Mrs. Patsy Arbutus Shortt Hess McKinney, age 72, of Summersville, West Virginia formerly of Vansant, Virginia passed away Thursday (November 16, 2023) in a Beckley, West Virginia hospice facility. Born February 15, 1951 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Earn Henry and Pearl Mae Street Shortt. She had lived in West Virginia for the past twenty-three years, moving there from Vansant. She was a devout Christian of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed singing gospel music. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed quilting, gardening, and painting pictures, but most of all spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Evans Hess; three brothers, Lee McKinley Shortt, Troy Edward Shortt, and Larry "Joe" Shortt; and one sister, Martha Shortt Horton.
Survivors include her husband, Paul McKinney of the home; two sons, Chad Hess and wife, Beth and Terry Hess and wife, Amy all of Vansant; two step-daughters, Karen Baisi and Kelly Gray; four grandchildren, Derek Hess and wife, Shawna, Caleb Hess, Megan Hess, and Jenna Hess; step-grandchildren, Rick Elkins, Sr. and wife, Staci, Kaley Gray, and Patrick Baisi; two great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Hess and Gabriel Hess; two step-great-grandchildren, Rick Elkins, Jr. and Cheyenne Elkins; two sisters, Virgie Shortt Clark and husband, Joe and Madine Shortt Owens and husband, Bill; one brother, Pete Henry Shortt and wife, Dawn; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Anthony Hale officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 1 - 2 Pm Sunday at the Honaker Funeral Home.Show more
