Terri J. Koziczkowski, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully, at the age of 63, with her family by her side, on October 5, 2023, after a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer. Terri was born June 8, 1960 in Plover, WI; daughter of Robert and Mary (Shewczyk) Puariea. A life-long resident of the area, she attended local schools and graduated in 1978 from Stevens Point Area Senior High. Following high school, Terri entered the workforce and dedicated over 40 years at St. Michael's Hospital in various positions. In that time, her determination led her to take night classes in order to strengthen her work skills and it paid off as she ultimately achieved a personal goal to work within the business department as a Patient Account Representative. While Terri was proud of her career achievements, she was most proud of her family. On September 6, 1980, she married her high school sweetheart, Myron Koziczkowski. The two welcomed two beautiful children together, Adam and Kelly, and spent 43 years together as husband and wife. Terri was a devoted wife and mother who worked hard to give her family a life full of happy memories. She proudly worked part-time jobs at Figi's and Lands End in order to provide the most memorable Christmases she could for her children. Terri lived her life to the fullest and had many hobbies including any kind of crafting; making cups, shirts, koozies, painting pottery, and scrapbooking. She was also an avid sports fan; she loved the Green Bay Packers and enthusiastically got out of her seat to cheer for them from home. She enjoyed being active, especially walking, and even participated in the Walk Wisconsin 26-mile marathon several times. Above all else, Terri was incredibly fun to be around and displayed her fun-loving attitude by planning all the adventures for her family and friends. She planned countless family vacations and outings and was even known as the matriarch of the Clear Lake Family. A title earned from planning camping trips to Clear Lake for over 40 years. In fact, she loved camping so much that she started her own "Discover Wisconsin" where she planned camping trips for her family every summer; always to somewhere they'd never been! Terri wanted to squeeze every ounce of fun out of every experience. She never wanted to miss out or leave early. The endless memories that were made with family and friends are all thanks to her passion for adventure, planning, and bringing people together. Terri, the glue to her family, will always be remembered for her kindness and compassion. She cared deeply for her loved ones, to the extent that she would not start her car until everyone was seat belted. During deer hunting season, she would happily get up at 4:30 a. m. to make lunches for her family. While she dedicated herself to helping her family, she also worked hard to help others. She spent time volunteering at Saint Stanislaus's church Bingo and put many hours into volunteering for the Christian Workplace Committee. One of her greatest achievements was taking on the lead role for the St. Michael's Hospital Basket Raffle; a fundraising event that she helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for. Terri is lovingly survived by her husband, Myron; her children, Adam (Kristin) and Kelly (Jon Wroblewski); her grandchildren, Hailey, Kylie, and Nathan; and her step-grandson, Jake. She is further survived by her brother, Ron Puariea; her sister, Sharon Rapp; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave (Marcie) Koziczkowski, Ron (Sandy) Koziczkowski, Marie Kluck, Jan (Randy) Kruzicki, Debbie (Arnie) Kaminski, and Lori Stoltz; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. Terri was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Henry and Sophie Koziczkowski; brothers-in-law, Jack Rapp, Bob Kluck, and Gary Stoltz; sister-in-law, Bernie Puariea; and two nephews, Jeff Koziczkowski and Kyle Stoltz. Terri's family would like to extend a special Thank You to all the friends, family, and caregivers who provided unconditional love and immeasurable support to Terri and her family through the tumultuous journey with cancer. Your thoughtfulness will never be forgotten. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Holy Spirit Parish - 2151 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Rev. Steve Brice will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 4:00 PM until the Rosary Prayer at 8:00 PM at Shuda Funeral Home - 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point - and again Thursday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Lorraine B. Trierweiler, age 100, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Wells Nature View Assisted Living. Private family services will be held. Lorraine was born on March 5, 1923, in Stevens Point, to Harold and Verona Buza and was a graduate of Stevens Point High School. She was united in marriage to Edward W. Trierweiler on March 15, 1941, in Dubuque, IA. He died on August 13, 2000. Lorraine had a very active life. Even at the age of 90 she was always on the go. In her younger years when her husband was establishing Trierweiler Construction, she was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Factory in Marshfield from 1941 until 1959. She then was a homemaker and raised her daughter. She and Ed built three lake homes in Minocqua where they enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, and fishing. Lorraine enjoyed her yard and landscaping and kept a meticulous lawn. She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Sean) Davis-Yaun of Marshfield and two grandchildren, Katie (Jim) Sauter of Tomah and Kyle (Tania) Davis of Marshfield. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren, Desirae Weisenberger, Autumn Davis, Addyson Sauter, Kainan Davis, Avery Sauter, A. J. Sauter. Layne Sauter, and Isla Sauter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her first son-in-law, DuWayne Davis, a brother, Chet Buza, and sisters, Pearl Szymanski and Harriet Adams. Champ W. Ruffner, age 85, of Stevens Point, WI passed away on December 3, 2023 at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital. Champ was born on August 26, 1938 in Superior, WI. Parents Harry and Thelma Ruffner. He attended schools in Illinois and Wisconsin as well as Mary D. Bradford in Kenosha, WI. He was in the Navy from 1956-1959. He married Donna J. Albert in 1959. They lived in Kenosha, Stevens Point, and retired to Boulder Junction in 2001. He worked for Wisconsin Bell, AT&T, and Wausau Finance until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Donna J. Ruffner; 3 sons, Donald of Boulder Junction; John (Ann) of Stevens Point; and Daniel of Burlington. He is further survived by 4 grandchildren, Carrie, Eric, Caleb and Cooper; and 2 great-grandchildren, Alaina and Wyatt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Thelma Ruffner; and 2 sisters, Joy and Betty. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10:00am until 12 Noon at Boston Funeral Home.Show more

