Tracy Tilton Hammonds, 60, of Cowan, Kentucky, passed away on August 10, 2023, with his family at his side at Fleming County Hospital in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. He was born April 7, 1963, in Governors Island, New York, to Joseph Tilton "J. T. " Hammonds and the late Beverly Brogan Hammonds. Tracy was an avid collector, a hard-working tobacco farmer, and a skilled wood craftsman. A 1981 graduate of Fleming County High School and a member of the Green River Archaeological Society, Central State Archaeological Society, Appalachian Foothills Artifact Collectors Association, and the Genuine Indian Relic Society. He enjoyed walking fields looking for arrowheads, digging for bottles, woodworking in his shop, and spending time with his family. Tracy was married to his devoted wife, Debbie Oliver Hammonds of Cowan for 33 years. He is also survived by his son, Chase Tilton Hammonds of Cowan; nephew, Robert Joseph Hammonds (Emily) of Acworth, Georgia; brother, Richard Hammonds of Cowan; sister, Lori Alderman (John David) of Dover, Kentucky; brother, Scott Hammonds (Stephanie) of Athens, Tennessee. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P. M. Tuesday August 15, 2023 in the chapel of the Price Brothers Funeral Home with Brother Greg Grimes, Rev. Sammy Harris and Rev. Greg Tucker officating. Tracy will be laid to rest alongside his family in the Elizaville Cemetery. Visitation will take place at 5:00 P. M. on Monday evening, August 14, 2023 Casket bearers will be, Cliff Campbell, Randy Walker, Hayden Bybee, Tim Young, Lyle Smith, and Monty Pennington. Sterling Owen Conn, 82, of Flemingsburg, passed away the morning of Thursday, November 23, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Fleming County on March 9, 1941, to Audra Willis Conn and Alma Iolene Harris Conn. Sterling married the love of his life, Pauletta Ellington, on July 1, 1961. For many years Sterling worked at Bobby's Auto Sales. He was an accomplished wood worker, building many treasured pieces of furniture for his family and friends. Sterling was a long-time member of the Shiloh Methodist Church where he attended faithfully with his family, neighbors, and friends. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pauletta; his four children, Paula (Larry) Robinson, Pamela (Sherman) Royse, Patsy (Mike) Adams, and Rob (Christi) Conn; his nine grandchildren, Kimberly (Kevin) Galloway, Ashley (Gary) Kinder, Travis (Katie) Robinson, Sarah (Hayden) Smith, Samantha (Cody) Thompson, Zach (Brittany) Adams, Shelby (Gabe) Richmond, Zeke Conn, and Jesse Conn; and his 11 great-grandchildren, Keenan, Kolby, Korban, Garrison, Case, Owen, Emma, Camilla, Elliana, Weston, and Elijah. Sterling was preceded in death by his parents, his infant son, Johnny Conn, and his great-granddaughter, Sadie Thompson. Mrs. Anna Florence Jones Dyer, 81, of 123 Smoot Lane, Flemingsburg, Kentucky, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at her son's home in Mauk, Gerogia. Anna was born on June 2, 1942 in Armstrong, Pennsylvania, to the late Ada Mae Blanton Jones and William Clyde Jones. She was married to Kelly Edward Dyer on March 31, 1960 by Brother Vestal Hamm in Rowan County, Kentucky. She is survived by one son, William Scott Dyer of Mauk, Georgia, whom she loved very much, and one brother, Clarence Ernest Jones, of Indiana. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A special niece Kim Jones, and Mark Lowe of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, who were always there for her, and one sister-in-law, Brenda Jones of Ewing. Special adopted family John Vahugh III and John and Carol Vaughn and Lisa Hartley. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, James "Jimmy" Paul Jones, William "Billy" Hixton Jones, Clyde "Tommy" Thomas Jones, and John "Bobby" Robert Jones, and three sisters, Mary Catherine Jones, Elizabeth Carolyn Hill, and Mable Jean Sosbe. She had a good home with Gary and Carol Cantrell, Michael Cantrell, Braydon Cantrell, and Danielle Lands, whom she loved like they were her own grandchildren. They all called her Mamaw. She also loved her dog, Maggie Mae, very much. A special thank you to Virginia Bray, a friend who helped care for Mrs. Anna. Anna loved children and babysat 38 of them. She loved cooking and canning food from her garden and made beautiful flower arrangements. Anna worked for Mrs. Elizabeth Korens nursing home in Flemingsburg for 2 years, Sorrell's Restaurant for 3 years, and also Fleming County Packing for 15 years. She loved reading her Bible and helping friends and neighbors. She also ran Mrs. Anna's Memorial day Flowers. Dr. Gene F. Conway, born on August 24th, 1928, in Cynthiana, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 29, 2023 surrounded by his devoted family. The son of Cora Jane Hall Conway and F. Lee Conway, Gene's early years were shaped in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, where he excelled academically and athletically, serving as the Captain of the Basketball team at Fleming County High School. In 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Jean Williams, having proposed marriage on their first date and every date thereafter. After several moves to further educational and professional pursuits Gene and Jean ultimately established their family home in Georgetown, Ohio, where they have resided for nearly half a century. Dr. Conway is survived by his devoted wife of 73 years