On May 1, 2023, Thomas Willard Ray died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family at the age of 60. Tom was born on April 20, 1963, in Aurora, IL. He was born premature at just 6 months. Tom was later diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and amazingly defied the odds of his disability. His loving parents diligently helped care for him each day of his 60-year life. He attended Pioneer Center and earned his high school diploma in 1984. In school, Tom performed in school plays, played on the basketball team and swimming, and earned many awards. While he was aware he was challenged physically, he never let his disability stop him from being independent and accomplishing any goals. Tom loved to watch sports and was a great fan of the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordon. He was often found watching his favorite players of golf, baseball, football, and hockey on TV. Tom was fan of classic TV shows like MacGyver, Blue Bloods, and Magnum PI, and loved watching Survivor. He had uncanny ability to remember numbers like sports scores, grocery and gasoline prices, temperatures, time, and TV channel numbers. Tom was the baby of the family and was beloved by his big brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven M. Ray and father, Willard T. Ray. Tom is survived by his mother, Joanne M. Ray of Fairview, TX; siblings, Susie Prince of McKinney, TX, David Ray of Colleyville, TX, Richard Ray of Cleburne, TX, Sharon Rhoades of Libertyville, IL; nieces and nephews, Lisa Oltmanns, Kristen Morgan, Stephanie Muecke, Michael Ray, Peter Ray, Brian Rhoades, Colleen Rhoades and Jennifer Ray; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews. A viewing service will be held from 6 to 8 p. m. Friday, May 12, 2023 in the Sandburg Suite at Mount Olivet Funeral Home, 2301 N. Sylvania Ave. Fort Worth, TX 76111. Graveside burial ceremony at 10 a. m. Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in Tom's name.
