Susan L. Smith (Tremblay), age 74 of Concord, NH passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on September 7, 2023, after a two-year battle with ALS. Susan was a beloved wife, mother, memere, daughter, sister, aunt and dear friend to many. Susan was born September 22, 1948, and raised in Manchester, NH by the late Leo and Lucy Tremblay. She graduated from Immaculata High School in Manchester, NH in 1966. She met the love of her life at the JFK Memorial Coliseum in Manchester, NH at an ice-skating party. The couple married in 1967 and first lived on Summer Street in Manchester, eventually buying their first house on Porter Street in Manchester, where they raised their children in a loving family home. Susan is retired from the State of New Hampshire, Bureau of Turnpikes where she worked as the supervisor of toll operations. She was blessed to be able to retire early with her beloved husband. The pair wintered in Englewood, Florida, eventually purchasing a home in Florida where they wintered for 19 years. Susan loved to travel with her husband and friends, travelling to Ireland, Germany, Jerusalem, Alaska and many more destinations. Susan was an active parishioner of Christ the King Church in Concord, NH and enjoyed volunteering at the church in various activities and functions. Susan was a very creative person and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and quilting. Quilting was her favorite hobby and she quilted with friends every Friday at the Golden Gese Quilt Shop in Concord. She donated many of her creations to benefit the State of New Hampshire Charitable Campaign and Operation Santa. Susan put a lot of love in her quilted creations, quilting messages on the back of her designs and gifting quilts to family and friends. She said that her quilts were a labor a love. She will forever be in the hearts of her loving husband, Roger; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Timothy Lamphere; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Debra Smith; her grandsons, Wesley, Ian and Evan Lamphere; her sister and brother-in-law, Joanne and Patrick Cote, along with many other family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Ronald, Paul and Michael. The family will receive visitors Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 p. m. at Phanuel Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 172 King Street, Boscawen, NH. The funeral will be at Christ the King Parish, 72 S Main Street, Concord on September 27, 2023, at 10:00 a. m. Cecile Gilbert Soucy, 94 died on the 30th of November 2023 at Granite Ledges of Concord, NH. She was born March 8 , 1929 in Belmont NH the daughter of Maurice and Rosilda (Savard) Gilbert. She was the wife of Raymond Soucy. They were married on October 15 , 1983 in Concord, NH. Cecile graduated from Belmont High and was employed by New England Telephone company for more than 35 years. She was a member of the Franklin Outing Club and enjoyed skiing well into her 70s. An artist at heart, she enjoyed painting, pastels, sewing, and stained glass. She and her husband enjoyed traveling in their camper. She also had the opportunity to visit Switzerland, Ireland, Hawaii and Alaska. Never one to shy away from spending time with family, she flew to Boise, Idaho to visit her son where she attended a Foreigner Concert and stood up front so she could see better, flew to Chattanooga for her grandson's wedding, her granddaughter's wedding in Georgia and later returned to Blue Ridge, Georgia where she remembers being "treated like a Queen". Family was everything to her with the exception of her dog "Cooper", who provided companionship to her and the residents of Granite Ledges. Cecile was predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond Soucy, brothers Rene Gilbert, Delphis Gilbert, Arthur Gilbert, Norman Gilbert and Edward Gilbert, Sister Rita Soucy, son Bruce Bushman and step-daughter Diana Childs. Cecile is survived by her sisters Florence Simoneau and Irene Bourbeau, her sons David Bushman and wife Joanne, Frank Bushman and Marti Whitney, daughters Debbie Hatch and husband Jon and Donna Gut and husband Stephen. Step-children Debbie Sartorelli and husband Peter and Denise Yeaton. She also leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn "Mal" Tanny passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023, at age 94. A sweet, happy mom and friend with a contagious smile, she was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, the daughter of Marion (Goodwin) and Frank Berridge. Her mother taught her to play piano and instilled in her a lifelong love of music. As a teen Marilyn played piano for the church choir and for many school music performances. She graduated from Boston University magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Music. Marilyn met her husband Burt in high school biology class. They married in 1950 after Burt returned from Europe at the end of WWII. They moved to Laconia, New Hampshire where they raised their three daughters: Sherry (Spurr), Vicki (Whittemore), and Lauren. Thirty years of summers were spent boating on Lake Winnipesaukee exploring the islands, water skiing, picnics and Weirs Beach fireworks. Neighborhood parties with Burt and Mal routinely ended around the piano with Mal playing show tunes, 40's favorites and Auld Lang Syne. For 17 years, Marilyn taught music to hundreds of children in the Interlakes Elementary Schools. She later went to night school to learn computer programming, after which she worked for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of New Hampshire for 9 years. