Timothy Shaffer, 70, of Crittenden, KY passed away Sunday September 10, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care in Edgewood. Born on Thursday November 11, 1952 in Millerstown, PA, he was the son of the late Elwood and Alice Rumfelt Shaffer. He was a graduate of Susquehanna High School in Harrisburg, PA. Upon graduation, he enrolled at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. Afterwards, he went on to pursue his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Penn State University. On April 14, 1973 he was united in marriage to the former Mary Ellen Epping; she survives. After 25 years of service, Timothy retired as a Compliance Division Chief for the Internal Revenue Service in 1996. In May of 1973 he entered the United States Navy where he earned the rank of Petty Officer. Being a community-minded citizen, he gave back to his community by serving as Chairman of Grant Co. Solid Waste 109 Board, President of KLMS Music Inc. and for over 20 years served as a substitute teacher for Grant Co. Board of Education. He was an accountant and an electrician and had a genuine love for farming. Under the administration of Governor Paul Patton, he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel. He was an active member of St. John's Mission Catholic Church - Center Ridge in Demossville, KY. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years, Mary Ellen Shaffer; five daughters: Carolyn (Scott) Asher of Dry Ridge, Christine (Jerry) Hyden of Dry Ridge, Laura (Mike) Smith of Dry Ridge, Lisa (Kevin) Stone of Dry Ridge and Emily (Jared) Kenner of Crittenden; one sister: Joan (Ron) Neidig of Mifflintown, PA, along with 14 grandchildren: Rachel Lilly, Luke Hyden, Julia Hyden, Sophia Asher, Ryan Asher, Trent Smith, Lydia Smith, Sarah Smith, Carrie Mae Stone, Adam Stone, Keith Stone, Regan Kenner, Riley Kenner, Timothy Kenner and one great-grandchild: Berklee Mains, all of whom lovingly called him "Pappy". Over the years, the Shaffer family also hosted five exchange students: Evelina Anderson of Sweden, Masami Hara of japan, Katherina Korth of Germany, Ben Kienasf of Germany and Olga Federova of Russia. Graveside services for immediate family ONLY will be held Wednesday September 13, 2023 at 1:00 at Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge with Father Benton Clift officiating.

Paul R. Simpson was born Jan. 20, 1965 in Covington, Kentucky and passed away suddenly Nov. 13, 2023 in Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 58. He was the son of Lawson B. and Shirley Roland Simpson, they survive. Paul was a retired High School Teacher having taught at Grant County and Williamstown High Schools. He was also an adjunct professor for Northern Kentucky University. After retiring from teaching Paul went on to work as the Bison Care Coordinator for Big Bone Lick State Park where he also served as the Fish & Wildlife Tech. Paul was a hard worker and loved serving his community in every way possible, as a member of Mount Olivet Christian Church in Williamstown and at his school where he served the students as a member of the Site Based Council and was often writing grants to help the schools. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a history buff and a life long learner. While he stayed busy working and volunteering, what he found most important was his love for his family and spending time with them. On June 24, 1995 Paul was united in marriage to the love of his life, Rachel Lee Rawlings Simpson. In addition to his wife of 28 years, he is survived by his daughter, Emily Simpson Kingsmore (Ryan) of Georgetown, his son, Mason Charles Simpson of Williamstown, 1 sibling, 4 nephews, 1 niece, and he was excited about his grandson on the way, Jackson Paul Kingsmore. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023 at Mount Olivet Christian Church in Williamstown. Visitation will also be Saturday from 11 AM - 2PM at the church.Show more

