Thomas E. "Tom" Gossage, 63, of Vermont, IL, passed away at 11:37 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023 at McDonough District Hospital ER. He was born on Wednesday, August 10, 1960 in Rushville, IL, the son of William and Madge (Vincent) Gossage. Tom is survived by 3 sons; Benjamin (and Weili) Gossage, of Macomb, IL, Joshua (and Amie) Gossage of Burlington, IA, and Matthew Gossage of Peoria, IL, 8 grandchildren, 1 sister; Loretta Surratt of Roseville, IL, and 3 brothers; William Gossage Jr. of Galesburg, IL, Jimmy (and Ann) Gossage of Galesburg, and Jack Gossage of Vermont. He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 granddaughter, and 2 brothers; Joseph and Daniel Gossage. Tom first worked as a farmhand in Littleton, IL. He then went on to be a over the road truck driver. He later worked at DOT Foods in Mt. Sterling, IL. He also worked at Timewell Tile in Timewell, IL. He was most recently was self-employed as an expert retailer of antiques through Ebay. He also owned his own farm. Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting and antique shopping. Services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. A visitation will take place from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, September 13 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Ridgeville Cemetery in Browning, IL. Memorials may be made to the Ridgeville Cemetery. So sorry. Know that Matthew a d you are in our thoughts and prayers. Cheryl Reimolds, 78, of Vermont, IL, passed away at 7:07 pm on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at Macomb Post Acute Care in Macomb, IL. She was born on July 9, 1945 in Pasadena, CA, the daughter of Walter and Betty (Crayden) Raudabaugh Sr. . Cheryl married Russell Reimolds on June 5, 1964 in Bardolph, IL. Russell preceded Cheryl in death on March 31, 2011. Also preceding her in death are her parents and one brother, Walter Raudabaugh, Jr. Cheryl is survived by her 2 sons, Russell Reimolds of Vermont, and Ronnie (and Kristi) Reimolds of Adair, IL, one daughter, Rheani (and Travis) Snowden of Vermont, four grandchildren, Taylor, Rylee, Chase and Carissa, two sisters, Michelle Reimolds of Lewistown, IL, and Kim (and Robert) Stickler of Bushnell, and one brother, Ronnie Raudabaugh of Vermont. Cheryl worked at nursing homes in both Astoria and Macomb. She retired from Spoon River College, where she worked in the business office and did several different things. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, watching Wheel of Fortune and going fishing. She made great spaghetti and always made sure there was more than enough for everyone. Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service in the Vermont Cemetery will be announced. Memorials may be made to the Cheryl Reimolds Memorial Fund. William "Bill" S. Ackley Jr. , 71, of Vermont, IL, passed away at 11:37 pm on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Graham Hospital in Canton, IL. He was born on April 29, 1952 in Alexandria, VA, the son of William S. and Pearl (Kalp) Ackley Sr. Bill married the love of his life, Sharon Mahan on May 16, 1971 in Vermont. The two were inseparable until Sharon preceded Bill in death on August 2, 2022. Also preceding him death are his parents, great-grandson, Brayden Baker, and 2 sisters, Margret Wright and Tina Bundy. Bill is survived by his daughter Lisa (and Darin) Kreps of Vermont, granddaughter, Chelsea (and Tyler Baker) Ackley of Vermont, great-grandson, Dawsyn Baker, twin brother, Jim (and Vicky) Ackley of Vermont, 3 sisters, Karen Cole of Las Vegas, NV, DeeAnn Fromm of Peoria, IL and Mary Watson of Bloominton, IL, and several nieces and nephews. Bill first worked as a farm hand for the Arnett's in Lewistown. He would go on to work at Dana Corp in Havana, IL as an iron pourer. When Dana Corp closed, Bill worked as a mechanic and detailed cars for Frye Auto Sales in Vermont. He later attained a CDL and became an over the road truck driver for Wabash Transportation. Bill loved music and gardening. He would put out a large garden every year and enjoyed spending a lot of time working in it. He enjoyed taking walks, visiting with people and going to fairs. He had a great interest in weather highs and lows, such as temperatures and rain and snow fall. He would keep record of this along with recording other things such as when local business would close and where they were located. Both Sharon and Bill adored their cat, Cuddles. Most of all though, Bill loved his family and he loved spending time with his great-grandson Dawsyn and granddaughter Chelsea. As his only granddaughter, Chelsea was Bill's pride and joy. She was "Pampa's girl". Services will be held on Monday, June 26th at 11:00 am at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, IL. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 25th from 5-7 pm at the funeral home. Memorials in Bill's memory may be made to the donor's choice. Kenneth G. "Red" Brobston , Sr. , of Vermont, IL, passed away at 11:15 pm on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at his home in Vermont, IL. He was born on June 30, 1942 in Mount Pleasant, IA, the son of Howard and Evon (Ferrel) Brobston. Red married Karen Wilson on October 23, 1976 in Vermont, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his children, April Fullenkamp of Burlington, Iowa, Allan (and Robin) Deen of Yarmouth, Iowa, Pam (and John) York of St. Paul, Iowa , Tanya (and William) Morgan of Vermont, Illinois and Kenneth (and Becky Fewkes ) Brobston, Jr. of Table Grove, Illinois, grandchildren, Jessica James, Robert (and Anny) Jackson, Alexandra (and Nathan) Beck, Shawn Foster, Misty Deen, Jonathon Deen, Nicole Suesens, Amanda Suesens, Lynsey Brobston, Laci (and Skylar Vedenhaupt) Jacobs, Corey (and Nadine) Jacobs, Seth (and Kaela Clark) Jacobs and Colleen Welch, 29 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Dennis (and Georgia) Brobston of Middleton, Iowa and David Brobston of Canton, Illinois. