"Suzanne (Susie) Jacobs Shadle, age 95, passed away Sunday morning, September 10, 2023 at Parkview-Huntington Hospital. Susie was born July 13, 1928 to William H. and Mary (Gavin) Smith. She was a 1946 graduate of Liberty Center High School, and her post high school education degree was from Wayne University of Beauty Culture. She began her career at Jackie's Beauty Shop in Warren and in 1968 continued at the Warren United Methodist Memorial Home beauty shop where she worked for 36 years. Susie was married to Joe M. Jacobs on September 30, 1950. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1981. A second marriage was to Wilbur Shadle on January 16, 2004, who also preceded her in death on May 23, 2014. Survivors include daughters Jo Oswalt (Joe Stites) of Indianapolis, and Carol (Denny) Yontz of Fort Wayne; and son James (Jill) Jacobs of Montpelier. Grandchildren include Mark Wilson, Kim (Cory) Brewster, Susan (Matt) Kinney, Amie (Nick) Lieurance, Kari (Mark) Hull, Diane (Justin) Carroll, John (Maddie) Jacobs, and Jared Jacobs. Great grandchildren include Adela and Aidan Brewster; Austin and Gavin Kinney; Audrey, Vivian and Blythe Lieurance; Luke, Simon and Hattie Hull; Brayden, Keeton, Jaycee and Rylee Carroll; and Jenson and Jentry Jacobs. Stepchildren include Gloria (Jerry) Mahan of Hartford City and Rex Shadle of New Palestine. Step grandchildren include Michelle Williams, Kevin (Tonia) Mahan, Jeffrey Mahan, Brett Mahan, Martin (Jennifer) Shadle, Austin (Laurie) Shadle and Olivia Shadle. There are also 20 beloved step great and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Tom (Sue) Smith of Huntington. Susie loved watching IU basketball, Chicago Cubs baseball and enjoyed collecting all kinds of cardinals - her favorite bird. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A. M. on Thursday (Sept. 14, 2023) at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton with Rev. Amy Beitelschees-Albers officiating. Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton. Visitation will take place from 3 P. M. to 7 P. M. on Wednesday (Sept. 13, 2023) at the funeral home, and for one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorials may be made in Susie's memory, to Calvary Lutheran Church in Bluffton. "Terry S. Hampton, 56 of Bluffton, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 8, 2023, at his home in the loving care of his family. He was born on July 31, 1967, in New York to Larry \u0026amp; Brenda H. (Collins) Hampton. Terry attended Bellmont High School and drove for First Fleet for over 27 years. He enjoyed driving race cars at Montpelier Speedway and playing the guitar. He was a very handy person and always had a project going at his home. He attended First Church of Christ and Christian New Light Church in Bluffton. On March 25, 1988, in Darrtown, Ohio, Terry and Jodi (Berry) Hampton were married. Survivors include his wife Jodi Hampton of Bluffton and two daughters: Teri (Tim) Morgan of Huntington and Emily (Trevor McCullough) Hampton of Decatur. Terry was a loving PaPoo to his two grandchildren, Braxton \u0026amp; Cayden McCullough of Decatur. He is also survived by his father, Larry Hampton of Berne and siblings, Anita Hampton of Decatur and Eddie Hampton of Convoy, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his mother, Brenda H. Hampton. "Sherryl Dian Nicholson, 71 of Bluffton, passed away Tuesday evening, October 31, 2023, at her residence in the loving care of her family. Sherryl was born on November 21, 1951 in Bluffton to Galen Norman \u0026amp; Ida (Faus) Ripple. She graduated from Southern Wells in 1970. On June 10, 1972, Sherryl and Michael J. Nicholson were married in Bluffton. She was a lifelong Wells County resident who was able to stay at home and raise her three children. Sherryl was a fiercely devoted mother and grandmother, who loved cats. She was a very generous person to those in need. Her charitable acts were always completed anonymously. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Michael of Bluffton, along with her three children; Shawn (Dr. Teresa) Nicholson of Bluffton, Stace Nicholson of Alexandria, VA. and Micah (Nicholas) Wright of Brownsburg, IN, along with five grandchildren; Grace \u0026amp; Olivia Nicholson of Bluffton, Madeleine Nicholson of Alexandria, VA. and Harper \u0026amp; Anderson Wright of Brownsburg. Sherryl is also survived by her brother, Dennis Ripple of Bluffton, a devoted sister-in-law and friend, Sandra Faus of Bluffton, and a lifelong friend, Shirley Markley of Sun City, AZ. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Galen Ripple. