Theodore Hittner Obituary

Theodore W. Hittner, age 82 of Polk Twp. , Kunkletown passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023 at his home. Theodore was the husband of Chong Hui (Yon) Hittner who passed away December 28, 2021. He was born in Lehighton on October 6, 1940, son of the late William F. and Amelia (Strohl) Hittner. He served our country with dedication and courage while on active duty in the United States Army for 21 years, including 36 months in Vietnam. After his retirement from the Army, he worked at the Tobyhanna Army Depot in Tobyhanna, PA for over 29 years until retiring. He was a member of the Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Trachsville. Theodore was a member of the Polk Township Historical Society in Kresgeville, the Pocono Old-Tyme Farm Equipment Association, the Indian Mt. Rod and Gun Club, the VFW Post 7134 in Palmerton, the Vietnam Veterans Organization of Carbon County, and the American Legion. He also loved hunting and spending time with his grandson. We have been blessed with the presence of Theodore in our lives. He will be deeply missed by his sons: Theodoric K. Hittner of Kunkletown and William L. Hittner of Fleetwood. He was the loving grandfather to William L. Hittner who lovingly called him grand pappy. Theodore is also survived by five sisters: Althea Handwerk & husband Harvey of Walnutport, Sharlee Ahner of Kunkletown, Roberta Heffley and husband Larry of Lehighton, Eleanor Long and Martha Serfass both of Kunkletown and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 am, Friday, May 12, 2023 at Gower Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. , Route 209, Gilbert, PA with Rev. Ken Melber officiating. Family and friends are welcome to offer condolences on Thursday, May 11, 2023 from 6 pm to 8 pm and Friday, May 12, 2023 from 10 am until time of the service at the funeral home. Theodore will be laid to rest in the family plot at Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery in Palmerton.
