Ms. Catherine Faris Cockman “Mama Cat”, 87, of Clover, SC, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024. Ms. Cockman was born September 2, 1936 in Clover, SC to the late William Great “Grier” Faris and Edith Pauline Stewart Faris. She was preceded in death by her brothers, William Great Faris and Arthur Harry Faris, and her sister, Nannie Elizabeth Faris. Survivors are her sons Rusty Cockman (Sandra) of Clover, SC and Ronald Cockman (Debby) of Wildwood, FL; daughter Robin Payton (Dan) of Clover, SC; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. Mama Cat has touched the lives of hundreds of children. They have all grown to adulthood and most are parents and grandparents now. The Lord called Mr. Richard John Schriefer, 96, home on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Richard (Dick) was born on October 20, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Henry Diedrich and Elsie Lillian (Enkemeier) Schriefer. He was a Life Scout in the Boy Scouts. Dick was drafted into the US Army in 1945 and served 18 months in Nuremberg Germany as a guard in the prison of war camps. Dick met his future bride, Lois Madeline Doughty in 1948 and they were married on March 25, 1950. They were married for 68 years until Lois’ death in 2018. Dick worked in electronics and as a Nuclear Medicine Field technician for Raytheon until his retirement in 1992. They had three children, Steven (Susan) of Clearwater, FL, Keith (Denise) of Clover, SC, and Donna Johnson (Craig) of Jamestown, TN. Dick loved spending time with his sons doing Boy Scouts and Little League and he shared a love of horses with his daughter. He was an avid bowler and was on a men’s league for over 50 years. Dick enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams rooting the NY Mets and NY Islanders. Dick loved God and Jesus. He and Lois were members of the Lutheran Church of St. Stephen in Hicksville from 1956-2014. When they moved to Clover, SC they joined the First United Methodist Church of Clover. Dick is survived by his 3 children, sisters-in-law Lorraine Schriefer of Dodgeville, WI and Joan Johnson (Joseph) Holbrook, NY, 5 grandchildren, Daniel, April, Christopher, Ashley and Keith. He also had 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his sister Marilyn Donaldson and brother Eugene. The family has elected for no services at this time. It was Lois’ wish for her ashes to be mixed with Dick’s and the choice was his as to the placement. Dick wanted his ashes to be spread at the last place he rode a horse with his daughter. The place will be in Raspberry Gulch, Nathrop, CO with a view of Mt. Princeton in July to commentate the last date he rode a horse. Hopefully the last horse he rode, Sky, will be the one to carry their ashes. Anyone interested in joining for the occasion will be welcome and you can contact Donna. Oliver Max Ramsey Sr. of Clover, SC passed on January 2, 2024, at his residence. He was born on April 24, 1930 in Cleveland Co NC to Samuel Buster and Hattie Morris Ramsey. His family relocated to Hillsboro, Georgia area and later made his home in Eatonton, Ga for over 70 years. He retired from Hercules in Covington, Georgia and was also a veteran from the Korean War, and continued to serve his country in the Army National Guard, after returning from the Korean War, until his retirement in 1990. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Ann R. Benton and Nellie R. Moore and brothers Samuel Ramsey and Robert Ramsey, and grandson Wesley Adam Ramsey.  He relocated to Clover, SC seven years ago to live with his daughter.Visitation will be on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel from 5 to 7 pm, the service will be on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Vining Ivy Hill Chapel at 11 am.He is survived by his wife of 68 years Ida Harper Ramsey, son Oliver Ramsey (Vivian) of Covington, Georgia, daughters Tammy Semmler (Stan) of Gordon, Georgia, Penny Mazzola (Mike) of Ormond Beach, Florida and Elaine Sommer (John) of Clover, SC.He has 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.He enjoyed gardening with his wife Ida and he enjoyed telling stories and driving the large cargo trucks while in the military.

Ms. Zion Briella Meeks, 19, of Clover, South Carolina, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2024, at home in the loving arms of her mother and father. Zion was born January 21, 2005, in Gastonia, North Carolina to Antoine Lauoisier Dunlap and LaTonya Meeks Sanders. She attended public schools in the Clover School District, where she participated in the Special Olympics. She absolutely loved to watch the sun rise, gaze at bright lights, and receive hugs and kisses (sometimes). She really enjoyed her time outside swinging on the swings and vacationing with her family at the beach. She had a mean left hook that would have made Joe Frazier jealous. Zion’s smile was contagious and a spirit lifter. She was a fearless warrior who inspired any and everybody that crossed her path. Zion will definitely be missed but never forgotten. Zion is predeceased by her grandfather John Dunlap. She is survived by her parents, Antoine and LaTonya; her brothers, Darren Sanders and Ryan (Jessica) Dunlap; Grandparents, Johnnie Henderson, Clinzo (Betty) Meeks, Esther Dunlap, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Gloria Dean Hinkle Cauthen, 77, of Clover, SC, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024, with her devoted husband by her side, after a courageous fight against Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). She was predeceased by her parents, Elbia and Inez Sisson Hinkle; her brother, Jim Hinkle, and her nephew, Bradley Hinkle. Born January 5, 1947 in Circleville, OH, Gloria was a graduate of South High School and attended Capital University and Ohio State University. She was a longtime resident of the Carolinas, where she was a partner and founder of SCMS, Inc. Gloria was a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother. Nothing can ever compare to the fierce love she had for her family. She was a loyal friend to many and very active in her communities. Bob and Gloria were inaugural Charlotte Hornets and Carolina Panthers season ticket holders, and they attended as many Clemson games as their schedule allowed. Gloria was a talented writer, passionate about cooking (and entertaining), and brilliantly creative. She and Bob were often attending or hosting a myriad of themed or costumed-parties. Both avid gardeners, their beautiful home and yard were perpetually in bloom. Gloria could sing any song as gracefully as she could dance to it. She was nurturing and caring, fun and spontaneous, grounded and grateful. She was joy, in the truest sense of the word. In addition to supporting her grandchildren’s sporting and school events, Gloria was a member of River Hills Women’s Club, River Hills Yacht Club, River Hills Garden Club, and served on various committees at River Hills Country Club. She was also a member of York County Republican Women, Avanti Social Club, Edisto Island Yacht Club, a South Charlotte Gourmet Dinner Club (the “Pigs”), a Lake Wylie Dinner Club, a Lake Wylie Martini Club, and the matriarch of Long Branch Plantation Sporting Club, proudly joining her two sons and their children. Gloria’s memory will forever be cherished by her friends and surviving family; her adoring husband of 47 years, Robert “Bob” Henry Cauthen, Jr.; sons Benjamin “Ben” Robert Cauthen (Crystal) of Clover, SC and Matthew “Matt” Scott Cauthen (Megan) of Charlotte, NC. Gloria was affectionately known as “G” to her beloved grandchildren, Finn Robert, Townes Albert and Sawyer Ann.
