Vance BostdorfVance Truman Bostdorf, 74, passed peacefully from his home in New Buffalo Monday August 21, 2023 with his loving wife at his side. Born Saturday November 6th, 1948, to the late Francis and Margaret Bostdorf. Vance was a quiet man devoted to his family. He was known for his pride in the National Rifle Association, National Turkey Federation, and any excuse to go turkey hunting, the true passion in his life. He was an outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing as well as outdoor activities. Vance also enjoyed landscaping his yard, feeding the birds and squirrels, and spending time with his grandsons. He worked for many years and retired from Excel Logistics. Vance is predeceased by his parents, an infant sister, brother Richard Bostdorf and step son Scott Kline. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Ann Kline Bostdorf of New Buffalo; son Michael Bostdorf and wife Danette of New Buffalo; two grandsons Jacob and Zaron Bostdorf of Duncannon; great grandson Archer Bostdorf of Duncannon; brother Walter Bostdorf and his wife Sun of Camphill; sister Gayle Fenton of Enola, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. James B. Crownover, 78, of Danville and formerly of Duncannon, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Emmanuel Center for Nursing, Danville, PA. Born on June 29, 1945 in Summit Township, WI to the late Joseph C. and Helen (Cunningham) Crownover. He was a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. James was retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission as a data analyst. He and his wife were the former owners of the Holden Beach RV Park in Supply, NC. He was the founder of the Duncannon Navy, enjoyed kayaking and was interested in the preservation of the Doyle Hotel in Duncannon. While living in Duncannon he and his wife enjoyed their home, where they raised Christmas trees for sale during the holidays. Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Eugenia C. "Genie" Crownover, a son, Mike Crownover and his wife, Erin Kohrherr of Orangeville, a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Langdon of Austin, TX, a brother, William M. Crownover of Mt. Union, 4 grandchildren, Taylor Langdon Crownover, Garrett Langdon Crownover, Blakely Crownover and Blair Crownover. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Crownover, a brother, Joseph C. Crownover, Jr. , and a sister, Laura Jean Crownover. Services will be private for the family.Show more