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Burton Tanny, who passed in October 2000, and her brother Dr. Frank Berridge in 2022. She is survived by her three daughters (Sherry, Vicki, and Lauren), sons-in-law (Phil Spurr, Mark Whittemore, and Jim Wood), six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, her sister Marjorie Staudenbaur of Reno, Nevada, and several nieces and nephews. She was very close to her brother and sister. After Burt died, visits with family, scenic drives, cooking, walking, reading, crosswords, and anything chocolate kept her happy and occupied. She was always upbeat and quick to smile and laugh. Her family was everything special to her and the pride, love and joy of her life. The family sends a heartfelt thank you to all the angels at The Birches, Granite Ledges, and the Visiting Nurses Association for all the wonderful care they provided the last few years of Mom's life. Nancy Lee Poulios, 69, of Concord, NH, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, after an 18-month battle with brain cancer. She was the wife of Peter Stanley Poulios and proud mother of Philip Scott Poulios of Boston, MA. Nancy was born on August 6, 1954, in Manchester, NH, the daughter of the late Thomas Cooley of Manchester, NH, surviving mother, Beverly (Dastin) Ford of Concord, NH, and stepdaughter of Ronald Ford of Concord, NH. Devoted sister to 6 siblings. Nancy and Peter were married for 48 wonderful years of love and happiness. She cherished being a mother to Philip who was her proudest accomplishment and whom she loved to "the moon and back". Nancy and Peter lived most of their life in Manchester and Hooksett, NH, before moving to Charleston, SC, for retirement. They eventually moved back to the Northeast, settling in Concord, NH to be closer to their family and friends. Nancy was a successful hairdresser and took immense pride and joy in her work. After graduating from Concord High School in 1971, Nancy went to Cosmetology school. She spent several years building her cliental before opening her own hair salon in Manchester, NH. She was loved by many. Known for her baking skills, especially her Greek pastries and Christmas cookies, Nancy was also recognized as a thoughtful, loving, and supportive person to everyone she knew. She loved children and cherished her many nieces and nephews. Nancy enjoyed traveling but loved spending time with her loved ones. Elizabeth L. (Warner) Desmarais, a longtime resident of Contoocook, NH, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the age of 69, from heart failure. Betty, as she was known by most, was born in Northampton, MA to Don and Claire Warner formerly of East Concord, NH. After graduating from Concord High School in 1972, Betty went on to earn Bachelor and Masters degrees in the field of computer programming and analysis. She held various professional positions in those fields at Harvard and Dartmouth Colleges. Upon retirement, Betty followed her passion for sewing and opened the Lizzy Stitch Quilt and Longarm business with a shop originally in Warner, NH, then later moving the business to Concord. She was involved with the Contoocook Artisans, a juried group of talented crafters. In her earlier years, Betty was an avid cyclist along with her partner Bob. Some of their more notable treks included biking in the Moab Desert, across the European countryside and Betty also embarked on a coast-to-coast ride from the Pacific northwest to Hampton Beach, NH. Their travels also took them to Baja, CA, dog sledding in Alaska and a river cruise in Africa. One of her more recent accomplishments was becoming very proficient at playing her ukulele at open-mic nights and for her and her family's entertainment. She kept in touch with her many friends on Facebook often sharing photos of her vegetable and flower gardening projects. Her greatest passion in life was her family. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings Craig Warner and Judy Blackwell and is survived by her son Chris, his wife Ashley and their children Haile, Sutton and Davis, son Mike and his fiance Lindsay Hunt, her siblings Donna, Dale, and Jennifer Warner, and her very "Significant Other" Bob Wilson, along with many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on November 17th, 2023 at 11:00am, at the Wesley United Methodist Church on Clinton Street in Concord, followed by an internment service at Blossom Hill Cemetery in West Concord. HILLSBOROUGH - Priscilla George, (89) passed away peacefully on October 31st, at Concord Hospital after a sudden illness. Priscilla was born on March 17, 1934 the daughter of Louis and Bunny Pierce (Conway) in Brockton, Massachusetts. Priscilla was raised in Brockton, Massachusetts, graduated from Brockton High School in 1949 and Houghton College, Houghton, New York