Derrick Michael Roy, 37, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024. A visitation will take place at 11 A.M. immediately followed by a funeral service at 12 P.M. on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church, 705 View Town Road, Amissville, Virginia 20106 with the Reverend Henry G. Hall officiating. The burial will follow all services in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Derrick was born on June 6, 1986 to his mother, Dorothy French, and his late father, Michael Garfield Roy. Surviving Derrick, along with his loving mother, is his stepfather, Robert French; his siblings, Michelle Roy and Tracey Roy; his niece and nephews, Mashayla Roy, Antwan Swain, Marcel Roy, and Andre Deville; and numerous extended family members. Derrick was a die-hard Redskins fan. He never missed a game they played, and firmly believed that “they should have won the Super Bowl”. Derrick also loved ALL of his family deeply. Pallbearers will be Antwan Swain, Marcel Roy, Andre Deville, B.J. Jeffries, Monte Christian, and Darien Roy. The honorary pallbearer will be William Harper.

Billie Ann Cummins, 96, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, at Lynn Care Center. Ann was born October 3, 1927, in Burlington, Kansas, to the late Frank and Vira Wagoner. She was the third of eight children. She grew up in and around Brown County and attended Fairview Grade School. Her Great Aunt Sadie Stone offered to send her to Burlington High School, so Ann moved to Burlington to live with her Aunt Sadie until she graduated in 1945. She met and married William H. (Bill) Cummins on October 27, 1945. The couple moved to California for a short time, then moved back to Kansas to farm. The couple had four children, three girls and one boy. On November 6, 1966, her husband Bill died in an accident. Ann remarried to Victor Post a year later but they divorced after ten years of marriage. She married a third time in 1987 to Eugene Clapp, a retired Army Warrant Officer, Gene Passed away approximately three years later from complications of a surgical procedure. Ann’s education included the following: Graduate of Burlington High School in 1945, Burlington Kansas; An Associate Degree in Business from Victoria Junior College, Victoria, Texas in 1968; master’s in real estate from American College of Real Estate,1978; Correspondence Courses in Mortgage Law I & II and FHA & VA Foreclosures, and Graduated from a two year ministerial training program from Rhema Bible Training Center, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, in 1992. Ann worked several years in civil service as an administrative assistant and a loan approval officer in a home loan company. She started doing missionary work graduating Rhema to include Christian summer camps, Indian Reservation work, Christian Appalachian Projects (CAP) in Lancaster, Kentucky and Ministering in several Nursing homes in Kansas. Ann moved to Virginia in 2020 to live with Carol and Ernie (husband), so she could devote her missionary work with CAP in Kentucky and Nursing Homes in the Virginia area, She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Cummins November 6, 1966; two infant daughters, Ellen Marie 1948, and Brenda June, 1955, her third husband Eugene, and her sisters, Grace “Mickie” Ashton and Becky Peden. Surviving Ann are her children, Carol Bomar (Ernie) of Front Royal, Virginia; and William Bruce Cummins (Marsha) of Spring Hill, Kansas and her sisters, Bessie Penrod of Soldier, Kansas, Zohna Turner of Ozark, Arkansas, and Wanza Saxton of Horton, Kansas; her four grandchildren Julie Maguire (Paul); Jamie Lewis (Lyell); Wm Jason Cummins (Jessica); Christi Pratz (Chad); and ten great-grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Margaret Ann Thompson Boies, 87, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, February 26, 2024. Margaret was born on May 29, 1936 in Rappahannock County, Virginia, daughter of Raymond W. and Bertha Chadwell Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Boies. Surviving are her four sons, Denny Boies (Beth), Michael Boies (Donna), Willie Boies and Tony Boies (Jennifer). Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Margaret took great pride in her lovely home, was a wonderful cook, and always had an abundance of beautiful flowers. There will be a graveside service on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 3 PM at Panorama Memorial Gardens, 4917 Strasburg Road, Strasburg, Virginia.

Albert William Shipe, 69, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at Skyview Springs Rehab and Nursing Center surrounded by his loving family. A graveside service will take place at 11A.M. on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Prospect Hill Cemetery. There will be a celebration of life to follow at The Front Royal Moose Lodge. Albert was born on March 27, 1954 in Front Royal, Virginia to the late Robert and Mary Shipe. Surviving Albert are his three children, Jessica Cooper (Todd), David Shipe (Jessica), and Stephen Shipe (Sarah); his two brothers; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews; and his best friend, Billy Nuckols. Albert was an avid fisherman, enjoyed watching the Washington Commanders, and WWE Wrestling, but most of all he loved his family. He graduated from Warren County High School in 1973 and has lovingly raised his three children as a single father. The family would like to give a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Skyview Springs for their exceptional care for Albert. Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with the funeral services, and in lieu of flowers, Albert would have requested that you vote for Donald Trump in the next presidential election.

