Nags Head, NC – Samuel Cobb “Sammy” Cotton, 76, passed away February 27, 2024 in Peak Resources-Outer Banks. Born and raised in Franklin, he was a son of the late Robert Howard Cotton, Sr. and Margaret Whitfield Cotton. He was also predeceased by his brother, Robert H. “Bobby” Cotton, Jr. Sammy was a graduate of Franklin High School and a retired banker. He was a long-time resident of Richmond during his working years. Sammy was a member of the Silver Riders Bicycling Club. He always had and loved dogs. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Suzanne Cotton Councill of Manakin-Sabot, VA; his sister-in-law, Anita H. Cotton of Coinjock, NC; and nieces and nephews, Andrea C. Stone, Allison L. Cotton, George Councill Jr., Peter Councill, and Samuel E. Barbara Donatelli McPherson, 64 of Nags Head, NC left the burdens of mankind and earth behind and ascended into Heaven on Saturday, February 10, 2024. Barbara was born on June 20, 1959, in Providence Rhode Island to Vincent and Marion Donatelli and was the youngest of the four children in the family. Barbara spent her entire childhood living on Cottage Ave in North Providence RI and graduated from St. Patrick’s Catholic School for girls in 1977. While attending Rhode Island Jr college in 1979 she met her future husband on a blind date. They were married on Dec. 10, 1981, in Charleston, SC and she embarked on an adventure that would include living all over the United States and overseas in Asia. In 2005 Barbara moved to the beach in Nags Head, NC and spent her time enjoying the ocean, her two children, five grandchildren, three German shepherds and her cat. Barbara touched many lives in her long journey through life. She was loved by many for her kind nature and willingness to help those in need. A renowned cook, she enlivened many occasions and holidays with her skills as a cook and baker. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, and older brother, John. Those left to cherish Barbara’s many deeds and memories include her husband of 42 years and two months, Bob; son Jared McPherson, Jared’s wife April, and their children Colton and Ryan of Kill Devil Hills NC; daughter Rachael Woodhams, Rachael’s husband Chris and their children Caitlin, Brenna, and Avery of Virginia Beach VA. Barbara’s sister Marilyn Donatelli of North Smithfield, RI; and her sister, Lee Sisak of Chepachet, RI, along with many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends who loved her and will miss her. William Raymond White

William Raymond White, of Nags Head, NC, known to his friends as Ray, passed away on February 18, 2024, at the age of 79. A longtime resident of Manns Harbor and Nags Head, NC, he was born on August 31, 1944, in Columbia, NC, to William Stanford White and Grace Willard Mann White.Ray led a fulfilling life dedicated to service and community involvement. He graduated from Manteo High School in 1962, earned his Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina University in 1967, and furthered his education by attending LSU School of Business. His career spanned various roles, including working at Planters Bank as a teller, serving as a city executive for Dare County Centura Bank, and later becoming the regional president at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). Ray's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish OBX Bank, which eventually evolved into TowneBank.Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ray was deeply committed to his community. He was an active member of St. Andrew’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and building committee for the newest sanctuary. Ray was also a founding member of the Outer Banks Community Foundation in 1982, serving on the board for 16 years. His dedication continued as he contributed to various organizations throughout the community, including the Outer Banks Tourist Bureau, Dare Education Foundation, the Outer Banks Sporting Events Board, the North Carolina Aquarium Society, the board for Jennette’s Pier, and the North Carolina Wildlife Commission. He was instrumental in the building of teacher housing in Hatteras and Run Hill in Kill Devil Hills. Impressively, Ray also chaired the Dare County ABC Board for 49 years.In recognition of his dedication and service, Ray received the prestigious Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award from Governor Roy Cooper.Ray is survived by his loving wife Linda Shields White, daughter McKenzie Brooke White (Nathan A Kainz) of Durham, NC, brothers Stan M White (Susie) and Wade E White, niece Wanda Grace White, and nephews Hunter White (Stacy), Paul Hinton, and John White.The family will receive friends and relatives at Twiford Colony Chapel on Monday, February 19, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church on February 20, 2024, at 11:00 am. Rev. Nathan Finnan will officiate. A private graveside committal service will be held at Mt. Charles Mike Reilly