David Hanna

David G. Hanna passed away peacefully Friday, November 24,2023 at his home, Northcrest Assisted Living Facility, Stevens Point where he had resided the past four years. Mr. Hanna was born in 1946 and lived in Rosholt WI until relocating to Stevens Point in 2000. Following the completion of his early education, he worked briefly as a Library Aide for the Rosholt School System. He then used the transportation services of Community Industries and worked as a Laundry Aide at the Portage County Health Care Center. After several years there, he worked for many years as a Dishwasher at The Restaurant at Sentry. Tiring of kitchen work, Mr. Hanna worked as a Clerk's Aide, then as a Utility Worker for Shoneys until he retired. In addition to his employment, Mr. Hanna continued his education at MSTC where he eventually received the Mae Francis White Lifelong Learning Award. With the partnership of his friend, Jed Buza, Mr. Hanna received a state award for work advocating for themselves and others with disabilities. The partners received the Jim Wolfe Memorial Award from The Arc-WI Disability Association. He also volunteered with area not-for-profits. He loved belonging to his congregation in Rosholt and then the Beloved Community in Stevens Point. Mr. Hanna is preceded in death by his parents, Belva and Frank Hanna and his brother, James Hanna. Mr. Hanna was a friend of many. And he enjoyed the care of the Northcrest staff who cared for him as family. In the final years of life his friends, Nancy Hornick, Mary Meyer, and Joan Honl remained faithful. The Graveside Service for David will be held at The Northland Lutheran Cemtery in Iola on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 1:00 PM.Show more

