Nancy Fairgrieve Burton, 87, of Wilmington, NC, died at 5:30 pm Nov 23rd, of Parkinson's Disease. In order to remember this wonderful and beautiful lady, a celebration of her life seemed to be the best way to say our goodbyes. On Sunday January 14th, all friends of Nancy and Dick's are welcomed to gather at the Country Club of Landfall Nicholas Clubhouse for a light lunch and refreshments from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Surviving is her husband, Richard Greene Burton; three children, Jeffrey Greene Burton and wife Susan of Huntley, IL, Janet Lynn Burton and husband Paul Forscher of Guilford, CT, and Steven Richard Burton and wife Jill of Scotch Plains, NJ; five grandchildren Michael Burton and wife Caitlyn, Katherine Burton Bakker and husband Will, Kristen Forscher and fiance Dan Josloff, Kyle Burton and Marissa Burton; three great-grandchildren, Nolan Burton, Oliver Burton and James Bakker; one sister, Joan Fairgrieve Logue and husband Laird; and one sister-in-law, Carol Fairgrieve whose husband and Nancy's brother, Robert Fairgrieve, precede them in death. Nancy was born on April 7, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Robert P. and Geraldine Horton Fairgrieve. She was a proud graduate and outstanding member of Mt. Lebanon High School, class of 1954. She continued her education at Duke University, graduating in 1958 with a degree in elementary education. While at Duke she met her husband to be Dick, taught for a year in Mt. Lebanon, and married her sweetheart in June 1959. Dick's business assignments took them to live in Upper Montclair, NJ, Park Forest, IL, Naperville, IL, Westport, CT, Dayton, OH, Berwyn & Paoli, PA. During her stays over the years in these communities, Nancy was very busy raising their 3 children but was still active with church committees, bridge groups, book clubs, sorority and alumni groups. Nancy was the primary attendee and cheerleader for the children's activities, be it a school concert or play, or athletic activities such as soccer, track, ice hockey, or the family sport of baseball. And then came the grandchildren's activities which took trips to other states. In 1997, Dick retired, and they decided to move to a warmer climate in Wilmington, NC. Nancy was a member of the Country Club of Landfall where she enjoyed both tennis and golf. She was active in two different book groups in the community of Landfall, the AAUW Vision Screening at Elementary Schools in Wilmington and was a member of the Landfall Foundation Grants Committee. As they entered their 80s, it was decided a 1 level condo best suited their needs. Dick was charged with getting rid of all the junk accumulated over the years and Nancy was charged with reading every single letter she had saved over the years. Once that was completed, the couple moved to a condo nearby in the Villages at Mayfaire, Nancy's last stop. On June 27th, 2023, Nancy and Dick celebrated 64 years of a wonderful marriage. Memorial donations in Nancy's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or to Lower Cape Fear Life Care, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.Show more