and leaves behind a legacy carried forward by three daughters--the Honorable Lisa Allen Beebe, J. D. (Chuck), Janet Conway Fleenor, RN and Linda Conway Hensley, M. Ed. (Doug)--and six grandchildren--Michael Allen, Jr. ,J. D. (Lara), Cora Allen, J. D. (Andrew), David Fleenor, III, Daniel Gene Fleenor, Isobel (Izzy) Hensley, and Cecelia (CeCe) Hensley. In his youth, Gene pursued higher education at Kentucky Wesleyan and the University of Kentucky, earning induction into the academic honors fraternity Phi Beta Kappa. He obtained his BS in 1949 and continued his studies at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (UCCM), graduating with an MD in 1952. He completed an internship at Philadelphia's General Hospital and went on to a residency in Internal Medicine at Louisville General Hospital. He returned to UCCM where he served as a resident in internal medicine and hematology. Following this, he assumed the role of Chief Medical Resident at Cincinnati's General Hospital and then became a United States Public Health Service Resident Fellow in Cardiology. He was a Korean War veteran in the US Air Force where served as Chief Medical Officer at Forbes Air Force Hospital on the Topeka Air Force Base. In subsequent years, he served as an IMA reservist at Walter Reed, attaining the rank of Colonel and fulfilling the role of Reserve Chief of Medicine during emergencies. Dr. Conway's first love was clinical research and he served as a Clinical Investigator at Cincinnati's VA Medical Center, conducting impactful research and publishing numerous studies. Notably, he was the first to document and publish findings on the biochemical and biophysical alterations in contractile proteins of the heart muscle, correlating with heart function. Dr. Conway pioneered the introduction of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) concept in Cincinnati. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in bringing forth the Critical Care Unit (CCU) concept, undertaking the training of nursing staff in CCU care, which encompassed the crucial skill of arrhythmia recognition. His contributions extended to the education of cardiac fellows--physician trainers--in acute cardiac care. Dr. Conway actively participated in the initiation and execution of the VA cooperative study on Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) and the cooperative study on vasodilation for the diagnosis of Myocardial Infarction and Congestive Heart Failure. Notably, he served as the VA representative for the NIH Cardiorenal Study, showcasing his commitment to advancing cardiovascular research and care. Dr. Conway presented his research at the Society of Medicine in London, England and was invited to present at the National Institute of Health and Medical Research in Paris, France. As the Associate Dean of Rural Health, Dr. Conway played a key role in establishing the Ohio Statewide Area Health Education Center (AHEC) programs, administered through the University of Cincinnati with an office in Georgetown. The AHEC's mission is to promote medical schools' efforts in expanding the training of students and residents in underserved community-based settings. Dr. Conway's program served as the model program for all other medical school AHEC programs in Ohio. Dr. Conway developed the University Health Plan for the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and was a staunch advocate for patient's rights. Additionally, he served as the Interim Director of the UC College of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine and also as the Associate Director of Clinical Affairs. He served as the Medical Director of Ohio Valley Manor in Ripley, Ohio for over 40 years retiring in 2019. Dr. Conway was honored to be appointed as a Kentucky Colonel in 1985 and bestowed with the Heart of Brown County Award by the Brown County Chapter of the American Heart Association. His achievements were further acknowledged through his inclusion in notable publications such as American Men and Women of Science, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in America. A devoted fan of the UK Wildcats Men's basketball team since the era of Adolph Rupp, Dr. Conway also held a lifelong passion for the American Saddlebred Horse. This appreciation for horses was a shared family passion, as his daughters were all accomplished riders and competitors. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than to spend time at the barn with his girls. He bred, owned and even trained Tri-State Horse Shows Association 5-gaited and 3-gaited Champions. Dr. Conway owned and cherished numerous others of this elegant breed. Julia Mae McGlone Benton, age 95, of Colfax, went to be the Lord Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Pioneer Trace Nursing & Rehab in Flemingsburg. Born August 11, 1928, in Ewing, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Iva Jane Moore McGlone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Benton on April 10, 2002. Mrs. Benton is survived by one daughter, Jean (Daniel) Jent of Hillsboro; one son, Timothy (Janet) Benton of Flemingsburg; one sister, Margaret McGlone of Grange City; 10 grandchildren, Jamie (Judith) Jent, Lee (AJ) Jent, Donnie (Erika) Jent, Janie Jamison, Jodie (Lonnie) Spivey, Deana Benton, Scotty (Shayla) Benton, Tyler Benton, Anna (Angel) Perez, and Kelly (Gonzalo) Apale; 31 great grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family and friends.