Janiece Fischer

Age - 93

Janiece Maxine Colvin was born August 4, 1930 to Alverda and Emmett Colvin and died peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loving family on November 13, 2023. There was a lot of living in between. Janiece grew up during the depression. Her father was a dairy farmer and mother was a teacher. Their family had very little financially, but were rich with love. Janiece began her education in a one room country school and graduated from Stratford High School. In 1948 she started at the Stevens Point Teachers College where she met Donald Hendrick and began a 40-year relationship. After Don finished college, he took a job in Grand Marais, Michigan. Don and Janiece were married June 14, 1952 at the Catholic church in Grand Marais and she became Janiece Hendrick. On July 14, 1953 they had their first child, John. After three years in Grand Marais, Don got a job at the junior high school in Tomahawk, Wisconsin. In between having 3 more children (Kevin, Mary and Ann), Janiece taught at the Bradley, Hiawatha, and Whittier schools until 1960. In 1964, they had a fifth child, Lois. Janiece continued to teach elementary school in Tomahawk. The family traveled many places in the United States, often for Don's educational pursuits. This likely sparked Janiece's keen interest in continued travels throughout her long life. Winters were spent in Tomahawk snowmobiling and summers at their land on Somo Lake. When Don Hendrick died unexpectedly in 1986 at the age of 58, it was a terrible shock. With the support of her friends, family and church, Janiece carried on. Janiece lived her life to the fullest in the years that followed. She completed her master's degree in education, and continued teaching until 1991, when she retired after 35 years in the classroom. She was very active in the Methodist church in Tomahawk, and lived a life rich in service. She became active in many educational organizations, serving on boards and committees for Central Wisconsin Educators, CESA and WEAC. She was heavily involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president of the local unit, district 11 and then at the state level. In 1994, Janiece found companionship with Bill Fischer. They married and she became Janiece Fischer. They spent 23 happy years together and traveled extensively to Russia, Africa, Alaska, and all over the United States. After Bill died in 2017, Janiece persevered and continued living independently for years. At the venerable age of 93, her physical body wore out, but her indominable spirit lives on in heaven with her parents, twin sisters, two beloved husbands, a grandson and friends that have passed before her. Janiece is survived by her 5 children - John (Sara) Hendrick, Kevin (Jill) Hendrick, Mary Hendrick, Ann Hendrick and Lois (Tim) Harrison. She is further survived by her grandchildren Megan, Rowan, Allie, Winona, Donovan, Rachel, Jim, Isaiah, Travis, Kaden and Devin, and great grandchildren Hannah, Hazel and Willow. Janiece Maxine Colvin Hendrick Fischer had a profound impact on thousands of people and will be remembered fondly as a caring teacher, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and steadfast friend. She was generous, loving, supportive, funny, stubborn, an advocate for those who needed it, well dressed, and patriotic to her core. We are all blessed to have known her. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at The Willows in Iola, WI who provided Janiece with a happy and caring living environment in her final years, and the Compassus hospice team who helped her live in dignity and comfort to the end. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 9 at the Boston Funeral Home 1649 Briggs Street, Stevens Point. Visitation will be from 10 - 11 AM and the service starts at 11 AM. Bernard Rooney

Beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Bernard J. Rooney died at home on November 17, 2023, after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. His Irish smile and wonderful zest for life endeared him to everyone who had the good fortune to know him. He is survived by his wife, Vera, his two children, Christopher Rooney (Laura) and Megan Good (George), and four amazing grandchildren: Desmond and Avery Rooney and Declan and Vivian Good. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Rooney, and brother, Patrick Denis Rooney (Patricia). One brother, Father Ted Rooney, preceded him in death. Barney was born to James and Mary Rooney in Brooklyn, New York on May 1, 1940. He married Vera Fox in 1970 and they raised their family in New York. Barney practiced law in New York City for 25 years. His office was on the 66th floor of the World Trade Center and he survived both the first bombing and the attacks on 9/11. After Barney retired in 2002, he followed his lifelong love of learning. He studied mythology and wrote a book entitled "Mytheology in our 21st Century. Evelyn Rose Schmidt, age 88, of Stevens Point, WI died peacefully on November 12, 2023. Evelyn was born on October 22, 1935, to the late Henry and Evelyn (Schlinchting) Busse in the state of Minnesota. They relocated to Wisconsin, where she grew up and attended the local schools in Amherst and Stevens Point. She married Clifford Rajski on July 2, 1955, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on January 30th 1973. Evelyn later married Edward Schmidt on June 29, 1973, in Menominee, Michigan; Edward preceded her in death on September 5, 2006. Evelyn will be remembered for her caring persona, her nurturing the talents of others, and her love of family. She relished weekly outings to the library with her kids and grandchildren, encouraging them to read and write, and sharing in numerous outdoor adventures. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, and camping. Evelyn appreciated world history and delighted in being a part of renaissance reenactments. She was an excellent cook, and her baking was second to none (especially for Christmas). She was active with the Society of Creative Anachronism and was a Den Mother for the local Cub Scouts. Survivors include her sister, Jo Ann Splawn; children, Robert (Jean) Rajski, Richard Rajski, Diane (Kevin) Grezenski, Kris Schmidt, and Erik Schmidt; stepchildren, Debbie Peters, Donna (Bernard ) Havlovick, Diane Kroll, and Nicki Deppe; grandchildren, Gwen, Cliff, Shelly, Melanie, Holly, Nate, Gerrianne, Justin, and Kendra; great grandchildren, Taylor, Austin, Zariah, Forrest, Jasmine, Abby, Aiden, Koda, JR, Lyla, Harvey, Aurora, Rylie, and Jace; great great grandchildren, Sophia, Mason, Jackson, and Natalia. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, step-great great grandchildren, extended family, and all of the kids she took in and cared for over the years. She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Busse and Evelyn Hancock; sister, Neta Kay VanBuran; brother, Henry Busse; husbands, Clifford Rajski and Edward Schmidt; and children James Rajski and Donald Rajski. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a. m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Boston Funeral Home. Visitation will precede from 10 a. m. until the time of services. Gary Lepak

