:39am. Cathy was born on November 15, 1953 to Charles and AnnahGay Atkins in Ravenswood, West Virginia. She was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family and friends before herself. Cathy was a strong woman who faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity. She was a source of inspiration to all who met her. Cathy will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she has touched. Cathy was a woman of strong faith and instilled the practice of importance of family, hard work and doing what is right in her children. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and AnnahGay Atkins, her husband Gerald Bailey, Sister Pam Callahan, and her son Bo Smith. She is survived by her brother and sisters, Charles Atkins II, Reida Hamilton, Rhonda Childers, and Lynn Atkins, children, Ericka Carrick, Richard Christian, and Tessie Rambo, Grandchildren Rico, Brandon, Rodney, Kyrie, Elizabeth, Taylor, Shelby, JJ, Devin, Jacob, Destiny, and Brent. Great Grandchildren Audrina, Isabella, Benjamin, Kayia, Adrian, Amora, Malachi, Roman, and Kinsley. The funeral service will be held at Handley Funeral home on Friday December 1 at 2:00 P. M. She was preceded in death by her father Curt Sias; and a brother James Sias. She was a US Air Force Veteran. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Aldridge; her son Greyson Aldridge; mother and step father Lavonna and Roger Napier; two brothers, Daniel Spence and Curtis Sias; and one sister Kayla Spence. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Cove Gap United Baptist Church, Cove Gap, WV with Danny Roberts officiating. Millie Ross 82, of Kiahsville, WV went to be with the Lord on November 27, 2023 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV. She was born December 15, 1940 to the late Clyde and Lola Dyer. She was also preceded in death by her husband George Ross; four brothers, Chester Dyer, Odell Dyer, Ezra Dyer, and Burnie Dyer; five sisters, Odessa Cabell, Gladys Burgess, June Adkins, Blanche Robertson, and Mary Alice Porter. She was a member of the Upper Ten Mile United Baptist Church. She loved attending church and spending time with her church family. She is survived by her son Timothy Ross of Branchland, WV; daughter Darla (Doug) Ramey of Huntington, WV; grandchildren, Jessica (Nathan) Springle and Kain Ramey both of Huntington, WV; one sister Virginia (Wandel) Parsons of Barboursville, WV and a whole host of nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Friday December 1, 2023 at the Upper Ten Mile United Baptist Church Ranger, WV with Pastor Tim Davis and Elder Ronnie Lambert officiating. Jean Javins Pratt Walton, 93, of Charleston, WV passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior on November 22, 2023, after an extended illness. She was born and raised in Foster, WV and was a graduate of Scott High School. She lived at Lippert Terrace in Kanawha City for 30 plus years and was a long-time member of Kanawha City Church of Christ where she was involved in many mission trips to Nicaragua. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse having worked at Heartland, CAMC General, Dr. Hash and as a private duty nurse while being an officer for the WV LPN Association. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Selina Chapter #81 at Malden. She had many interests and hobbies such as Red Hats, AARP Health Talents, Charleston Housing, Book Club, Computer Clerk, bowling, crafts, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and gardening. She loved the outdoors and her favorite place to go was Camp (on the river). She was preceded in death by her parents Carl A. and Maymie Smith Javins; brothers Cue and Carl E. Javins; sisters Mary Ann Halstead and Peggy Barker; and daughter-in-law Karen Darnell Pratt. Surviving Jean is her son Steve Pratt (Becky) of Foster; daughter Debbie Keeney (Joe Bill) of Elkview; grandchildren Kelli Pratt Show (Greg), Brian Keeney (Bridgette), and Jodie Keeney Henson (R. D. ); two great grandchildren Claire and Sadie Henson; sister Juanita Chambers (Dennis); and brother Larry Javins. Rose Anna Carter, 58, of Branchland, WV died peacefully at home November 22, 2023, with her loving husband David by her side. She was born to the late Anna Kitchen and Daniel Kitchen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Daniel E. Kitchen. Rose is survived by her husband, Harold David Carter; a brother, Curtis (Sandy) Kitchen; a sister, Melanie Kitchen; three sons, David Carter, Joeseph (Amanda) Carter, and Robert (Alyssa) Carter; a daughter, Virginia (Terry) Mathis; ten grandchildren, Abagail Mathis, Cynthia Mathis, Juanita Carter, Judith Carter, David Mathis, Breeanna Mathis, Joseph Carter, Betty Carter, Hunter Carter, and Athena Carter. She loved all her family and friends. She also loved crocheting, knitting, and going fishing. She loved and enjoyed going to her church Upper Ten Mile United Baptist where she was a member. Billy Carter Callahan, Jr, 54 of Danville, WV, departed this life on November 17, 2023 at Cabell Huntington Hospital. He was born December 22, 1968 in Madison, WV the son of the late Billy and Pamila Callahan. Jr. enjoyed hunting, fishing, digging roots, molly moocher hunting, riding his 4-wheeler and spending time with family. Those left to cherish his memory include two sisters, Kari (DJ) Kuhn of Danville, WV and Kimberly (Michael) Dunfee of Seth, WV; two brothers, Matthew Callahan and Joseph Callahan both of Peytona; he is also survived by, Kodie Kuhn, Kendra Workman, Kolt Kuhn, Tristan Dunfee, Carter Dunfee, Kayden Callahan, Braylon Callahan and Zoey Callahan. Earl Eugene Balentine, 76, of Quinland, WV departed this world to be with his Heavenly Father on November 16, 2023, peacefully surrounded by his loved ones after fighting a long illness. Earl was the son of the late Paul and Georgie Balentine of Logan, WV. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Webb, Paul, Dale, Rush, Jeff, Sue, Florence, Laurie and Renine. Earl was a member of the Griffiths Branch Church of Christ of Uneeda, WV for over ten years. He was a retired coal miner from Omar Mining where he served 30 plus years. He loved spending time with family and friends. He always found a way to make you laugh with one of his many jokes. He also adored his lawnmower and gravely. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce Ann Balentine; sons, Willie Paul Balentine of Hurricane, WV and Steven (Amber) Balentine of Foster, WV; daughter, Kayla (Robert) Wooding of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Megan Balentine of South Charleston, Morgan (Andrew) Javins of South Madison, WV, Hannah (Chase) Rittenhouse of Milton, Cory Balentine of Foster and Alyssa Balentine of Hurricane, WV; great grandchildren, Paisley Coffman, Natalie Burgess and Jameson Javins; and sister, Faye Tackett of Logan, WV; plus a host of family and friends. Special thanks to our sister-in-law, Cheryl Price of Quinland, WV for all her dedication and loving care over all the years.
