DATELINE: KINGS MOUNTAIN, NORTH CAROLINA Mary Ellen Davis Mary Ellen Davis, 92, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on February 25, 2024 at Peak Resources in Gastonia, NC. She was born in Cleveland County, NC, daughter of the late Clarence and Thelma Ross Watterson and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Norman Davis and her sister, Valiree W. Carroll. Mary Ellen retired from Kings Mountain District Schools while serving in the cafeteria. She was a longtime member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church. She loved visiting and taking church groups to South Mountain Baptist Camp every year for 50 years. Mary Ellen enjoyed fishing with Norman, sewing, and growing beautiful flowers. However, she was always happiest when she was near her family. She always placed them at the center of her life. Mary Ellen was never seen when she was not smiling and always had a joyful and uplifting spirit. She was a wonderful mother, friend, and grandmother to several generations of grandchildren. "Kenneth Edward Griffith, age 83 of Gastonia North Carolina. passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his home following an extended illness. Kenneth was born July 5, 1940, in Richlands, Virginia, and was the son of the late Clyde Griffith Sr., and Veta Goforth Griffith. Kenneth graduated from Richlands High School in 1958. He received a B.S. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, a master’s degree from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, and was granted a teaching fellowship from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., while enrolled in a doctoral program. Kenneth accepted the position of Associate Professor at the University of Richmond and later held a similar position at the College of Charleston, in Charleston, S.C. He changed his career goals and entered the Human Resources field and was appointed Director of Employee Relations at Brookwood Hospital in Homewood Alabama. He also served as Assistant Director of Human Resources at Barnes Hospital in St. Louise, MO, and later retired from the Group Health Association in Washington, D.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Griffith, Jr. Those that survive him are his: Wife, Beulah Carole Meadows Griffith of Gastonia, N.C. Larry was born October 17, 1940, to the late Joseph Elmer and Alice King Ledford. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Vickie Braswell Ledford; sister, Sandra Abee; brothers, James Ledford, Joseph Ledford, Gwndell Ledford, and Glenn Ledford; and granddaughter, Laurie Moss. Larry is survived by his children, Charlie Ledford, Donald Ledford, Jimmy Moss, Angie Moss Dixon (Dean), and Steven Moss (Patty). In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Keith Ledford, Lebo Ledford, Kristin Watkins, Hunter Dixon, Tyler Dixon, Nathan Moss (Amanda), and Corbin Moss (Emily); his great granddaughters, Graylin Moss and Pressley Moss; and his loving sisters, Cathy Davis (Larry) and Dorcas Harris. Larry was retired from The City of Gastonia, NC where he established many lasting friendships. Larry had a life-long love for cars and motorcycles and enjoyed showing off his collection anytime he had the opportunity. When Larry wasn’t tinkering with his cars, you could probably find him in his easy chair watching a good ole Western. The family would like to extend our appreciation to all the staff at Morningside Assisted Living in Gastonia for their love and care of Larry over the last year, as well as Gaston Hospice for their support over the last few weeks. Christopher “Shane” Wise, 47, of Belmont, North Carolina passed away Monday February 19th, 2024, at Gaston Memorial Hospital where he was visited and surrounded by family and loved ones before his passing.Shane was born October 8th, 1976, to Ronald Tadlock and Tina Wise (Davis) of Belmont.He grew up and attended school in Belmont and then went on to pursue a life-long career in the construction industry. He was a skilled craftsman and a master of many trades. He held many positions and did all types of skilled labor throughout his years. He prided himself on being a hard worker and always getting the job done to a high standard.When he wasn’t working to build things for others, he regularly passed the time with his own projects at home. He was a tinkerer through and through and had a passion for figuring out how things worked and how to make them better. He loved anything with an engine and wheels and could spend hours out in the yard or in the garage working on his cars, trucks, and motorcycles.He will be fondly remembered for his jovial spirit, his persistent attitude, his unmatched work ethic, and for all the love and smiles that he shared with us over the years.Shane will be dearly missed by his five children, Jake, Seth, David “Austin”, Noah, and Gracie Wise; his stepchildren, Daniel and Brandon Schesny; his siblings, Natasha Davis, Stephanie Fulmer, and Ronald Tadlock Jr.; his father, Ronald Tadlock; his aunts and uncles, Renee Wise, and Mark and Lori Hunter; his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as countless other loved ones and friends.He was preceded in his passing by his mother, Tina Star Davis; and his grandmothers, Jeanie Hunter and Malvena Davidson Tadlock.All are invited to attend the memorial service held at 1:00pm, Friday March 1st, 2024, at The South Chapel of Greene Funeral Service - 1503 S. Steve was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and cherished friend to many. His carefree soul and the joy he brought to all will be greatly missed.Born on September 7, 1958, Steve lived a life marked by service and adventure. Steve proudly served his country as a Navy Corpsman, where his dedication to the wellbeing of his fellow servicemen – particularly the Marines with whom he worked closely – was highly regarded. Throughout his life, he embodied the spirit and discipline instilled in him through his military experience.Steve's love for reggae music and its positive messages mirrored his own approach to life—full of vitality and love. "Love the life you live. Live the life you love," as Bob Marley said, captures the zest with which Steve lived each day. His passion for being near the water was undeniable, finding peace and enjoyment in kayaking, fishing, and simply spending time on his boat. Whether he was sharing laughter with loved ones or telling tales that captivated an audience, his carefree personality was a breath of fresh air to all who knew him.He leaves behind his loving wife, Kim; his daughter, Emily Cole Saunders and son-in-law John Saunders; daughter Kelly Cole Newland and son-in-law Kevin Newland; granddaughters Alydia Newland and Arabella Newland; his sister, Debbie Melton; and a host of sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
