Santa Ada Morales, 90, of Hazlet, New Jersey, entered the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, at Complete Care Bayshore in Holmdel, New Jersey. Santa was born on June 1, 1933, to parents Juan and Felicia (Justiniano) Evangelista Salazar, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, where she grew up and spent her early years. She moved to the continental United States in the mid 1950's where she lived in Manhattan, New York. In the early 1960's; she moved to Jersey City, where she met and married her husband Heriberto Morales, eventually settling in the Bayshore Area. She and her husband Heriberto Morales married in July of 1978, and made their home together in Keansburg for 42 wonderful years. Santa will be remembered as a wonderful and caring woman who especially loved her family unconditionally. She loved flowers and landscaping, enjoyed fashion and of course going to church and being one with the Lord. Santa was also an amazing cook and loved playing Bingo and collecting rare dolls. She will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Santa is predeceased by her parents Juan and Felicia Evangelista Salazar, her husband Heriberto Morales, her sister's Julia Olivera, Eufemia Soto and Augusto Salazar and her nephew Arnoldo Valentin Sr. , Lino Olmeda and his wife Lillian, and her great nephew Eric Olmeda. She is survived by her great nephew Arnold Valentin Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, their children Alexandria Sanchez and her husband Felix, Francesca Wagner and her husband Joshua, Antoinette Falotico and her husband Anthony, and Ivelise Rodriguez, their grandchildren Sophia, Nick, John, and Kaleb, her niece Divina Valentin, her great nephew John Valentin and his wife Marie and their two children Kendall and Justin. Her nephew Ramon Olivera and his wife Donna and their two children Raymond and Donita. Henry "Harry" Penley, 80, of Laurence Harbor, New Jersey passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, November 27, 2023. Harry was born on August 13, 1943, in South Amboy, New Jersey. He was a proud lifelong resident of Laurence Harbor, New Jersey. He met and later married the love of his life, Patricia Weeks on February 10, 1964. Harry was a dedicated communicant of Laurence Harbor Community Covenant Church, Laurence Harbor, New Jersey. He retired after a long career working as the Superintendent of Old Bridge Municipal Utilities Authority, Sewer Division. Harry was past president of the Central Jersey Water Environment Association and the New Jersey Water Environment Association. He also enjoyed being highly involved in many different committees of the New Jersey Water Environment Association. Harry and his wife traveled in their beloved RV, visiting all the United States over time. They also enjoyed having their children and grandchildren travel with them for as long as possible. Harry was also an avid auto mechanic, in his younger days, he spent time taking cars apart and putting them back together. Most of all he was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed, never forgotten, and always loved. Harry was predeceased by his beloved parents, Raymond, and Mary "Mae" (Royal) Penley, a cherished son, Jospeh Penley and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Penley. Deborah "Debbie" Errico Ross, 67, passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2023, at Bayshore Medical Center. Debbie was born in Jersey City on October 16, 1956, to parents Pauline (Gosselin) and Joseph Farrington, before relocating to the Bayshore area in her later years. She spent many years working as a dispatch operator for a limousine company before retirement. Debbie was known as a more reserved woman, and typically kept amongst herself. She was always very caring to the ones around her, and thoroughly enjoyed the "caretaker" role. She liked to play Texas Hold'em and Pokeno, and gave her family members a little scare from watching horror films and movies with them. Debbie also was an avid dog lover, rescuing more than 15 dogs throughout the years. Most importantly, she was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. Debbie is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Pauline, her husband Kevin Ross, and her daughter Lisa Marie Errico. Sixto Gonzalez Gomez was born March 20, 1937 in Rio Pierdas, Puerto Rico. He was raised in Caugas, and was the youngest of his three siblings. He was predeceased by his parents Sixto and Alejandrina (Gomez Pena) Gonzalez, his beloved wife Paula Gonzalez and his dear