Carl Marcovici

Carl S. Marcovici, 63, formerly of Harrisburg and Duncannon, passed away Tuesday August 22, 2023 at Bayhealth Hospital, Sussex Campus, in Milford, DE. Born October 7, 1959, in Harrisburg, Carl was a son of Shirley L. (Heckert) Marcovici, of Harrisburg, and the late Stephen Marcovici. While challenged in the eyes of some people, Carl did not let his disabilities limit his desire to lead a fulfilling life - he was insightful and displayed a positive outlook. He was refreshingly comical and possessed a playful demeanor. Carl was friendly and outgoing and always tried to be helpful to others. He enjoyed food - especially sweet potatoes and rice pudding - walking the ridges, valleys and paths of Perry County, playing dominos, and shopping trips to Boscov's - which usually ended in a visit to Auntie Anne's Pretzels. Carl was an inspiration to many and his presence will be felt for years by those whose hearts he touched. In addition to his mother, Shirley, he is survived by his brother, Stephen Marcovici, Jr and his wife, Sherrie, of Duncannon; and sister, Julia Marcovici of Millsboro, DE and a nephew, Josh Pechart. A private committal service and interment will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg, at the convenience of the family. Esther P. Rathfon, 86, of Duncannon, has passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 surrounded by her children. She was born on December 21, 1936 in Duncannon to the late Jesse Miller Burd Ferguson and Catherine I. (Dare) Ferguson. Mom was the devoted wife of Robert L. Rathfon to whom she was married for 53 years when he passed away in 2009. She was a graduate of the Duncannon High School, Class of 1954. After graduation she went on to hold various jobs, retiring from the Defense Logistic Agency in 1994. Mom was a true friend to all she met, helping those who were in need. Esther leaves behind her children; Lori (Rodney) Gasswint, Linda (Gaynor) Kelley, Karen (Nelson) Tennis, Robert Rathfon, and Preston Rathfon. Grandchildren; Kari Fritz, Jessica (Jason) Barlup, Nicholas (Crystal) Tennis, Kelli Gasswint, Clinton Tennis, Erin Kelley, Hannah Rathfon, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, a sister, Suzanne (George) Noss and several nieces and nephews. On November 4, 2023, Helen Elizabeth Clugston (Leiter), 79, joined her heavenly Father and gained her angel wings, surrounded by her loving family. Helen was a lifetime resident of Duncannon and shared her motherly love with everyone she knew. She was always there when you needed her, and will be greatly missed. Helen was preceded in death by her son Shawn L. F. Clugston, mother and father Lillian C. and Frank O. Leiter, Sr. , and brothers John B. Leiter and Frank O. Leiter, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 58 years Lee E. Clugston, sister Ruth V. Dillman, daughter and son-in-law Laura L. and Bryan E. Achey, daughter-in-law Wendy A. Clugston, grandchildren Megan L. Achey, Jason P. Achey, Nathaniel S. Clugston, and Zachary P. Clugston, and many nieces and nephews. Helen was a lifetime member of the Middle Cove Bible Church. She worked for the Duncannon Record and Perry County Times for 35 years. She loved spending time with her family, cooking for family, playing cards, and taking drives. While Helen's family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember her in a way that honors her spirit. Helen's family invites the community to join them in a Celebration of Life Ceremony. It will take place on Helen's 80th birthday, November 14, 2023 at the Otterbein United Methodist Church 327 Newport Rd. , Duncannon, PA 17020. Visitation will be from 10:00 A. M. - 11:00 A. M. , followed by the Celebration of Life Ceremony at 11:00 A. M. Everyone is invited to remain after the service for a luncheon to share great memories of Helen. Donna L. Kauffman, age 73, passed away on Sunday October 23, 2023 at her home in New Bloomfield, PA. She was born December 4, 1949 in Mt. Union, PA. She was the daughter of Kero and Viola (Mitchell) Dimoff. Donna worked for a local restaurant as a waitress before her retirement. She loved flowers, watching the hummingbirds outside her windows, and going to the drag races with her family. Donna enjoyed watching football and cheering for her favorite teams the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family, friends and grandchildren along with her special dog Sarah. She will be greatly missed and always remembered by her family and friends as a devoted mother, and grandmother. Donna is survived by her two sons Kenneth Kauffman and his wife Tammy, and Jesse Shoemaker. She is also survived by her grandchildren Neal Rose and his husband Andrew Godleski, Mason and Grant Kauffman, Gianessa and Lilliana Shoemaker. Gary Michael Hough, 67, passed away in his home in Marysville, Pa. , on Oct. 13, 2023, beside his loving wife of 45 years, Diana (Schoonover) Hough. Gary was born Nov. 12, 1955, in Bath, N. Y. , to Ronald and Jane (VanDusen) Hough. In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his sons Adam (Kristin) and Alexander (fiancee Samantha), and his two granddaughters Harlow and Luca Hough, who were, together, the apple of his eye. Despite the suddenness of his death, the family is grateful that he spent a lot of time with friends and family the last few weeks of his life. Gary worked for the railroad for 40 years, starting as a track worker for Penn Central (before it became Conrail and, later, CSX/Norfolk Southern). Relying on a strong work ethic and deep knowledge base, he quickly climbed ranks, ultimately becoming Manager of Equipment for System Production Forces. Gary belonged to the Masonic Lodge and Moose club in Marysville, PA. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially at camp with dear friends Robert and Ross Volk in Betula, PA. Gary was a mechanical wizard and would never turn down anyone needing help. He loved to tinker with nearly everything, including: household appliances, on which he mostly succeeded; plumbing, cars, where he resisted the urge to take over while teaching his sons; and projects around the house, for which he prided himself as having saved money. He played Yahtzee every morning with Diana, with both sides participating in healthy banter. Diana and Gary enjoyed traveling and were frequent visitors to Myrtle Beach, S. C. He recently joined a golf league at Deer Valley in Hummelstown. He also enjoyed cooking and combining recipes, which mostly worked. His salsa was a favorite for all cabana guests, especially his granddaughters. The family will remember fondly his favorite saying "I Will Leave The Light On"A Celebration of Life Service in Honor of Gary will be held the day after his birthday on Monday, Nov. 13 from 2-6 p. m. at Whitetail Lodge in Marysville. Rather than a serious and somber ceremony, Gary would've wanted a casual celebration along with casual attire. Gary's favorite footwear, Crocs, are encouraged. Robert Shuey

Robert L. Shuey, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Thursday October 19, 2023 at UPMC West Shore Hospital at the age of 83. Born on May 27, 1940, in Harrisburg, he was a son of the late Robert B. and Doris (Deibler) Shuey. Bob served in the U. S. Army from 1957 to 1960. On January 12, 1963, he married Joanne E. (Dietz) Shuey with whom he has shared a blessed union of 60 plus years. Bob had been employed by the Quaker Oats Co. for 36 years until his retirement in 2001. He was a member, and former usher, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Enola. Bob loved sports and was an avid Penn State Football and Philadelphia Phillies fan. While spending time with his family was always his highest priority, he also enjoyed working in his yard and tinkering with his pickup truck. Bob is survived by his wife, Joanne; a daughter, Karen Rhan and her husband, Jon of Washington, NH and a son, Robert Shuey, Jr. of Enola; six grandchildren, Cassandra Smith and her husband, Adam of Bow, NH, Amanda Barrett and her husband, Christopher of Goffstown, NH, Samantha Wyly and her husband, Shane of Amarillo, TX, Adam Rhan of Londonderry, NH, Chloe Shuey and Robert Shuey of Newville; four great grandchildren, Avery and Oliver Barrett and Janessa and Corban Wyly. He is also survived by two brothers, Thomas Shuey of Erie and John Shuey and his wife, Jeannine of Harrisburg. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Shuey. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for his viewing on Saturday October 28, 2023 from 1:00 to 2:00 P. M. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 4685 Mt. Zion Drive, Enola, followed by his funeral service at 2:00 P. M. with Rev. John F. Overman, III officiating. Committal with Military Honors will be in the Evergreen Section of Union Cemetery, Duncannon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Mt.