Gary D. Lepak, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, of Plover, peacefully departed on November 17, 2023, surrounded by his family at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, at the age of 73. Gary was born on January 8, 1950 in Stevens Point, WI; son of Edwin and Tillie (Stencel) Lepak. He grew up in the area, attending local schools and graduating from Pacelli High School in 1968. Following high school, Gary attended technical college before joining the workforce; working for Copps and AIG. He was also a proud and active member of the Knights of Columbus. On September 20, 1975, he married Theresa "Teri" Kulas at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galloway. The two were blessed with a daughter, Kelly, and a son, Jason. Gary was most proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, and eventually, his grandson. He displayed this pride by joyfully attending as many activities as he could, watching and cheering on all their accomplishments. His family always came first. Gary also found enjoyment in the kitchen; spending time cooking and baking. He loved to share his cookies and other baked goods with others. His kitchen creations weren't the only things he enjoyed sharing; he delighted those around him with his keen sense of humor and quick wit. Furthermore, he shared and believed in his Faith. Gary is lovingly survived by his wife, Teri; his daughter, Kelly (Mark) Mueller; his son, Jason (Krystal) Lepak; and his grandson, Cole Mueller. He is further survived by three brothers, Maynard, Ralph (Phyllis), and Thomas (Carol); a sister, Linda (Larry) Woyak; a brother-in-law, Norm Bejna; and numerous other family and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Tillie; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Reg and Mary Ann Lepak, Myron Lepak, and Virginia Lepak; and sisters, Claudia Bejna and Sister Bernadine Lepak, SSJ. Robert Elder

