Thomas J. Kwolek, 68, of Brick passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Mr. Kwolek retired as a network signaling planner at AT&T in Morristown. He was a loving husband, devoted father and cherished GranDude. Born and raised in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn, NY, he lived in Middletown and Holmdel before moving to the Greenbriar II Community in Brick in 2012. An enthusiast for the outdoors, Tommy was an avid boater who enjoyed fishing and crabbing as well as summer camping trips with his sons, nephews, and brothers. His love for the water was extended through his enjoyment of long and relaxing cruise vacations, which he shared with his family. There was also plenty of indoor activity as he would help design, build, and operate model train layouts with his sons. Tommy is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Karen (Vitale) Kwolek; sons, Gregory T. Kwolek and his wife, Rebecca of Wyckoff and Thomas C. Kwolek and his wife, Michelle of Sayreville; brothers, Henry Kwolek and his wife, Linda of Fort Myers, FL and Edward Kwolek and his wife, Rosemarie of Nanuet, NY; sister, Wanda Carlson and her husband, Richard of Tucson, AZ; brother-in-law, Joseph Vitale and his wife, Linda of Vienna, VA; as well as his grandson, Caleb. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 10am-12pm at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 505 Burnt Tavern Road, Brick. A prayer service will be conducted at 11:30am in the funeral home. Cremation was private. Kathleen A. Cunnius, 63, of Brick, passed away on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. She was born in Orange, raised in North Edison before settling in Brick in 2005. She graduated from John P. Stevens HS, Edison in 1978. Kathy was employed at Waterford Crystal Company in Wall. She enjoyed Zumba, going to the beach, and traveling. Kathy was known for having a good time, she loved to celebrate with her friends and family. You always knew when Kathy was in a room by the sound of her laugh. She was a warmhearted person with a fun-loving disposition. For those who knew Kathy, she was feisty until the end. She is predeceased by her loving husband, John Cunnius and her parents Mary and Robert Sweeney. Kathleen is survived by her siblings, Eileen Sweeney of South River, and Daniel R. Sweeney and his wife, Rita of Red Bank; faithful feline companions, Clarence & Claus; her dear cousins, Kim Atno and her husband, Steve of Lavallette. She is also survived by nieces/nephews, Erin DiFilippi and Dan Braz, Dennis Hughes and Kim Hoffman, Megan and Ryan Albano, Craig and Meghan Sweeney, and Daniel Sweeney, Jr. and his fiancée, Nicolette Scarola. Barbara Ann Lane Scharmann, age 92, of Brick, NJ, died on December 3, 2023, at Ocean Medical Center after a brief illness. Born April 1, 1931, Barbara was a lifelong resident of Point Pleasant Beach until her later years. Barbara was a proud graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School, Class of 1948. Although awarded a full scholarship to Rider College, she began work @ Camp Evans in Wall Township, where she met the love of her life, Larry. Married in 1950, Barbara dedicated herself to raising her three children, which were some of the happiest times of her life. Summers were spent with children and friends at the beach and boardwalk. From 1967 to 1983, Barbara worked as PPB Administrator’s Secretary, then Deputy Borough Clerk, alongside her sister, Esther Wincklhofer. Upon Esther’s retirement in 1983, she took on the combined roles of Borough Clerk, Tax Collector, and Chief Financial Officer of PPB. Upon her retirement in 2002, Barbara was one of few to simultaneously hold NJ state certifications in all three areas. Her many contributions were honored when she was named as the ‘1996 Citizen of the Year’ by the local BPO Elks. Barbara’s volunteer efforts over the years included Honorary Life Member of the Municipal Clerk’s Association; President, Treasurer, & Secretary of the Point Pleasant Chapter of Deborah; Secretary of the Garnet Gulls Booster Association; Treasurer of the Women’s Club of Point Pleasant; PPB PTA; and a long-time Girl Scout Leader. Barbara was loving and caring to all. She was known for her laughter, compassion, and, most importantly, a sense of fair play. Ever embracing the child within, Barbara loved traveling, playing games (especially bridge), and singing songs with family. Barbara was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Lawrence E. Scharmann, her