Darwin Lee McAfee, 94, of Front Royal, VA passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, at Shenandoah Senior Living, Front Royal, VA. Mrs. McAfee was born in Plattsmouth, NE on January 8, 1930, a son of the late Nobel Dean and Frieda Lydia Sophia Schmidt McAfee. He was the husband of the late Edna Pauline Parks McAfee. Darwin lived a full life of dedication to God, Family and Country. He was a U.S. Armey veteran having served 21 years in the US Army Intelligence as well as two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars and 2 Silver Stars among other metals of accommodation. He was the most positive and optimistic person you could ever meet. His love of people, Friends and Family were obvious to all who met him. He was a hugger and had the gift of Gab. I'm sure you know what I mean if you had ever met him. He dedicated many years and finances to helping others all around the world through various charities. He and Edna worked together on many projects for feeding and housing the hungry. Darwin and his wife Edna gave of their time and finances to make a difference in this world, and it showed. Be happy for him. He is now free from the worldly bounds. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a daughter Kerri Lynn McAffee. Survivors include his children Kevin McAfee (Kimberly), Lee McAfee (Sara), and Kristin Cederborg; his grandchildren Sarah McAfee, Emma Vioral, Aaron McAfee, and Jordan Salyards; one sister Marilyn Hall. A celebration of life service for Mr. McAfee will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Reliance United Methodist Church. Mr. McAfee along with his wife will be laid to rest at Culpepper National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Hugh Joseph “Joe” Henry Jr., 88, of Browntown, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Shenandoah Senior Living. A celebration of life will take place at a later date, Mr. Henry was born on May 18, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Hugh Henry Sr. and Bertha Leu Harper. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Devlin Henry. He was the former owner of H.J. Plastering and Stucco. After retirement, he moved to Browntown and fell in love with the area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors include his daughter, Barbara S. Henry; a friend who was like a son, Joe Marcus; close friend, Barbara Marcus and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. Barbara “Bobbie” Jean Lively-Diebold, 87, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024 in the comfort of her home. Bobbie had a love of plants from a very early age and became a respected horticulturalist who volunteered with the Morton Arboretum in Dupage County, Illinois and taught horticulture classes both in Illinois and in the Washington D.C. area over the years. She was active with several gardening clubs and successfully cultivated many unique varieties of plant species. Always passionate about the people and things she loved, she will be greatly missed. Surviving Bobbie is her loving husband, Robert E. Diebold; her daughters, Dana and Andrea with her husband, Jack; her stepsons, Dan with his wife, Peggy, Mike with his wife, Julia, Steve with his wife, Cecile, and Bruce; her grandchildren; Aiden, Kate, Matthew, Alex, John, Paul, Shain, Gwen, Alexander S., Gabrielle, and Xavier. Bobbie was born on December 12, 1936 in Sunset, Louisiana to her late mother, Leota and her late father, Charles. She is also preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie; who is survived by her husband Robbie; and her sister, Charlene; who is survived by her husband, Charlie and their daughters, Robin and Leslie.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Shirley Mae Chiveral who left this world peacefully on February 13 , 2024 at 79 years old. She was born on December 6 , 1944 to Anna and Cecil Nicholson of Front Royal, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents Anna and Cecil and her brothers, Burnie and Dickie. Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Walter Chiveral of Front Royal; a daughter, Carla Deluca of Pheonix, Az; a daughter, Margie Conley (Brian) of Front Royal; a daughter, Janet Poe (Eric) of Front Royal; a son, Walter “Sonny” Chiveral (Erin) of Bernville, Pa; a sister, Margie Twaddle of Missouri; nine grandchildren, Tony Chiveral (Brittany), Christopher Melville, Keilyn Barrera (Sergio), Breann Oaxaca, Michael Oaxaca, Anna Poe, Mary Poe, Austyn Chiveral, and Parker Chiveral; two great-grandchildren, Renaeley and Everley Chiveral; numerous nieces and nephews; and her two beloved grand pups, Julio and Cooper. She cherished her family and friends, finding joy in every moment shared together. Shirley’s legacy will forever live on in the memories of her loved ones. She will be deeply missed. The family will have a visitation from 6-8 P.M. on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W Main St. Front Royal, Virginia 22630. The family will have a private graveside service at a later date. Pallbearers will be Michael Oaxaca, Austyn Chiveral, Parker Chiveral, Tony Chiveral, Sergio Berrara and Jon Childress. Though Shirley may no longer walk among us, her spirit will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who were touched by her presence. May she rest in peace, knowing her love will endure for generations to come.

Burial will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Whittington was born on June 11, 1934 in Moorefield, West Virginia to the late Mack Baer and Pearl Mayhem Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Francis Whittington; three brothers, Mack Baer Jr., Lewis Baer and Bobby Brown; two sisters, Diane Hickerson and Vivian Gill and three grandsons, Michael Whittington, Christopher Whittington and Matthew Whittington. She was a member of Women of the Moose in Front Royal. Survivors include her three sons, Rodney Whittington (Kathy), Roger Whittington (Betty) and Melvin Whittington (Debra); two daughters, Kathy Easter (Randy) and Donna Nickens (Pearl); brother, Douglas Baer (Sue); eight grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Rodney Whittington, Melvin Whittington, Brian Murphy, Aries Bolanos, Daniel Reil and Cody Shepherd. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
