Age 89, of Jackson, passed away April 24, 2019 at the Henry Ford Allegiance Hospice Home. Tom was born in Kalamazoo on April 21, 1930, the second of 14 children born to Ross and Celesta Powell. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Eleanor in 2000; parents; brothers, Frederick, Daniel, Stanley and James; and a sister, Dolores. Thomas is survived by three children, Linda Wojtaszek, Frederick Powell and Kathleen Starks; 5 grandchildren, Kelly Wojtaszek, Michael Wojtaszek Jr., Michael Powell, Nicole Tosi and David Conard; 6 great-grandchildren, twins, Jacob and Kobe Tosi, Holly and Melanie Tosi, Rueban and Julianna Conard; 8 siblings, Richard, Donald, Roger, Philip, Ruth, Carol, Mary and Laurel; many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. In addition, he also leaves a special, caring and loving friend, Regina Kukielka of Pleasant Lake who opened up her heart and home to help care for Tom when he was placed in Hospice. Tom served 4 years in the U.S. Navy as an Airborne Navigational Equipment Repairman. He received his honorable discharge in July 1952. After his military service, Tom came to Jackson to attend Jackson Community College. Tom loved his music and dancing; he enjoyed playing his accordion and piano at both public and private celebrations and festivities. He had a rewarding career in the Hospital and Healthcare field, retiring as Personnel Director. A Memorial Mass will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 606 S. Wisner St, Jackson, MI 49203 on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 10:30 am with Father Tim MacDonald officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services. Military honors following the church memorial will be provided by the Jackson County American Legion Ritual Team. His ashes will join his wife's at St. John's Cemetery.