parents, Robert J. and Mary Hamill Lane, sister Esther Lane Wincklhofer, and brother Ralph H. Lane. Barbara is survived by her son, Robert L. Scharmann (Tonasket, Washington), son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence C. and Judy L. Scharmann (Lincoln, Nebraska), and daughter and son-in-law, Linda S. and Dwight A. DeButts (Point Pleasant, NJ). She is also survived by seven grandchildren, James Scharmann, Barbara DeButts, Jason Scharmann, Alex Scharmann, Pamela DeButts, Amy Scharmann, and Bobby Scharmann, and ten great grandchildren. Victoria Aufiero, 77, of Brick, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Vicky was born in Newark, NJ and resided in Belleville for many years before moving to her final residence in the Greenbriar I retirement community in Brick. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Kean College which led to her career as an English teacher at East Side High School in Paterson. She later became a guidance counselor at School #5 in Paterson after receiving her Master's Degree at Montclair State University. Victoria was very active in many organizations and clubs, including but not limited to: Friends of the Brick Library, Kiwanis, and the Algonquin Theatre. Victoria is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Aufiero; her sisters Florence Delmarmo, Nellie Mauriello, Angela DiBello, Louise Grena, and brother George Delmarmo. Surviving are her son, David Aufiero; and daughters Susan Aufiero-Peters and her husband Michael Peters and son RJ; Christine Flaherty and her husband Thomas Flaherty; and Jessica Jakubas and her husband Michael Jakubas. Victoria is also survived by her four beloved grandchildren Logan and Madison Flaherty, Ava Jakubas, and Sean Peters. In addition, she leaves behind her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her warm smile, infectious laugh, and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all. Visitation is Tuesday 3-8pm and Wednesday 9-10:30am. Robert M. O’Brien 75 of Brick, NJ died Sunday, November 26, 2023 at home. Born in New York, NY, Robert lived in Eatontown for 40 years before moving to Brick. He was awarded a MBA from Monmouth University and worked for Prudential Insurance retiring as an Executive. He drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. Robert was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Church, Long Branch and St. Martha’s Church, Pt. Pleasant. Robert loved to ski and spending time at his winter home in the Pocono Mountains after his retirement. He enjoyed music, going to concerts, playing guitar, Nascar and reading. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rita O’Brien. Surviving are his beloved wife of 46 years, Joanne O’Brien, 4 loving daughters, Kathleen White and her husband Chris, Mary Beth Brennan and her husband Dave, Erin McBride and her husband Mike, Shannon O’Brien and her fiancé Johan Kvist, 4 grandchildren, Gavin McBride, Adam Brennan, Lily McBride and Ryleigh McBride. Dolores P Larson, 89, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Ocean University Medical Center in Brick. Born in New York City, Dolores grew up in Manhattan. She attended St Monica's elementary school and St Lawrence Academy high school. She graduated to Briarcliff College and continued to Marymount College, Tarrytown. After college, Mrs. Larson worked for the VA Hospital in NYC. During the early 1960s, she worked at CBS Television Network with such luminaries as Norman Jewison, John Frankenheimer and Jackie Gleason. Dolores spent summers with her family in Spring Lake. She later met the love of her life, Charles, at the Monmouth Hotel. After they married, they lived many happy years on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and on Vroom Ave in Spring Lake. Dolores and Charles enjoyed traveling all over the world. They would celebrate their anniversary every year on the South of France. After her husband's passing, she continued the tradition to her favorite destination. She will be remembered for her vivacious energy and magnetic personality. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles A. Larson in 2001 and her adored brother, Eugene Martin. Surviving are her cherished son, Christopher Larson and his partner, Mary Kush. Friends may call from 5-7pm on Friday, November 24, 2023 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Highway 35, Wall, NJ. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 25, 9:00 AM at St Catharine's Church, 215 Essex Ave, Spring Lake.