siblings, Luis Angel Gonzalez, and Hector Gonzalez. Sixto is survived by his loving children, Cynthia, William, David, Christina, and his dear sister Irma Torres. As the years continued Sixto's family grew gaining daughters, and son-in-laws Idelfonso, Yvonne, Mayda, and DeVonn. As a teenager, Sixto and his siblings left Puerto Rico, and arrived in New York City in the 1950's. He settled in the Bronx where he naturally fell in love with the Yankees. and for a short while played in the softball Minor Leagues. As a shortstop, and third baseman. At the age of 20, Sixto met the love of his life, Paula, whom he joined in marriage on December 22, 1957. He worked as a line mechanic in Milton Can for many years, till the day he retired. Sixto will be remembered as a hardworking, and loving husband, father, son, and brother. Sixto embraced his family, and made many memories including his beloved grandchildren Jennifer, Naomi, Idelfonso Jr, Matthew, David, Stephanie, Andrea, Melanie, DeVonn Jr, and Milana. Sixto influenced many by his caring nature, and his full of life attitude which will remain in the lives of many family and friends. He passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on November 15, 2023. | | Norman Albert Whiteman, Jr. , age 62 of Moneta, VA, formerly of Hazlet, NJ, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Sr. and Carol Whiteman; father-in-law, Richard Morey; mother-in-law, Joyce Morey; and "Dog", Sugar. Surviving are his beloved wife and best friend of 44 years, Laura "Morey" Whiteman; his beloved children, Melissa, Jessica (Will) and Christopher (Tom) and grandchildren, Jayce and Finnan; brother, Jimmy (Mary) Whiteman; two brothers and one sister; sister-in-law, Tricia (Rich) Huegel and Robyn (Bret) Dzibela; and many nieces and nephews. Norman was retired from DHL with over 29 years of service and worked in addition to the Asbury Park Press for 15 years. He was a volunteer firefighter serving at the West Keansburg Fire Company in West Keansburg, NJ and was also a member of union Local 295. He attended the La Guardia Academy of Aeronautics in Queens, NY as he had a love for airplanes. Norman was an LOYAL Jets and Mets fan. He loved vacationing in Aruba and fishing and was able to take the fishing trip of a lifetime to Panama with his Uncle Billy and Richie. Norman was a very self-less, hardworking "Papa" as he worked two jobs so his wife, Laura could stay at home and raise their children. Family was always his #1 priority. Edward "Eddie" Hopkins, 82, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. Eddie was born on November 7, 1941 in Manhattan, New York. It was in New York, where he met and went on to marry the love of his life, Eileen Kilkenny on April 18, 1964. They began their married life together by moving to Union Beach, NJ and in 1972 they moved to Hazlet, NJ where they remained and raised their family. Eddie retired after many dedicated years as a warehouseman for Supermarket General in Camp Kilma, Edison, NJ. Eddie was a longtime parishoner of the Holy Family Parish, Union Beach, NJ where he helped with varioius charitable organizations within St Vincent de Paul Society. In the year 1982, because of his great works, Eddie was awarded the Monmouth County Federation of the Holy Name Societies Man of the Year as well as Holy Family Parish Holy Name Society Man of the Year. Eddie enjoyed being around people and planning events. Throughout the years, he coordinated numerous events at Monmouth Park Racetrack, Oceanport, NJ. He also assisted with many New Year's Eve parties at Holy Family School, as well as Super Bowl parties for the Holy Name Society in the Holy Family Parish basement. Above all else, he was dedicated to his family. He will be greatly missed, never forgotten, and always loved. Eddie is predeceased by several beloved people, his parents, Matthew, and Mary (Cook) Hopkins, his sisters, Annamae and Joan Hopkins Moskowitz, his brother, Matthew Hopkins, and most recently his grandson, Ritchie Engstrom and his son-in-law, Miguel Hernandez. Phyllis M. Illions, 71, of Hazlet, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family Monday, November 13, 2023. She was born Phyllis M. LaMonica on August 2, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up and met her beloved husband, Edward. On December 4, 1977, Phyllis and Edward were married and began their life and family together in Brooklyn. In 1985, they settled in Hazlet, New Jersey, where they remained to raise their family. While living in Brooklyn, Phyllis began her teaching career