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Raymond "Tony" Brobston and Howard "Bud" Brobston and one sister Patricia Brobston. Red worked at Caterpillar in Mapleton for 30 years, retiring in 2006. His first job was at Owens Gas Station in Burlington, Iowa. He also did a lot of mechanical work and worked at the Vermont Foundry in Vermont, Illinois for some time. He was a member of the UAW Local #974 in East Peoria, Illinois and the Vermont Fire and Rescue Squad. Red's first car was a 1951 Ford convertible, purchased when he was 17 years old. He completely restored it and took it to many car shows. He also restored another 1951 Ford for his wife. He loved going to car shows and even raced cars in West Burlington, Iowa. He also remodeled his own home in Vermont He was family first, strong willed and "bull-headed", caring in his own way. Red also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling. Graveside services will be held in the Vermont Cemetery at 2:00 p. m. Sunday, March 5, 2023. Pastor Matthew Thiner will officiate. There will be no visitation. Patricia Nelson, age 94 of Vermont, Illinois, passed away at 6:45 pm Sunday, January 1, 2023 at the Macomb Post Acute Care Center. She was born on August 19, 1928 in Eldorado Township, McDonough County, Illinois, the daughter of Dwight and Mary (Short) Johnson. On January 5, 1947, Pat married John Wade Nelson in Macomb, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 29, 2010. She was also preceded in death by one son, Kent Nelson, her parents and one sister, Marva Wherley. Pat is survived by one son Edward Nelson of Glasford, Illinois, one daughter Maryann (and Bill) Swain of Reidsville, Georgia, four grandchildren; Joel Nelson, John Nelson, Matthew (and Katherine) Swain and Mindy (and Josh) Griffis, nine great-grandchildren; Cole Nelson, Clayton Nelson, Delaney Nelson, Micah Swain, Harvey Swain, Ruth Griffis, David Griffis, Nathan Griffis, and Abigail Griffis, one brother Larry (and Janet) Johnson of Pekin, Illinois and several nieces and nephews. Pat was a member of the PEO Sisterhood for over 50 years. She won many bake-off championships at the Illinois State Fair. She was the cook for the Alpha-Gamma-Sigma and Alpha-Gamma-Rho Fraternities at Western Illinois University. She enjoyed cooking for her family and the farm boys. Pat was the Eldorado Township Clerk for over 20 years and was a member of the Vermont Christian Church. She also was a 4-H leader for many years. Services will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 11:00 am at the Vermont Christian Church. Pastor Cody Stinnett will officiate. The PEO Sisterhood will hold a ceremony beginning at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place in the fellowship hall of the church beginning at 10:00 am. Inurnment will be held in the Vermont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Pat's name may be made to the Vermont Christian Church. Surviving are his parents Frank and Donna Tournear of Vermont, 3 sisters, Candace Tournear of Vermont, Shavell Tournear of Plymouth, IL, and Shannon Tournear of Browning, IL, brother Christopher (and Ashlynn) Tournear of Browning, grandparents, Jim and Marcia Elliott of Liberty, IL, 8 nieces and nephews, Hunter Williams, Levi Williams, Austin Peterman, Triston Moore, Jocelyn Moore, Hayden Pittman, William Tournear, and Gracelynn Tournear. Eric W. Littrell, 52, of Vermont, IL, passed away on November 25, 2022 in Mt. Vernon, IL. He was born on June 8, 1970 in Decatur, IL, the son of Pat Riley. Eric married his "Sweetie" Rhonda Riggins on June 6, 2015. She survives. Also surviving are his parents Bill and Pat Bender of Vermont, his 2 sons, Zachary and Aidan of Decatur, and his sister Stacie Walker, of Decatur. He was a proud uncle to 3 nieces and 8 nephews. He fully embraced his role as a member of the Riggins family. Eric was a great friend and treasured time spent with his special tribe of friends. He enjoyed fitness and health, and teaching Krav Maga and kettlebell to help others achieve their fitness goals. Eric served his Country in the Navy and loved to hear his grandfather talk about his own time in the service. He was a member of the Vermont American Legion He enjoyed his work as an employee of the Village of Vermont. Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Obituary Timothy J. Gilliland, 67, of Vermont, IL entered into the arms of Jesus on Friday afternoon, April 16, 2021, at the beautiful OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. Tim was born February 21, 1954, in Centerville, IA, to Paul & Bettine Gilliland, who preceded him to Heaven. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Terri Gilliland, and two children, Todd (Wendy) Gilliland of Macomb, IL, and Tiffany (Brian) Wade of Moweaqua, IL. Tim's six precious "door slammers," Emma (18), Annie (16), and Lucy (14), Gilliland and Charlie (15), Ilarose (13), and Toby (10) Wade, will greatly miss the best Papa in the world! Tim leaves behind a brother, Doug Gilliland, of Tyler, AL, and two sisters...Janice (Dave) McSpadden of Ottumwa, IA, and Vikki (Don) Hunt of Centerville IA, plus several nephews and nieces. Tim was a "Lover of People," and his greatest joy was sharing God's Word. He preached for 33 years with local ministries in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Illinois. Tim was loved by those he served in the 24 years he worked with TNT Communications (US Cellular) in Rushville, IL.
