Howard Bruce McKee, 93 of Greenwood went to be with his Lord and Savior and his wife of 64 years, Marcia, on December 5th, 2023. Bruce was born December 17, 1929, and was the youngest of the eight children of James Douglas Allen and Ruby Elois (Elam) McKee. He was the last of his immediate family and was also predeceased by the love of his life, Marcia (Friday) McKee. A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Bruce was known to everyone that knew him as a loving, kind, and gentle man who didn't just talk the talk of his faith in Jesus but walked the walk. A humble servant-leader, he earned the respect of superiors, peers, and subordinates in every aspect of his life. He was truly the kind of man who would give someone the shirt off his back. He was very proud of his military service in the Army National Guard where he retired after 34 years, obtaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after starting his career as a private. His son and grandson followed suit, serving in the Army of which he was extremely proud. He also retired from the United States Postal Service, beginning as a clerk at the Greenwood Post Office and retiring as the Postmaster of Ninety Six, South Carolina. He worshiped at Coronaca Baptist Church where he served in many roles, including singing in the choir, serving as a deacon and as the chairman of the deacons, Sunday School teacher, Royal Ambassador leader, and many others. He led the visitation and outreach team going throughout the community and sharing the Gospel with his neighbors. He was honored in 2017 by being named Deacon for Life by his Church. He served for years as a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer and was on the call list at Self Memorial Hospital because he had type O Negative blood, and actually saved at least one life because of the immediate need for a transfusion of his blood-type. He also gave every eight weeks like clockwork until he was no longer able. The family mourns the loss of this wonderful man but celebrates his life and rests in the knowledge that he has received his eternal reward and that he and Nana are together once again.