Lowell Atwood Roland, 88, of Mt. Zion, passed away Sunday, November 12 at his home. He was a loving, generous, and Christ following husband, father, and grandfather. Lowell was preceded in death by his son, Bradley Glenn Roland, parents, Manson and Estelle Roland, and brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Helen Roland. He is survived by the love of his life for 65 years, Nancy Chowning Roland. He is also survived by two daughters, Sheila Madden (Bill) of Mt. Zion and daughter Stacey Daley (Brian) of Smyrna, GA, four grandchildren, Kristen Chapman (Jason) of Crittenden, Rachel Baxley (Jeremiah) of Georgetown, Orry Madden (Brittin) of Belmont, NC and Liam Daley of Newman, GA, as well as one great-grandson, Everett Roland Chapman and many nieces and nephews. Lowell served in the Army from 1955-1957 and was deployed to South Korea in 1955. He worked for Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati for 37 years while simultaneously operating the family beef cattle and tobacco farm. He was also the neighborhood machinist, and could fix anything that anyone needed, from home decor to truck parts. He was an active member of Williamstown Baptist Church and loved to spend the winter with his wife and friends of Hobe Sound, FL. Janet Combs Brashear, of Williamstown, KY, passed away peacefully two days shy of her 93rd birthday, on Friday November 3, 2023 at Rosedale Green Nursing and Rehab Center. "Nanny", as she was affectionately known by everyone, was born on November 5, 1930 in Glomawr (Perry Co. ) KY, she was the daughter of the late Goodloe and Nellie Cornett Combs. On October 30, 1948 Janet was united in marriage to Rev. Aaron Wallace Brashear; he preceded her in death on February 28, 2004; she graduated from Viper High School (Perry Co. ) in the spring of '49. She was formerly a member of First Baptist Church of Hazard; her current membership was at Williamstown Christian Church, where she was actively involved in the ministries of the church. Her faith in the Lord was an important stronghold all throughout her life. Because of her uncanny cooking abilities, she was lovingly referred to as "The World's Best Cook". Her cooking talents and managerial skills quickly landed her a job managing Kentucky Fried Chicken from 1979-1985 where because of her efforts, was nationally recognized as a "Gold Standard" restaurant. She was honored by Kentucky Fried Chicken for her accomplishments in achieving a million dollar store in a town of 6,000 residents; she then served in the same capacity at Lee's Famous Recipe from 1985-1996. Survivors include two daughters: Sharon Brashear of Las Vegas, NV, Susan (David) Cornett of Williamstown, KY; two sons: Wally (Jeanie) Brashear of Williamstown, KY, Robert (Ernestine) Brashear of Berea, KY; five grandchildren: Christie Brashear Parker (Jared Delaney) , Allison (Coy) Lunsford, Leann (Michael) McCuddy, Austin (Ashley) Brashear, Emily Grace Cornett and her special friend, Cody Lamothe, along with five great-grandchildren: Mason Michael McCuddy, Avery Jade McCuddy, Banner Alan Brashear, Brinlyn Reese Brashear, Braylee Grace Brashear and a very special caregiver, Glada Richardson. She was preceded by all seven of her siblings. Visitation will be Monday November 6, 2023 from 11:00 a. m. - 12:45 p. m. at Stanley Funeral Homes - Williamstown. Funeral services will begin at 12:45 p. m. with Bro. Gary Swick officiating. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Aaron, in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery - North (KVC-N) with an arrival time of 2:00 p. m. Beverly Sue Roland was born March 24, 1952 in Williamstown, Kentucky and passed away October 31, 2023 in Williamstown, Kentucky at the age of 71. She was the daughter of the late Audrey Violet Fortner and Jesse H. Roland, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse H. Roland, Jr. in 2013. Beverly was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who worked for the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. She served many communities throughout her career, especially Owen and Grant Counties. In addition to serving through her work she was very involved with God's Community Church in Williamstown and loved helping others. It was commonly said that you would never meet a more positive and compassionate person than Beverly Roland. When she wasn't loving on people, Beverly enjoyed quilting and sewing as well as collecting antiques and quilts. Aunt Sue as she was known by her family is survived by a sister: Cheryl Darlene Roland of Williamstown; a brother: Larry W. Roland of Williamstown; a niece: Dolores (Mark) Luke of West Liberty, KY; 4 nephews: Wayne L. (Sue) Roland of Williamstown, Mike Roland of Erlanger, Matthew Larry Roland of Demossville, and Jesse George (Sydney) Roland of Dry Ridge; and several great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM, Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023 at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home.
