Velma Johnson Obituary

Velma Oveda Johnson was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. She worked for several years as a Secretary for the Suffolk Public School District and left there as God blessed her union of marriage with a daughter, Delicia. After six years, she went back to the workforce as a Secretary / Dental Assistant for Dr. Vernon L. Rainey. She then worked for the STOP organization as an Administrative Assistant where she retired after fourteen years of service. After retiring she volunteered at Sentara Obici Hospital where she enjoyed helping people. Oveda is survived by her daughter, Delicia J. Wyatt; one sister, Bettie Vestine Ford; nieces and nephews; several cousins; a host of friends and a very special part of our family, Mr. Rick Joyner. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Adam Johnson, Jr. and her parents, Sherman Lee Nichols and Betty Sue Nichols and brother, Sherman Nichols, Jr. She was a lifelong dedicated member of Mt. Ararat Christian Church. She served faithfully on the usher board ministry and was a member of the choir. Our community has lost a pillar. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with and those who were apart of her life in some way through her blessed journey and walk of life. Viewing will be held Friday, September 15, 2023 from 4 pm- 7 pm at Carver Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum 2320 E. Washington Street Suffolk, VA 23434. Service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 @ 11 am at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home 2551 N. Armistead Avenue Hampton, VA 23666. Interment will take place at Carver Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum.