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 P. M. on Friday, (Nov. 3, 2023) at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton with Pastor Les Cantrell officiating. "Bertha Marie (Faus) Wyatt, 83 of Bluffton, passed away on Friday morning, November 3, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana. Marie was born on April 7, 1940, in Murray, Indiana to Harry \u0026amp; Mary (Archbold) Faus. She attended Lancaster High School and worked at the Dutch Mill, Fruehauf Trailer, and Corning Glass Works. She enjoyed bowling in the Bluffton Woman's Bowling League and her greatest job was raising her family and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her son, Tim (Patricia) Williams of Bluffton, a son-in-law, Bruce E. Wygant of Fort Wayne along with her grandchildren; Josh (Brittany Fechner) Hartman of Fort Wayne, Heather (Ryan) Abbott of Fort Wayne, Timothy (Nikki) Williams, Jr. , Heidi (Chad) Ishee and Luke (Gina) Williams, all of Texas, along with 15 great-grandchildren. Marie is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Rebecca A. Wygant, and 13 siblings. Funeral services will take place at 1 P. "Susan Irey Reno Our dear sister, Susan Reno, Muncie, passed away on October 19, 2023 after dealing with the long-term effects of frontal lobe meningioma. She showed great determination and grew in her faith which provided strength until the end of her life. Susan Grace Irey was born on April 29, 1944 in Bluffton, IN to Garth and Florence (Furnas) Irey, the second of 5 daughters. She graduated from Gaston High School and attended Ball State Teachers College earning degrees in English and History. While at Ball State, she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Susan went on to teach Junior and Senior High School History and ended her career as a High School Guidance Counselor all in Tucson, AZ. She was able to use her teaching, counseling, and administration skills to meet the special needs of many students and after retirement received many grateful notes from former students. Upon retirement, Susan returned to Muncie to be near family and was active in Riverside United Methodist Church, Covenant Partners, and Christians Ministries. Susan was an avid reader. She enjoyed music, landscaping, decorating, and watching sports. Many were blessed to receive one of her beautiful stained-glass creations. Countless lives were touched through her many friendships, teaching, and altruistic endeavors. All who knew her will miss her ability to make people laugh with her quick wit. Susan is survived by sisters, Margaret (Steve) Cullison, Warsaw, Julia (Rick Weaver) Pittenger, Muncie, and Melinda (Rob) Franz, Muncie; Niece, Kristen (Mike) Gray; Nephews, Andrew (Debby) Pittenger, Mark (Berkeley) Franz), James Cullison, and Charles (Janet) Cullison. Also surviving are special nieces and nephews, Gwynneth and Drew Pittenger; Irey, Cohen, Braeden, Brandt, and Milo Gray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her younger sister, Mary Elizabeth, nephew, Christopher Cullison, and brother-in-law, Bill Pittenger. We would like to thank staff at Cedar Creek of Muncie and Paradigm Health-Hospice for their loving care of Susan. There will be a private family memorial service and burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bluffton. Avon Scott

"Avon Dwight "Scotty" Scott Avon D. Scott, 94, of Fort Wayne and a longtime resident of Wells County, passed away October 28, 2023, at Lutheran Life Village due to the effects of melanoma. Avon, known as "Scotty" to nearly all who knew him, was a lifelong farmer, first in Ohio where he was raised in Van Wert County, and then in Jay and Wells counties in Indiana. He milked cows and was proud that they were Jerseys! He was a former member of the American Jersey Cattle Club and was a supporter of Wells County 4-H, and encouraged each of his four children as they completed 10 years in 4-H. He was also a longtime member of the Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren in Fort Wayne. He was born the evening of February 5, 1929, in the Ohio home of his parents, the late Jacob and Eva (Pancake) Scott. He was the fourth of five children, including Margaret (Gorman) Kauffman, Owen Scott and Elizabeth (Jerome) Moser, all of whom preceded him in death, and younger brother Carroll Scott of Bluffton, the sole surviving sibling. He was a 1947 graduate of Monmouth High School in Adams County, and on March 7, 1953, married the love of his life, Peggy (Hart) Scott. She preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1989. He later married Marjorie (Brand) Crill, who along with her late husband Charlie had been friends with Peggy and Avon during their early 20s and onward. Scotty was a devoted husband and caretaker throughout Marge's long battle with dementia, including volunteering to help all nursing home residents at mealtime while she lived there and even for several years after her death on Nov. 14, 2013. He served in the U. S. Army, including his deployment to Korea in the latter years of the Korean Conflict, from December 1954 to December 1955, attaining the rank of Specialist 3 prior to his honorable discharge. