Judy Kay Sailer, 82 years old, peacefully passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. Judy was born on September 3, 1941 in South Bend, to the late John and Irene (Treber) Sailer. She was a 1959 graduate of New Carlisle High School and later graduated from Porter Business College. She retired as a secretary to the Director of Transportation in McAllen, Texas. Judy also had a love for auto racing. Left to cherish the memory of Judy is her brother, John Sailer of LaGrange, Indiana. She was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Steinbrunner. There will be no services held at this time. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Donations in honor of Judy may be made to Disabled American Veterans, National Wildlife Federation, Foundation Fighting Blindness, or The Humane Society of the United States. James Jay Thomas Sr. , Affectionately known as JJ, departed this physical world on November 30, 2023. Born on December 9, 1981, in South Bend, Indiana, he was a pillar of strength, a beacon of hope, and a symbol of unwavering faith in his community. A warm, supportive soul, he was always thoughtful, ready to lend an ear or extend a helping hand to anyone in need. His faith was the compass that guided him through life. James spent his fruitful life of 41 years in the heart of Indiana, moving between South Bend and Mishawaka. The janitorial field was his chosen profession, a testament to his generous spirit and his belief in the dignity of labor. His work was not simply about cleanliness but making spaces inviting and comfortable for others. He was never married but was a loving father to his three children and a caring brother to his siblings. His life was a beautiful tapestry of love, service, and faith, and he was a living example. James leaves behind his devoted Parents James Thomas (Loretta) and Florence Blanks his loving siblings, Anisha (Marcus) Wells, Quantina Townsend, and Edward (Lakysha) Thomas, and his cherished children, I'jaha Thomas, James Thomas, and Eriyanna Robinson-Thomas. He also leaves behind a special friend Alayna Brooks. James was preceded in death by his brother Richard Hardy and his grandparents Richard and Sarah Alexander, and Ernestine and Roosevelt Thomas. Roy L. Fry Sr. 64, passed away at 8:05pm Friday, December 1, 2023 in his residence. Roy was born on November 26, 1959 in South Bend to John and Betty Lou (Rock) Fry. They preceded him in death along with his wives Bonnie (Bertolan) Fry and Joann (Caplinger) Fry and three brothers David Giles, Danny Giles and Pete Fry. Surviving are two daughters Angel Fry and Angela Fry, two sons Roy Fry Jr and Adam Fry, 8 grandchildren Shantoria Patton, Damorea Patton, Dakota Fry, Isabell Fry, Holden Fry, Jayvion Davis, Makenna Davis and Makiyaha Davis, two sisters Sherry Longacre and Effie Minchew and 4 brothers Henry Fry, Michael Fry, Andy Fry and Karl Giles. Lillian Joy Milliken, 90, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at the home of a friend, Helen Kaley, on December 3, 2023. Joy was born February 19, 1933 to Vernon P. and Elma Rainey Galloway of Saulsbury, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Milliken (January 16, 1988); her siblings - Mary Sybile Williams, Hazel Annette Brasfield, Gene Galloway, Earl Wayne Galloway, Leria Joyce Hawks (her twin sister) and Robert W. Fortune. She leaves one sister-in-law, Betty Fortune, and many nieces and nephews, who loved her dearly. After 42 years, Joy retired from Bergens Brunswit. She was an active member at Lydick United Methodist Church, lifetime member of Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club, and American Legion 284 Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, line dancing, playing cards, dominoes, puzzles, working with yarn and crocheting. Her mother passed away when the twins were born. The twins, Joy and Joyce, were adopted by Aunt Ruby and Uncle Bobby Fortune because of the care they needed. Joy brought so much joy and fun to everyone she met. She will be dearly missed. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Nancy B. Meers, 95, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at Wellbrooke of South Bend. She was born on March 4, 1928 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Michael and Betty (Smogor) Nyikos. On February 26, 1949 she married Henry A. "Hank" Meers who preceded her in death on June 23, 1987. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Laura Meers. Nancy is survived by three children, Kathy (Bob) Kent of Folsom, California, Tim M. (Gayle) Meers of Niles, Michigan, and Lisa A. (Tony) Augello of Naperville, Ill. She was also survived by loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Nancy was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Sandpiper Cove Run Euchre Club and The Holy Cross Alumni Club. She loved to play bridge. She was a 1946 graduate of St. Joseph's Academy and a graduated from Holy Cross College with an Associate of Arts Degree. A visitation for Nancy will be held on Saturday, December 9,2023 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1050 Wilber St. , South Bend, IN from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