and her passion for her students blossomed. Once she relocated to Hazlet, she also taught in the Keansburg school system and retired as a School Counselor for Sayreville School District after 24 years of dedicated service. Phyllis made a lasting difference in the lives of countless students over the years. Even outside of her teaching career, Phyllis always loved helping others. She had a tremendous amount of strength and determination, and her kindness always shone through everything she did. Phyllis lived her life with a grateful heart. Above all else, Phyllis adored her family. Her two grandchildren, Gila and Michael, were the light of her life and helped keep her going while she was battling illness over the last few years. Phyllis will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. She was predeceased by her parents, Dominick and Violet (Pulice) LaMonica. Phyllis is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 45 years, Edward H. Anthony "Tony" Medoro (59) unfortunately passed on Friday November 10, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer. He died at home surrounded by his devoted family. Tony is survived by his loving wife, Laurie Bergen Medoro, and sons Casimo (26) and Anthony Jr. (25). Tony was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Infantry, as was his brother Sergeant Major Mario Cianchetta, and son Corporal Anthony Medoro Jr. Tony is also survived by siblings Nicola Cianchetta and his wife Lina; Antoinette Burgarella and husband Mariano; Malfalda Tucci and husband Gerry; Antonio Cianchetta; Raffaela Medoro Santiago and husband Jimmy; brother-in-law Robert J. Bergen and his wife Kelly; and a number of adoring nephews and nieces. Tony is predeceased by his parents, Casimo and Yolonda Avicolli Medora, and older sister, Rita Brynkiewicz. Anthony built a distinguished thirty-year career as a well-known custom home builder and contractor. More recently, looking to spend more time with his family, Tony worked as a commercial property manager overseeing several local industrial warehouse facilities. He also earned an associate's degree from Brookdale Community College and a blue seal license in boiler operation. Tony was a dedicated member of Hazlet Bible Church for over 30 years. He continuously served in various ministries, between keeping the building maintenance up to date and regulating church workdays, to organizing coffee for members and visitors on Sunday services. His love for the church was endless. Tony will be dearly missed by all those whose lives he has touched with his heartfelt love, amazing kindness and his selfless generosity and giving of his whole body, mind and spirit in his desire and efforts to always help and serve others. And, while we will all miss him terribly, his gentle kindness and abundant love will remain in our hearts forever. Elaine Nichols, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on November 5th, 2023, at her home. Elaine was born on April 30, 1945, to parents Vincent and Mildred (Janssen) Oriolo in Union City, New Jersey, where she grew up. Upon marrying the love of her life, Robert C. Nichols III, in 1967, they began their life together in Jersey City before moving to North Arlington in 1993 where they would remain through their retirement together. Elaine was a woman of many talents, known by her family as a "Jack of all Trades. " She enjoyed gardening in her younger years, and was an advocate for all animals, not only having her own pets, but also donating to local shelters. Her support also included donations to St. Jude Children's Hospital. She liked watching shows like NCIS, Hawaii 5-0, and Chicago Fire, and absolutely loved anything involving Elvis. Elaine was also very proud of her bright blue Chrysler 300. Most importantly, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend, and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. John met and later married the love of his life, Sophia Calvano on September 14, 1974. They began their married life in Jersey City, New Jersey. In 1990 along with their children, they moved to Hazlet, New Jersey, where they remained. John was a communicant of Saint Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, New Jersey. While living in Jersey City John owned and operated Central Ave. Exxon Gas Station and Towing. Later he worked at Calpine in Parlin, New Jersey, as a Gold Seal Boiler Engineer. John loved working on cars and was an avid bowler but above all he loved spending time with family. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
