Thomas H. Murphy Sr. , 89, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at his home. He was born in Egypt Valley on August 11, 1932 to the late Harper R. and Jessie Fern (Ward) Murphy. Tom was a 1950 graduate of Bethesda High School. Tom enlisted in the Army where he was stationed in Korea and he earned a purple heart and a bronze star serving his country. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Barnesville. Tom was a former member of the Barnesville Fire Department, the Seneca Sportsman's Club, and the Stumptown Thrashers. After many years working in the surface mine coal industry, Tom retired from Barnesville Schools as a mechanic in the bus garage and was formerly a custodian. He was always busy and made good use of his seasons, keeping up with plowing snow, woodworking, and mowing. His family was his pride and joy. In addition to his parents; Tom was preceded in death by an infant great-grandson, Eli Wells; infant sister, Carol; and sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Walls. Tom is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy Murphy; children, Thomas (JoAnn) Murphy Jr. , Mariann (Ed) Webster, Molly (Wesley) Wells; grandchildren, Kelly (Samantha) Murphy, Colin (Victoria) Murphy, Nathan (Sarah) Webster, Gregory Webster, Christopher (Brittney) Wells, and Joshua (Morganne) Wells; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Ruth Ann); step-sister, Ellen Frank; and several nieces and nephews. Private Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Tom's care has been entrusted to Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut Street Barnesville, Ohio. Burial will follow at Southern Cemetery in Barnesville, Ohio.
