Dr. Thomas Edward Nix, MD, passed away peacefully at the age of 72, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband to Betty, a cherished father to his children, and a beloved grandfather to his grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty Black Nix; and their children, Edward Cassidy Nix, Kristy Nix Young (Thomas), and Katherine Nix Hinshelwood (Jonathan); his sibling, John Kenneth Nix (Cathy); and Ed and Betty’s six grandchildren, Thomas Rudolph Young V, John Wallace Young, Mattie Mae Young, Sarah Elizabeth Hinshelwood, Morris Alexander Hinshelwood, and Charles Thomas Hinshelwood, and many nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded by his father John Luther Nix, mother Sarah Highsmith Nix, and sister Latrelle Nix Edwards. Ed graduated from White County High School in Cleveland, GA and The University of Georgia. He earned his medical degree at The Medical College of Georgia and completed his Otolaryngology residency at Emory University. Ed was a respected physician, known for his dedication to his patients and his unwavering commitment to excellence in his field. Outside of his medical practice, he was a man of many passions. He was an avid golfer, finding joy and relaxation on the green. He had a deep love for the sea and spent many happy hours sailing boats, embracing the beauty and serenity of the open water. Ed was also a skilled pilot, taking to the skies with a sense of adventure and freedom. His family, friends, and colleagues will always remember Ed as a kind-hearted and generous man, who lived life to the fullest and touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A private graveside for Ed will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. Memorial donations may be made in honor of Ed to the Community Foundation of Greenville 630 E. Washington St, Greenville, SC 29601.

Herbert Earl Brown, 87, resident of Cedar Springs Road, husband of Jeanette Lee Brown, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.Born February 9, 1937, in McCormick, he was a son of the late James Herbert Brown and Agnes Gilmer Drennan. Mr. Brown attended McCormick County Schools and retired from the United States Air Force with rank of Sargent after twenty years. After his military service, he was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.He was a member of Troy Baptist Church.Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are one son, Michael Brown of Greenwood; one daughter, Kelly Hawthorne of Piedmont; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a daughter, Kristi Fergerson; a granddaughter, Melissa Brown; step-son, Eddie Strother; two brothers, Perry Brown and Bobby Brown; and one sister, Dot Trantham.Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Tuesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earle Readlett officiating.

William E. Lollis, age 80 of Greenville SC passed away on Wednesday morning February 21st after a struggle with cancer. Born in Fountain Inn SC to parents Alton and Elsie Lollis, he is survived by his wife Mary Lollis, one stepson and two stepdaughters, Gary Turner, Sharyn Broome and Janice Bundy. He is also survived by three brothers, and four sisters. Nancy King, Pauline Craig, Joyce Bridges, Alton M Lollis, Ricky Lollis, Dan Lollis, Rebecca Ayers and predeceased by two sisters, Ernestine Woods and Alice Bouchillon. William enjoyed a long career in Trucking. His hobbies included small engine repair, cutting firewood for friends and neighbors and DIY projects. Services will be held at Mackey Funerals and Cremations at Woodlawn. Date and time to be announced.

Louie Paul Chambers, 87, husband of Mary Elaine Barbrey Chambers for 43 years, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Mr. Chambers was born in Greenville to the late Bart Paul Chambers and Juanita Olivia Poole Chambers. He was a member of Fountain Inn First Baptist Church. Louie was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was a graduate of Greenville Technical College and the SC Criminal Justice Academy. Louie retired from the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office after 32 years of law enforcement duty and then served as a SC State Constable for many years. He served as a Fountain Inn City Councilman for 12 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the US Air Force Association. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Paul Chambers with wife Nancy, and Matt Stone with wife Lisa; two daughters, Nita Lyda with husband Jeff, and Christie Jessee; a brother, Herman Chambers with wife Carolyn; eight grandchildren, Cory Lyda, Caitlin Hiott, Robert Chambers, Jacob Chambers, Emilyn Chambers, Kenley Chambers, Arvin Jessee II and Alexander Jessee; and four great-grandchildren, Jones, Dax, Anna and Michael. He was predeceased by a son, Mark Chambers; a son-in-law, Arvin Jessee; a brother, Harold Chambers; and two sisters, Evelyn Snyder and Maunee Reeves. A Celebration of Louie’s Life, with Police Honors, will be 2 o’clock Monday at Fountain Inn First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial, with Military Honors, will be at a later date in Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery. Denise K. Benner, 58, of Greenville, SC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 19, 2024. She was the beloved wife of Jay Benner, daughter of Pamela Shield Moran and the late Thomas Albert Moran. Denise's life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and boundless energy. She approached each day with a zest for life that was truly infectious. Her passions were diverse and reflected her vibrant spirit – from nurturing her garden to indulging in the beauty of flowers, from the joy of singing and dancing to the comfort found in the pages of a good book. She found solace in the simplicity of nature and the thrill of riding motorcycles. Her love for music and Western TV shows was matched only by her love for her family, friends, and animals. Denise had a heart that overflowed with compassion and empathy, and she touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her beauty, both inside and out, was surpassed only by her infectious laughter and unwavering tenacity. She was loved beyond measure and loved others deeply. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her sons, Skyler (Sandra) Leon, Chase (Megan) Rumens, grandchildren Skyler Jr. Leon and Kaia Leon, as well as her special friends Lorie, Jacque, and Kat. A memorial service to celebrate Denise's remarkable life will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Palmetto Mortuary, located at 1017 Mauldin Road, Greenville, SC. Visitation hours will be from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM on the same day. In honor of Denise's deep love for animals, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a wildlife charity of your choice in lieu of flowers. Denise's legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace, knowing she was loved beyond measure and left an indelible mark on the world.
