Thomas E. "Tommy" Heffers, 82, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away September 10, 2023 in his sleep at Highland Manor Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Anita Heffers, on June 7, 2019. Born on November 7, 1940 in Pittston, he was the son of John and Mary Heffers. Thomas was an avid baseball fan rooting for his New York Mets. He spent his free time when he was in good health coaching Little League Baseball in Forty-Fort. He loved his teams often giving all his players nicknames. Thomas also loved football and watching the New York Giants and Notre Dame Football. He also helped coach mini football with the Forty-Fort Flyers. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. He loved going to their events, often standing next to Anita watching Little League, softball, basketball, mini football, and soccer games. He would find time at family events to play catch, wiffle ball, or play war card games. As they got older, he would like to talk to them about what was going on in their lives. In recent years, Thomas was a member of the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick attending the annual dinner with his brother Joe and his family. One of his proudest moments was seeing his brother receive the Man of the Year award at the dinner. Thomas worked for many companies over his life retiring from Kraft. Thomas also served in the United States Army. Thomas is survived by his brother Joseph (Kate) Heffers, son Thomas (Julie) Heffers, daughters; Michele (Bob) Ryman, and Lynn Heffers. He has five grandchildren; TJ (Audrey), Eric, Dillan, Aly, and Josh. He also has a great grandchild; Anna, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brother, Maureen, Shelia, and John "Jackie". The family would like to thank Highland Manor and Compassionate Care Hospice staff for their care. Relatives and friends may call Thursday from 4-6 p. m. at E. Mr. Stephen Paul Wolensky, 67, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, December 1st in Connecticut. Born in Wilkes-Barre, on Thursday, August 9, 1956, Stephen was the son of the late Stephen Wolensky Jr. and the late Anne Wolensky. Steve served four years honorably in the United States Air Force, obtaining the rank of Sergeant and working as a Technical Control Specialist. He re-located to Connecticut, where he worked with pride as a Mechanical Engineer for Pratt & Whitney for 38 years. Steve thoroughly enjoyed and loved his job, designing and testing jet engines. He held two U. S. patents for airplane parts he invented. Steve had a brilliant mind and was an incredible artist and musician, playing his guitars with much pleasure. He also spent many hours of his life playing basketball, volleyball and ping pong with fun and competitive spirit. He was a kind, caring and genuine person, a gentle soul. Steve was a very trusted and very special son, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend. Steve is survived and will be greatly missed by his brother Rick (Cindy); sisters, Janie Kapinas (Tony), and Mary Ellen Walker (John); nieces, Kristie Kapinas of California. and Niki Eldridge (Alan) of Florida; nephews, Zack Walker (Ashley) of Florida and Tony Kapinas (Jess) of Bethlehem; great-nieces, Baily and Kalli; and great-nephews, Wesley, Anthony, Finley and Lachlan. Mr. Frank Harold Sereyka, 76, a resident of Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep in the Lord peacefully early Monday morning, in the comfort of his residence with his family at his bedside, following a lengthy illness. Born on Thursday, February 20, 1947 in Wilkes-Barre, he was one of two sons to the late Mr. Fritz and Mrs. Roseanne (Prestas) Sereyka. Educated in the city schools, he was a member of the 1965 graduating class of the former Grand Army of the Republic Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre. He previously was employed by the InterMetro Corporation of Wilkes-Barre in his youth. Prior to illness causing his retirement, Mr. Seryeka was self-employed as a skilled mechanic for many years. His love of mechanics and automotive repair carried over into his spare time. He loved fixing and rebuilding small engines; especially lawnmowers for family and friends. His favorite pastimes were spent with family; camping, filming various family gatherings over the years, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Proud of his Ukrainian heritage, Mr. Sereyka was a lifelong member of Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, North Wilkes-Barre and served as a board member for the Ukrainian Literary Association in Wilkes-Barre's Heights neighborhood for many years. Proudly, his son also serves as the association's president. He and his wife, the former Kathleen Galpin recently celebrated fifty-seven years of married life together on March 8 of this year. Besides his parents, Mr. Sereyka was preceded in death by his brother, Mr. Dale Sereyka. Left to cherish his memory, in addition to his beloved wife Kathleen at home, are the couple's children; Lisa Ann Sereyka of Columbus, Ohio; Frank Harold Sereyka Jr. of Harvey's Lake; twin sons, Jason Sereyka and his wife Amanda of Mount Pocono, and Wilkes-Barre patrolman Jeremy Sereyka and his daughter's mother, Laura Chocallo, of Wilkes-Barre; Grandchildren, including Rachael, Brett, Sommer, Bradley, Dylan, Emma and Sophia Marie Sereyka; Several nieces, nephews, fellow association members and dear friends. Funeral services for Mr. Sereyka will be conducted on Friday at 10:30 a. m. from the John V. Morris Family Funeral Home Inc. , 625 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, followed by the Office of Christian Burial with Divine Liturgy at 11:00 a. m. in Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 635 North River Street, Wilkes-Barre. The Reverend Myron Myronyuk, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist. Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery, Blanchard Street, Plains Township. Mrs. Dolores Ann (Sally) Norton, 82, a resident of the Georgetown section of Wilkes-Barre Township, formerly of New Jersey, passed peacefully into eternal life Saturday, the afternoon of November 25th, 2023 in the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township. Born on Tuesday, July 22, 1941 in Edison, New Jersey, she was one of two children to the late John and Rose (Pius) Sally, and was educated in the New Jersey schools. Following her marriage, the family relocated to the Wyoming Valley, settling in the Georgetown neighborhood of Wilkes-Barre Township. Previously in her youth, Mrs. Norton was employed by the Salvation Army of Wilkes-Barre for several years. More recently she is remembered as being a dedicated homemaker who lovingly cared for her family. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. John Sally; a Son, Ricky Norton; Daughter, Ann Norton and Granddaughter, Jennifer Impaglia. Left to keep special her memory are her son, Mr. Charles J. Mrs. Martha M. (Valko) Hergert, 98, formerly a resident of Madison Street in Wilkes-Barre's North End neighborhood, passed into Eternal Life Saturday afternoon while in the care of Riverstreet Manor, following an illness. Born on Monday, August 31, 1925 in Wilkes-Barre, she was the last of three children to the late John and Mary (Palencar) Valko. Educated in the city schools, Mrs. Hergert was a member of the 1944 graduating class of the former James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre. Raised in the Roman Catholic faith, she previously held membership in the former Parish of Saint Andre Bessette, North Wilkes-Barre. In her youth, Mrs. Hergert was employed by the former Fowler, Dick & Walker Boston Store in downtown Wilkes-Barre in both the cosmetics department and served as a window dresser. In her later years, she took pride in being a devoted homemaker, keeping her family the focal point of her life. She is remembered as being a loving wife, mother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Wilkes-Barre City police officer, Mr. Ernest Hergert on January 27, 1999; by a Son, Daniel Raymond Hergert; Sister, Mrs. Jean Gill; Brother, Mr. Raymond Valko, and most recently by her second son, Mr. John Hergert. Left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren Jennifer Wengzen, Wilkes-Barre and Jeffrey Hergert of AK; Great-grandson, Zachary Wengzen; Several nieces, nephews and dear friends including her caregiver, Mrs. Edna Maldonado of Ashley.
