Rosemary Gibbs, age 81, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. Rosemary was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on January 31, 1942 to Dimple and Hubert Heflin. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sister Berniece Bratton. Rosemary is survived by the love of her life, Jerry Gibbs. They married on March 10, 1961 in Houston, Texas and built a beautiful life together for 62 years. In addition to her loving husband, she is also survived by her daughters Jenny and Susan, 6 grandchildren: Kendall (Shinji) Strain, Jake (Sarah) Cooley, Sam Cooley, Daniel (Bridget) Coborn, Brittany (Nick) Fernandez, and Caity (James) Carr, 7 great-grandchildren, and siblings: Janet (Mark) Benavides, David (Jeanne) Heflin, and Keith Heflin. Rosemary graduated from Reagan High School and later worked for various companies in the Houston area providing administrative support. Her true passion was her family. She was immensely proud of her daughters and loved spending time with loved ones, especially during the holidays. She was an incredible hostess and had a knack for making everyone feel welcomed and included. She will be remembered as a sweet, funny, and loving wife, mom, aunt, gram and sister. The family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care that Theresa Mendez has provided during this time.Show more

Betty was born to Lewis Olis Roach and Sidney May Southerland on June 9, 1935 in Eddy, Texas. Betty was the youngest child in the family of nine children (8 girls and 1 boy). She was preceded in death by all her siblings and was the last survivor of her generation. She raised 3 sons: Michael Doyle Landers, Brian Keith Landers and Philip Wade Landers. Betty had a natural born outgoing personality that was a joy to be around. She always had a smile for visitors and the nurses at the nursing home. She had a great sense of humor and loved to joke and laugh and dance and sing. Betty was a member of the Pearland Church of Christ. Christ called Betty to her heavenly home on December 7, 2023, at the age of 88 and 6 months. Words cannot express how much she was loved or how much she will be missed, but we know that she is now in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Services will be held at the graveside of Forest Park Funeral Home at 6900 Lawndale in Houston on December 15, 2023 at 10am where she will be laid to rest. She had a great sense of humor and loved to joke and laugh. She also loved to dance and sing.Show more

Leroy Umland

Leroy Orvill Umland was born September 24, 1945, to Frank and Arlene (Kronberg) Umland in Hanford California and was the eldest of two, having been blessed with his baby sister Donna the day after his fifth birthday. He graduated from Hanford High School in 1963. Among one of his first jobs was night security in farmer fields which he later retold stories of how he handled local kids caught trespassing trying to cause havoc and have a good time. He joined the United States Army not long after high school and during his early years in the military he met the love of his life and future wife, Elaine Stuart. He went on to marry her in December of 1967 in the company of friends and family. During his military career, Leroy completed three tours in Germany, and was stationed in Texas, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Georgia to name a few places. Leroy worked his way through military in the Engineer Corp, assigned to work on and lead several construction projects where he was stationed. His engineering experience gave him a solid foundation for a woodworking hobby which he used to create beautiful and ornate wall clocks for friends and co-workers. During his first stay in Germany, he and Elaine were fortunate to travel throughout Europe, visiting various countries and historical landmarks including the Neuschwanstein Castle and the Secret Annex of the Frank family. In his second tour in Germany, Leroy's son Douglas was born in Frankfurt and his daughter was born in Honolulu while he was stationed in Hawaii. Leroy retired from the Army in 1988 at the rank of Sergeant First Class at the end of his third stay in Germany and his family settled in Susanville California where he took some temporary jobs for a few months until he was taken on as a permanent employee by the Susanville School District as a middle school custodian for Diamond View School and later at Meadowview School. After the passing of his beloved wife in 1998, he remarried to Marcia. In 2001 Leroy celebrated the birth of his first granddaughter and then his second in 2006 before moving to Sante Fe Texas with his second wife after his retirement from the school district. Leroy took pleasure in his newest hobby of acrylic painting which brought him joy in committing his memories of the Sierra Nevada mountains and trips to the beach to canvas. In 2019, Mr. Umland laid his second wife to rest and lived out his remaining days enjoying his painting, watching old western movies and chatting online to people all over the world with shared interests. He succumbed to a brief but fierce eight-month battle with cancer and treatment complications on December 4, 2023. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Leroy was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Arlene Umland, his first wife Elaine Umland, his second wife Marcia Umland, and his son Douglas Umland and is survived by his sister Donna Neal of Hanford CA, daughter Regina Randall of Susanville CA and granddaughters Mystaya Randall of The Dalles OR and Cirrus Randall of Wahiawa HI. Mr. Umland will be put to rest at the Houston National Cemetery on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 11:15am with Military Funeral Honors in the company of friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all his loved ones.Show more

Cuando llego a casa por primera vez, Rocky se puso celoso porque ella era nuestra chiquita. Todos queriamos cargarla y besarla. A ella le encantaba ser besada y jugar "peek-a-boo" con mama. Mientras que papa le dio a probar su primer mango y como le encanto. Era la companerita de mama en el trabajo. Cuando miraba que papi entraba por la puerta ella sonreia. Eliana, nos trajiste momentos hermosos que vamos a llevar en el corazon por siempre, nuestra chiquita. Chiquita de mama y papa, de hermana, de hermano, y de todos la quienes la amabamos con el alma.
