OAK HILL - Velma Powell Kiley, 91, passed away in the comfort of her home on with her family by her side. Born in Coeymans Hollow on , she was a daughter of the late Edward and Fanny Burhans Powell, and wife of the late John E. Kiley, Sr. , who died . Velma graduated from . She worked on her parents' farm, delivering fruits and vegetables to customers as far away as . Following her marriage, she and John ran their own farm in Oak Hill. Velma was a longtime member of Potter Hollow Union Church. Velma is survived by her children, John Kiley Jr. , Georgianna "Sissy" (Bruce) Myhre, Jacqueline "Jackie" Pinnella, and Patricia "Patty" Zimmerman; special god-daughter, Bobbi Lynn (David) Cunningham and their children, Phebe and Chloe; grandchildren, Maureen Grupe, John C. Kiley, Benjamin Kiley, Michael, Travis, and Jarrod Myhre, Sarah Brown, Kimberly Vaughn, Daniel and Kayla Pinnella, Brendan and Brett Zimmerman; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Richard, and Marvin Powell. In addition to her parents and husband, Velma is predeceased by her siblings, Eleanor Duncan, Shirley Powell, Marjorie Kudlack, Lawrence and Charles Powell. HURLEY - Thelma Armstrong Mack, 82, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023. Thelma was born in Catskill on November 18, 1941, a daughter of the late Floyd and Beulah Sutton Armstrong. She was a graduate of Greenville Central School, class of 1959, and was an active member of the reunion committee. Thelma has resided in Hurley since 1961. She worked for a few years at Central Hudson, and provided child care in her home for 27 years, caring for more than 100 children over those years. Thelma was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Kingston, where she taught Sunday school for many years and served during those years as Sunday School Superintendent. Thelma is survived by her husband of 62 years, George H. Mack; children, Kenneth D. Mack of San Jose, CA, Cynthia M. (George) Loayza of South Riding, VA, and Keith G. Mack of Hurley; grandchildren, Ryan and Kathryn Mack, and Tristan and Devon Loayza; siblings, Edmund Armstrong, Minnie Frees, Marjorie Allen, Floyd Armstrong Jr. ; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her sisters, Mildred McManus and Mabel Jean Armstrong. Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 28 from 11 a. m. until 1 p. m. at A. J. Virginia Buel

Catskill- Virginia "Ginny" Buel 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 23, 2023. Virginia was born on September 20, 1931 in the town of Broome to George and Myrtle Duncan Knowles. Virginia was raised on her family farm on Knowles Rd. in Potter Hollow. She attended a one-room schoolhouse also on Knowles Rd. and graduated from Middleburgh High School. She married Shirley E. Buel on February 20, 1949. Virginia worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service and retired after 37 years. She was a member of the Cairo Methodist Church and the Clematis Garden Club. She took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens that surrounded her home. She loved identifying all the birds that visited her many birdfeeders, especially her favorite, the cardinals. Virginia is survived by her children Benjamin (Terry), Kenneth (Faith) and Kimberly, seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia is predeceased by two sons, Gary Buel and Kevin Buel, brothers Raymond Knowles and Albert Knowles, and sisters Marjorie Dahl and Doris Bode. At the request of the family private services have been entrusted to A. J. Cunningham Funeral Home, 4898 State Route 81, Greenville, with internment being held at the Cairo cemetery. Bruce List

EARLTON - Clinton Bruce List, 81, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at his residence. Bruce was born on Staten Island on December 17, 1941. He attended Public School #5 in Huguenot, Staten Island, where upon graduating in 1956 he won first prize for woodworking and was a member of the school glee club. In 1960 he graduated from Tottenville High School, majoring in electrical wiring. While in high school, Mr. List joined the US Naval Reserve, going on active duty after his graduation. He served on the USS Kretchmer DER 329. He was honorably discharged in Key West, Florida in December 1962 after being a part of President Kennedy's blockade of Cuba. Bruce was a Boy Scout, an Assistant Scoutmaster, and Merit Badge Counselor, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He also was a member of Greenville American Legion Post 291. Bruce worked as a florist in New York City until joining the New York City Transit Police Department in 1965. He retired with 22 years' service, after which he and his wife Barbara moved to Eastham, Massachusetts and bought Nauset Haven Cottages, which they operated for 12 years. They next started a woodworking business, retiring to Earlton 5 years later. Bruce was a member of the NRA and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and target shooting. He won awards in archery, rifle, and handgun competitions. He also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and building his model railroad. Bruce is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Joseph) Sheshene; a grandson, Adam; one brother, Georghe List of Cape Cod, MA and one sister, Barbara Burt of Staten Island. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Barbara, in 2007. A memorial service will be planned for Spring 2024. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Earlton Fire Department, P. O. Sumner, Marge RAVENA - Margaret Ann "Marge" Sumner, 89, passed away at home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Thursday morning, . Marge was born in on . She was raised in Upstate New York and graduated from , and resided in for a period of time. Marge was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Delmar, retiring several years ago. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Ravena, and a member of Mother McAuley Council 3424 Columbiettes. Marge enjoyed growing flowers, collecting Precious Moments figurines, and she loved animals. Marge is survived by her husband, Clayton R. Sumner; children, Robin, Brenda, David, Michael, and Paul; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was predeceased by her mother, Frances Noe, and her step-father, Walter Batease; sister, Miriam; aunt, Marilyn. A heartfelt thanks to nurses Shiela and Dawn for their wonderful care of Marge over many weeks, and to Hospice for their help during the last two weeks. Marge was cremated privately. Preston Hollow- Walter "Bud" Wood passed away Saturday, October 28th at his home with his wife at his side, he was 74. Born in Catskill, NY on August 23,1949 to the late Walter and Mary Wood. Bud was raised in Oak Hill later moving to Preston Hollow. He attended Durham Elementary and graduated from Greenville High School in 1967. He went on to drive trucks for Van Aukens Express, one of his greatest joys was traveling all the local roads and taking in the sights. He was also a Life Member of the Oak Hill Durham Volunteer Fire Company. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brother Thomas Wood and sister Ilene Baisholtz as well as sister-in-law Barbara Wood. Surviving include his wife Maria G. Wood, children Samantha (Paul) Moak, Tabatha (Will) Wagner, Ilene (James) Stark, Walter H. (Sheila) Wood, Jason D. (Melissa) Wood, Lisa (Allen) Holloway, and Robert B. Richter. Brothers Steve and George Wood, sister Linda Richards and, sister-in-law Cam Wood as well as 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. - Robert G. "Bob" Henckel Sr. passed away on . Bob was born in to George and Barbara Bonn Henckel. He met his childhood sweetheart, "Mimi" in at age 9, and they married in 1950. Bob and Mimi were married for 69 years and raised their two children in Westbury. In retirement, they had a camp in the and a home in Queensbury. They enjoyed many happy years there with family and friends. After Bob lost his beloved Mimi, he moved to to be closer to his daughter and granddaughters. Bob made many friends in his new community. Bob served his country in the National Guard, 42 Rainbow Division during the Korean War. He worked for the New York Times as an electrician for over 30 years and was a proud member of the Electrician's . Bob was an avid outdoorsman since his youth. He enjoyed hiking, fishing, mountain climbing, and canoeing. He climbed the Catskills in his youth and was very proud to be a 46er, climbing all the peaks of the . He was a Boy Scout, Scout Master, volunteer fireman, and a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club. He taught his children, grandchildren, and great-grandson to appreciate nature, teaching them to hike, camp, fish, and canoe. To his grandchildren, Bob was also known as the "Cookie Monster", sneaking them cookies before meals. He would tell stories to his children and grandchildren about the Gnomes that lived in the woods. He loved nature and animals, especially his dogs. Bob also loved music and had a lovely voice. He played the guitar, mandolin, "Fiddle", and harmonica. For many years, he and Mimi were square dancers and also loved ballroom dancing. Survivors are his son, Robert "Bobby" Henckel Jr. and wife, Robin Richards; daughter Kathleen "Cassie" Henckel Malone and husband, Jack Malone; grandchildren, Jessica Malone Stauffer and husband, Marc Stauffer, Sean Malone, Kelly Malone Mann and husband, Harold Mann; great-grandson, Jack Stauffer; step-grandchildren, Laura Malone Navatta and Karen Malone; sister-in-law, Jo Meagher Nelson. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Miriam "Mimi" Meagher Henckel; his parents; and brother, Edmond Henckel. David James Reinhard, 71, passed peacefully into eternal life on October 8, 2023, with family by his side. David was born on February 1, 1952, in Camp Lejune, North Carolina to Clarence (Jim) and Ruth Reinhard. He was raised in Saugerties, NY where he graduated from Saugerties High School and later earned a bachelor's degree from Stony Brook University. In 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lynn Garrison, and moved to Greenville, NY to raise their children. David worked as a Dispatcher for Red Star Trucking company and was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Norton Hill where he served as the Organist for more than 20 years. He was an Eagle Scout and Rotary member. David had many hobbies including playing the piano, music, reading, golfing, and most recently meeting people from all over the world while working for Ft Myers Airport. However, his greatest joys in life were his family and his love of the beach. His happiest times were the years he spent with the love of his life, Mary Lynn, and their three children on the shores of Topsail Island, North Carolina; A place that he always regarded as home. He most recently resided in Ft Myers, Florida surrounded by extended family and an ever-supportive group of friends that became family. David was predeceased by his wife Mary Lynn Reinhard (Garrison) and his parents Clarence (Jim) and Ruth Reinhard. He is survived by his children: Jaime (David) Chismark of Voorheesville, Jason (Courtney) Reinhard of Greenville, and Maggie (Ethan) Stanley of Delmar; his brother Donald (Elaine) Reinhard and his sister Kathleen (Michael Henn) Reinhard; Eight grandchildren - Elliott, Riley, Addison and Cora Chismark, Benjamin and Julia Reinhard, and Oliver and Ruth Stanley; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. James Smith

James Walter Smith was born March 28, 1937 in Manhattan at Knickerbocker Hospital to Austrian-born mother, Julia Wouk, and Preston A. Smith of Louisiana. His mother affectionately called him her 'Easter Bunny'. Jim was raised in Laurelton, Queens, New York. Their family of three children, sisters Barbara and Marilyn, weathered the loss of their father tragically in 1953 prompting their move north to South Westerlo shortly after. City boy turned mountain man, young Jim had movie star looks and was a lot of fun. He raced cars and taught sheriffs fast driving on dirt roads. He worked as an electrician for the Union and set up gas stations from Albany to Plattsburgh. Jim also worked many years doing body work for Furman's Garage in Westerlo and restoring vintage cars. He loved car races and in younger years boating, fishing, hunting and horses. Mostly he lived to cruise around and would hop-to to help with any situation that involved cars or rides. Especially to his merciless grandchildren, Jade Elizabeth and Trista Julia, who preferred the silver knight transport over the yellow bus to school, rain or shine, spoiling them with Dunkin Donuts on the way. He also enjoyed doing chores for his extended family like mowing laws, plowing driveways and doing dump runs. Of course if your car had an issue that's where he really shined. He was quick to make his hands greasy with vast intricate knowledge of car engines. Jim had an undeniable charm and panache, filled with invented one liners, he could talk to anybody and didn't hold back what he was thinking. We won't mention the temper. He liked music played loud. Jim fell in love on a date at the Altamont fair and lived 43 of his 86. 5 years with his darlin' Brenda Klob in Greenville, along with their beloved 21lb havanese, 'killer' Quinn. Jim had been married three times in younger years. Twice to Joan Payne, producing beautiful sons Curtis Preston (deceased 1962), James Curtis and Donald Edwin (Matt VanVoorhis) --and then later to Sheila Bowles having (apple of his eye) Victoria Marie (Emmanuel Castro). He was an epic father to his children. He naturally taught them all how to drive before they could reach the pedals. Jim was the beloved only uncle to his nieces and nephew and the cool big brother type to his cousins. Jim transitioned from this world back to the universe with the eclipse and at the height of the new moon-- Saturday, October 14, 2023-- to be dearly missed by those who appreciated his heart, wit and wisdom -- and unique quirks and sparks. Larger than life itself, amongst the last of his kind, it is hard to believe he's gone. . fast n' furious to the big surprise party in the sky.
