Myrtle Peabody Cote

Mar 04, 1922 - Dec 30, 2023

location-icon

Newport, NH

Newport, NH: Myrtle Peabody Cote, a lifelong resident of Newport, died peacefully on December 30, 2023 at Woodlawn Care Center. She was 101 years old. She was born on March 4, 1922 in Newport, the daughter of Ralph C. and Ethel (Seavey) Peabody. Myrtle attended school in Newport and was a graduate of Towle High School. She entered the nursing program at Memorial Hospital in Nashua where she would study to become a registered nurse. She always remembered how, at nineteen years old, the work she was about to do suddenly took on solemn significance as she heard, along with the other young students in the car with her, the announcement over the radio that Pearl Harbor had been bombed. She worked at both hospitals in Newport and held various nursing positions within the area. She also explored being a traveling nurse and worked in the Midwest, but decided that Newport was what she liked best. Much later, when in town on errands with her daughter-in-law, she would point out the beautiful Claggett home next to the post office and share her remembrance of working for Dr. Claggett at his office there. Myrtle married her soulmate Roland J. “Mac” Cote in 1956 in Claremont. They had one son, Robert, and made their home in Newport. She loved cooking and spending time with friends in her exercise group and at church. With her husband and son, she was for many years a member of the Episcopal Church in Newport. She herself grew up attending South Congregational Church. When she and a childhood friend were happily reunited sometime in her eighties, the two ladies could be seen for many years afterward sitting together each week in South Church once again. Survivors include her son Robert G. Cote and his wife, Shoshana (Stern) Cote, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, nieces, a nephew, and their families. She will also be missed by close family friends from New York who “adopted” her many years ago. She was predeceased by her husband Roland J. “Mac” Cote in 1989; by her sisters, Helen Peabody, Mary Warren of Wilder, VT and Margaret Riley of Concord, NH; and by her brothers, Fred Peabody of Windsor, VT, Horatio “Buster” Peabody of Claremont, NH and George “Bicket” Peabody. A Memorial Service will be held at South Congregational Church at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 20. 2024 with a light reception to follow. A private burial will take place in the spring. Michelle Marie Haskell

Jun 11, 1975 - Dec 07, 2023

location-icon

Newport, NH

Newport, NH: A journey through the life of Michelle Marie Haskell, a radiant soul who graced the world with her presence. The stars above wept when she departed unexpectedly on December 7th, 2023, due to a heart attack. Born in Claremont, NH to Carol J. (Haskell) Holt, Michelle spent her childhood in Claremont before moving to Newport with her little sister and her children, Ethan & Desirea Meyette and Alyssa Dodge. Over the years, she enriched the world as a daughter, sister, mother, and friend. Her spirit touched many lives, and her absence will be deeply felt, especially by her family. In her late 20s, Michelle discovered her passion for serving others and became an LNA - dedicating herself to caring for those who needed her at the Sullivan County Nursing Home. Later, she became a Homecare Provider, and her selflessness knew no bounds. Michelle's love for crafting, watching TV, and spending time with her loved ones, including her cuddly cat, Ferguson, brought her joy. She also loved driving around in her Shelby Mustang. Michelle's legacy lives on through her children - Ethan Meyette and his wife, Jen, of Newport, NH, Desirea Meyette of Claremont, NH, and Alyssa Dodge of Claremont, NH - and her granddaughter, Kinsley, grandson, Gaige, and a granddaughter, Kehlani, who blessed our distraught family with her beautiful presence on Monday, December 11th, 2023. Michelle is survived by her mother, Carol Holt, of Claremont, NH, and her little sister Heidi (Haskell) and brother-in-law Luke Remick, a niece, and two nephews of Mount Joy, PA. Her Aunt Bev and Uncle Rodney LaClair of Newport, NH, and many cousins. Michelle's grandparents, Stanley and Marjorie Haskell; aunts, Rebecca Haskell and Kathleen Coull; and uncle, David Haskell, preceded her in death. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 6th, 2024, at 1 pm, at the Foresters of America, 38 Maple Street in Newport, NH, to honor Michelle's life and the everlasting impact she had on those around her.