Charles Mike Reilly of Nags Head, NC passed away peacefully in his home on February 2, 2024. He was born December 30, 1945 in McKeesport, PA, the son of Andrew and Reta Reilly.Mike graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1963. He attended Lehigh University where he earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He was a standout athlete in high school and college and won many awards and accolades in both baseball and basketball. He is being inducted into the West Jefferson Hills Hall of Fame in March, 2024. He began working at Alcoa in 1968 where he met his future wife, Kathleen Whalen. They were married May 17, 1969. His career with Alcoa took him and his family to Buffalo, NY; Rochester, NY; Boston, MA; Chicago, IL; Hong Kong; Washington, DC; Natchez, MS; Lausanne, Switzerland; Frankfurt, Germany; Pittsburgh, PA; and after retiring, they relocated to Nags Head, NC. During retirement, he passed his time working at various local businesses, served on the Nags Head Planning Board and was an active member of Nags Head Golf Links, where he won two senior championships. He was an avid game player and loved spending time playing cards and board games and spoiling his grandkids. He enjoyed telling elaborate bedtime stories to his children and grandchildren and was rumored to have taught Michael Jackson how to dance. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Whalen Reilly; his brother Timothy (Jackie) Reilly of Jackson, MS; his sons - Andrew Reilly of Zelienople, PA; Kevin Reilly of Raleigh, NC; Michael (Tanya) Reilly of Pflugerville, TX; and his daughter Erin (Mike) Kowalski of Beaver Falls, PA. He was also survived by two dear daughters-in-law- Danielle Cammisa and Marcie Craig. He will be sorely missed by his six grandchildren - Travis Reilly, Anthony Reilly, Taylan Coyne, Joshua Reilly, Gianna Reilly and Gavin Coyne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.Services will be private. He was 76 years old.Jeff dedicated nearly 50 years of his life as a technician for United CoolAir Corporation in York, PA. His commitment and hard work were evident throughout his long and successful career, earning him the respect of his colleagues and superiors.Outside of work, Jeff had a variety of interests that brought him joy and fulfillment. He had a keen eye for finding a good deal and loved tractors, finding delight in their power and functionality. He loved to hear a good story and enjoyed sitting in the woods, taking in the tranquility of nature or simply spending time gently swaying on a swing. Additionally, Jeff was an avid antique and coin collector, always seeking out unique pieces to add to his treasured collection.Above all else, Jeff cherished his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He found immense joy in their presence and treasured the time spent together, creating lasting memories filled with love and laughter. On any given day, Jeff could be seen with his faithful companion Milo, bringing each other great comfort.Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Hazel Stoner Thornton and Emory Daniel Thornton, as well as his son, Jeffrey Regan Thornton Jr. He is survived by his devoted wife, Carol Anne Stockdale Thornton, his son Todd Matthew Thornton and wife Natalie, and his two cherished grandchildren, Rose Elizabeth Thornton and Benjamin Reese Thornton.A memorial service to honor and celebrate Jeff's life will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and pay tribute to his memory.Twiford Funeral Homes, Outer Banks is assisting the family with arrangements. E. Alan Bell, Jr. June 1, 1950 – December 31, 2023 Eldon Alan Bell, Jr, 73, of Manteo, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the Outer Banks Hospital in Nags Head. Alan was born in Alamance County, NC on June 1, 1950, to the late Eldon (Bill) A. Sr. and Pauline (Polly) Hubbard Bell. He was married to Ellen Cammer-Bell who survives. Alan was a music enthusiast who enjoyed attending concerts all over the country and loved to spend time with his faithful fur baby Jazz. Alan attended Chowan College and Paul D. Camp Community College taking technical courses in drafting. Per his request, no services will be held at this time. In addition to his wife surviving are a stepdaughter, Mary Speer Crews (Joe) of Durham; a granddaughter, Amaya Crews; one brother, John David Bell (Mary Evelyn) of Chesapeake, Va; a brother-in-law, Jimmie Bridgers of Conway, NC and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Stephen Bell, and a sister, Paula Bell Bridgers. Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Columbia.

Jane Jackson, 98, of Nags Head, NC, died Monday, December 25, 2023, at home surrounded by family. She was born in Kingwood, WV in 1925 to the late Hilton and Ethel Anderson. She was predeceased by two brothers, Hilton Anderson, Jr. and James Anderson. Jane attended West Virginia University, later transferring to Duke University, where she graduated in 1948 as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. She worked at Norfolk General and Chesapeake General Hospitals. Jane married Robert Glenn Jackson in 1951. Widowed in 2018, they enjoyed 66 years together.She was a member of Nags Head Church and a former member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. Jane is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Bob and Nancy Jackson, Steve and Carolyn Jackson, Scott and Susan Jackson, Mitch and Brenda Jackson; nine grandchildren, Becky and Justin Hornback, Ben and Kim Jackson, Whit and Sydni Jackson, Tom Jackson and Emily Ruppel, Mark Jackson and Elizabeth Kwong, Paul Jackson, Mary Jackson, Will Jackson, and David Jackson; six great-grandchildren, Anna, Cate, Olivia, Emily, Arthur, and Daphne; and a sister-in-law, Lillian Anderson.A celebration of life event will be held at a later time. Manteo- Eugene Robinson Austin, affectionately known as "Buddy" age 76, passed away in Nags Head November 29, 2023. He served his country proudly and bravely as a veteran of the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Eugene "Buddy" ministered through music: from eastern North Carolina to Virginia. His musical gifts and organizational skills led Buddy to envision and create the Manteo Male Chorus, the Manteo Community Choir, the Columbia Community Choir, and several other musical collaborations. Buddy's performances were highly regarded by other famous musicians near and far. Buddy is a humble gift to the body of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Lillian Meekins Austin; his long-time friend Carole Scott; his niece Tanaya Farrow, and his nephew Jamie Farrow. Eugene R. Austin leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Bessie Farrow, Charleen Mathews (Larry), Sally Simmons (Eddie); one aunt, Pensecola McClease; four nieces Rhonda Carver, Carla Beale (Dwayne), Davina Austin, and Latora Cason (H. Patrick); two nephews, Travis Mathews and Eddie Simmons, Jr. ; and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Eugene's passing is also grieved by his loyal friends and long-time employers, Betsy Seawell and partner, Kerry Landherr and the Islander Motel family. Susi leaves to cherish her memory; her loving husband, Robert "Bobby" Gentry; her two girls, Sarah Clark (Freddy) and Andrea Lambert (Dave); grandchildren, Cameron, Savannah, Garrett, and Collin; and pet her children- Sochi and Sandi. Susie is also survived by her mother, Bettye Machen; her sister, Betsy Carmark (Mark); her brother, Phil Machen (Patti); and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her father, Charles Philip Machen. Susi was a Virginia Beach native who graduated from Cox High School and was a long-term employee of Fotomat and a local Chiropractic practice in Virginia Beach. She and Bobby relocated to Nags Head in 2007, where she volunteered with Nags Head Elementary School and was an active Outer Banks Presbyterian Church choir member. Susi was an amazing woman who loved her family deeply and was always eager to help those around her. She was the best friend of everyone she knew and lit up any room with her smile and kindness. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. A celebration of life will be held in the coming weeks.
