location-icon

Monroe, NC

"Ralph Harris, son of the late William Harris and Lucy Bullock, was born on August 18, 1935, in Vance County, North Carolina. He departed his life on February 10, 2024, at Hospice of Union County Monroe, North Carolina. He graduated from Vance County Public Schools and then served in the US Army for a few years. Upon completion of his Army Service he migrated to Long Island, New York where he worked as a Construction Foreman for many years. Ralph left the Construction Industry and began working for the Brentwood Union Free School District as the Head Custodian. Later, he became the District Messenger until his retirement. God was always first in his life. He joined and became an active member of Durham A.M.E. Zion Church of Bay Shore, New York under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. John E. Durham. In later years, he changed his membership and joined First Baptist Church of Bay Shore, New York under the leadership of the late Pastor Albert Leroy Brown where he served on the Usher Board and Men’s Chorus. Ralph became a member of the Grand Lodge in New York. He loved his Brotherhood and remained a faithful member. Ralph moved back to North Carolina in 2011 to enjoy his later years. While in North Carolina he lived with his family in Indian Trail. In 2013, he moved to Elizabethan Gardens Assisted Living in Monroe, which he loved to call “The Gardens.” He was well loved and happy in his retirement home. In his earlier years, Ralph was quite the chef. He enjoyed cooking and grilling for his family. His favorite dishes to prepare were steak, ham, fried chicken and fish, mac \u0026amp; cheese, sweet potatoes, collards, and potato salad. He also loved to bake and eat a Duncan Hines box cake while always maintaining his slim built. Ralph was always very humble, peaceful, full of jokes and laughter. Often, he would crack himself up so much that he would tear up from laughing so hard. He warmed the hearts of many with his presence. During his leisure time, Ralph loved watching football, baseball, basketball, Family Feud, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. He enjoyed listening to Smokey Robinson and Old School Jams. On Saturdays between 2-3pm, you better not disturb him. The weekly Bingo game was being played and it was GAME ON. If you tried to interrupt the scheduled program, you would get your feelings all the way hurt.