Age - 75

November 11, 2023, Byron Elder finished his course in this life and entered into the joy of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He fought a good fight against acute myeloid leukemia (ALM) to his last breath and kept the faith, knowing his life and his death were in God's hands. Byron never lost his smile, which communicated his love and joy to those he shared his life with. Byron's life began December 3, 1947 in St. Joseph, MO, born to his father, Robert Ian Elder and mother, Audrey Peabody Elder (Boersting). He lived with his parents and four younger brothers in Doniphan County, KS until 1967. Byron attended his elementary school years in a one-room schoolhouse where he met the love of his life, Marcia Carlson, in the third grade and they have been friends for over 68 years. He attended Troy High School, Troy, KS where he played football, basketball, ran track, and was a member of FFA, Key Club and an energetic baritone for local choirs. Byron went on to attend college at Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, MO. As a little child, Byron found his true passion of sharing the Word of God as he preached to the chickens on the family's farm. Byron spent his life sharing the Gospel and his love for Christ Jesus, Our Lord. Byron was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Bendena, KS where his love for the Body of Christ began. He was an active member of St. John's youth group and choir. This membership was the beginning of a lifelong investment to a Christ centered, Bible believing church. His most current church home was Community Church of Stevens Point, WI. After being involved with several churches in the area over the years, he has enjoyed many dear Christian friends from each place. People were drawn to Byron because of his light, the Light of Jesus. Encouraging each person, giving a pat on the back, sharing his joy for life with a smile was his mission in life!He and Marcia were married June 4, 1967 and moved to St. Joseph, MO where they soon began their ever-growing family. They moved to Urbana, IL in 1969 to pursue education and lived there until their return to Kansas in 1972 where Byron began his 30-plus year career in railroading. While still railroading, he was called to pastor several small congregations in rural Kansas. He rode the rails all week and preached the Gospel each Sunday until the floods of '93 closed the churches he was shepherding. In the summer of 1994 Byron transplanted his family to Stevens Point, WI to work for the Wisconsin Central/Canadian National railroads as a conductor, eventually retiring in 2011. Working on the railroad was not only a job for Byron; it was a delight. He loved his job and his fellow workers. Many of the men he worked with became good friends with whom he stayed in touch over the years. After retirement he and Marcia traveled our beautiful country together, visiting family and friends. They enjoyed years of good health and time together until 2019 when he was diagnosed with preleukemia, followed by his second battle with AML. Byron loved his family! Spending time with his adult children and their children was the delight of his retirement years. Byron is survived by his wife, Marcia; his children, Sarah (Gary) Perman, Northglenn, CO; Kate (Greg) Vogel; Anne (Phil) Kruthoff; Abigail Elder, all of Stevens Point, WI. ; Israel (Nicole) Elder, Leavenworth, KS; Brian Walker, Wathena, KS; Joshua (Jessica) Elder, Phoenix, AZ; and Megan (Richard "Boomer") Karch, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; eighteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings, John Gordon Elder, Orcutt, CA; Paul Elder, Eudora, KS; and David Elder, St. Louis, MO; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Carlson, St. Joseph, MO; and Gordon Carlson, Parkville, MO; and many nieces and nephews. Byron was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Audrey; his brother, Mark Ian Elder (died 1964); a grandson, Raiden Elder (son of Abigail, died 2014); and a granddaughter, Madelynn Vogel (daughter of Kate and Greg Vogel, died 2014). There will be a service at Shuda Funeral Chapel, 3200 Stanley Street , Stevens Point on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Visitation begins at 9:00 a. m. with a service at 11:00 a. m. , burial at 12:00 p. m. at Guardian Angel Cemetery followed by a luncheon at Community Church, 3516 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Cody Kapitzke

Age - 31

Cody Lance Kapitzke, of Stevens Point, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 6, 2023, at the young age of 31. Cody was born February 17, 1992 in Stevens Point, WI; son of Lance and Louise (Harper) Kapitzke. He spent his entire life in the Stevens Point area, attending local schools and graduating from Stevens Point Area Senior High in 2011. As a young boy, Cody was a ray of light wherever he went; talkative, inquisitive, energetic, and always smiling! These traits would never leave him, nor did his love of being active. As a teenager, he was a member of a boxing gym and spent much of his free time at the YMCA. After high school, Cody joined the workforce, working at Walgreens for a bit before working at the UWSP in the food service industry. He was a hard working and dedicated employee, rarely missing a shift, and truly enjoying his work and those he worked with. When he wasn't at work, Cody spent a lot of his time running; his true passion. He was affectionately known in the community as "The Running Guy" as he could be seen almost every day, running different routes, for many miles. Unbeknownst to him, this inspired numerous community members who witnessed his dedication to running. His love for running provided him with great life-time accomplishments, too; he competed in half marathons and recently completed a full marathon. While he preferred running, he really was a fitness guru, spending time biking and lifting weights as well. Furthermore, he enjoyed listening to music, watching football games and movies, playing chess, and of course, spending time with his beloved family. Cody will be remembered for far more than running. He was a loving, genuine, and considerate person, spreading kindness to everyone he met. Although his time here was short, his impact on those he loved will never be forgotten. His ray of light that shone so bright throughout his life, will shine in our hearts forever. Cody will be greatly missed by his parents, Lance and Louise; his sisters, Brittney (Carter Gilliland) Kapitzke and Makayla (Abishua) Kealiher; his maternal grandparents, John and Margaret Harper; and his paternal grandparents, Jack and Georgia Kaptizke. He is further survived by his uncles, Tracy (Paula) Harper, Mark Harper, and Joe (Melissa) Harper; his aunts, Lisa Harper, Lori Harper, Lynne (Tim) Lowe, Lizabeth Harper, and Darcy Travagline; a nephew, Logan Kapitzke; a niece, Maya Kealiher; and numerous friends and extended family members. A funeral service will be held to honor Cody's memory at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Shuda Funeral Home - 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Pastor Steve Hulke will officiate.