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post #111 of Bluffton. Upon returning home, he and Peggy moved to Jay County and farmed for several years before moving the family, including four children, to another farm east of Ossian, so that Peggy could be closer to her ailing father. It was at this time "Scotty" also worked part-time at Perfection Bakery while also milking and farming. They later moved to the Southern Wells school area to continue farming until the economic downturns in the 1980s brought that to an end. At that point, he and Peggy moved to the south side of Bluffton, and he worked for several years as a security officer at Peyton Northern, serving there until his retirement and subsequent move to Fort Wayne. Even in his final days, he never met a stranger. No matter where he went, he struck up conversations with someone and only parted after finding something in common . . . and considering them his new friend. He was a man of integrity, a stoic man who kept his word, no matter what. He was also a firm believer in God and follower of Jesus Christ, and his biggest concern was that his family and friends would receive salvation and join him someday in heaven. He is survived by two sons, Del (wife: Sylvia) Scott of Largo, Florida, and Duane (wife: Kathy) Scott of rural Bluffton; two daughters, Delora (husband: Ed) Hartsock of New Castle, and Diane (husband: Steve) Michael of Zionsville; two stepchildren, Connie (husband: Rich) Thiel of Port Orange, Florida, and Mike (wife: Paula) Crill of Fort Wayne; his brother, Carroll (wife: Carol) Scott of Bluffton; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Peggy; his second wife, Marge; three siblings; and a great number of other relatives and friends. A funeral service and celebration of life will be held at 10:30 A. M. on Saturday (Nov. 4, 2023) at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton with Pastor Jerry Ingalls officiating. Calling will be held from 3 P. M. to 7 P. M. on Friday (Nov 3, 2023) at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Montpelier, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lincolnshire Church of the Brethren, the Wells County 4-H Association, or Stillwater Hospice, and should be directed to the funeral home. Carol Meeks

"Carol Jean (Schoeff) Meeks, 87, passed peacefully into the arms of her loving savior on Tuesday, October 31 at Christian Care in Bluffton. A lifelong resident of Wells County, she was born August 4, 1936, in Jackson Township. She was the eldest child of Glen and Helen (Roush) Schoeff. Her family moved to Lancaster Township in 1949. She married John Meeks in 1954 and they raised 4 children. John passed in 2012. Born with a servant's heart, Carol spent every day studying God's word, listening to Gospel Music, and serving her family, church and community. A strong woman of faith, she was a devoted member of Epworth Methodist Church. She was a wonderful gardener, cook and baker and blessed her church family and her own family with her delicious dishes made with an extra portion of love. Carol was a member of the Loyal Neighbors Club and later the Lancaster Neighbors Club. Last year she was recognized as the Wells County Extension Homemaker of the Year. She served the community for many years as a poll worker and oversaw the food, crafts and needlework displays in the City Building during Street Fair for over 30 years. As a Farm Bureau member, she enjoyed traveling on their educational trips as well as Light Rider bus trips with family and friends. She was a loyal fan of IU basketball. Go Hoosiers! Carol is survived by her daughter Linda (Terry) Masterson, son Richard Meeks, daughter in law Pam Meeks and son in law David Webb. She has two grandsons: Chad (Rev. Angela) Meeks and David (Jennifer) Meeks. She has 5 Meeks great grandchildren Jared (Angela), Elisha, Cole (Gabbi), Grace, and Sophia, and one great-great grandson Lucas Allen Meeks. She is also survived by her loving sisters Joyce Neuenschwander and Glennis (Wayne) Henly and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, son Michael, and daughter Marilyn Webb, her sister Frances (George) McIntosh, brother Roy (Janet) Schoeff, and brother-in-law, Walt Neuenschwander, Jr also preceded her. Calling for family and friends will be Sunday, November 5th from 2-7 pm at Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton and for one hour prior to the service. Funeral Services will take place at 10:30 A. M. Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Marlene Ellis and Tony Garton officiating. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Bluffton. While Carol loved flowers and could grow anything, the family would prefer memorials be made to the donor's choice. Make this an opportunity to do something good for someone else in her name.