in 1953. She went to work at Mass General Hospital in Boston as an arthritis research technician. She then went on to work as a customer service representative at the Peoples Heritage Bank in Bangor, Maine. She also worked as a substitute teacher in various elementary schools in Maine and New Hampshire. Priscilla married her college classmate, the Rev. Dr. Louis (Lou) George on June 22, 1957. Their children include; Roy George and his wife Hope of Hillsborough, New Hampshire. Philip George of Alstead, New Hampshire, Sharon Hamilton and her husband Tim of Bangor, Maine. Stephen George and his wife Tammy of Hartland, Maine. Priscilla had nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. She was very committed to her church, the United Baptist Church of Concord, New Hampshire. Her faith in Christ was deep and it showed both in her life and actions. She was a former member of the board of the Concord Community Concert Association. However, the most important thing in her life was her children and their families. A celebration of her life will be held on December 9th, at 10:00am at the United Baptist Church, 39 Fayette St. Concord, New Hampshire 03301. Virginia Moore Sewell Vidaver departed this life on Sunday, October 15, 2023 after a brave, multi-decade battle with Parkinson's disease. She was four months shy of her 90th birthday. Born in 1934, Virginia was the youngest child of Clyde "Tiddley" Stetzel and Martha Virginia Moore Sewell of Jackson, Tennessee. She graduated from Jackson Central High School in 1951, attended Belmont College for one year before transferring to Union University, where the student body elected her most beautiful co-ed during her sophomore year and brightest student in the junior class. She graduated Union in 1955 and then pursued additional training at the Yale University School of Nursing, receiving a Master of Science in Nursing in 1958. She later earned a Master's Degree in Health Care Administration from Columbia University Teachers' College in 1982 and entered its doctoral program. She met her husband of sixty-three years, Dr. Robert M. Vidaver, in 1958. They married in 1960 and raised four children: Mary, Robert C. , Patrick, and John. As a wife and a mother, her love never faltered, expressed in an unstinting investment of time and energy into the family's well-being. Virginia spent much of her professional career expanding the reach and impact of home health services. At New Haven Visiting Nurse Association, she collaborated with Yale researchers on an innovative child health and parenting plan and new community-based programs for the mentally ill. She directed a visiting nurse association in Bernardsville, New Jersey and served as director of nursing for the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Neo-Natal Care at Sentara Teaching Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. Of importance too, was her teaching role at Old Dominion University, also in Norfolk. In 1988, she accepted appointment as the chief executive officer of a community-based home health care agency in Keene, New Hampshire, transforming the small non-profit organization into the multi-service, multi-district HCS (Home Health Care, Hospice & Community Services) until her retirement in 2001. Virginia was a member of the Chi Omega, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and two honor societies, Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Theta Tau. Virginia was predeceased by her parents and her elder siblings, Clyde Jr. (a B-24 pilot killed in action during World War II) and Barbara Sue (Baker). She leaves behind her husband, Robert, four children, their spouses and partners, a nephew and three nieces, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, along with multiple friends and extended family. A funeral service will take place on Monday, November 6th at 1 pm in the sanctuary of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. A burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Concord, New Hampshire. On October 11, 2023, after a period of illness, heaven gained a wonderfully beautiful soul. Eileene Thurston ( Barton), 79, of Concord, NH, returned to her heavenly Father. While we wept here, heaven rejoiced as Eileene is once again home with her heavenly family. In life, Eileene suffered greatly being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in her 20's, but that never stopped her from being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother or family member. She considered everyone she loved a blessing. She was a loving mother, and considered motherhood to be her earthly purpose, she would often be laughing and playing with her children. She was well known for slapping her knee when excited and then saying ouch which always brought a smile to the rest of us. Being a loving soul was her greatest accomplishment and undoubtedly her key to heaven. Eileene is survived by her siblings, Louisa, Sharon, Karene, Janet, Rhoda, Douglas, Peter, Omar, Pam, Greg, and Patricia. She loved her large family. Her three children, Christine, Rory Scott, and Faith. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Tony, Alex, Danielle, Melissa, Cody, Brayden, Bentley, Hadley, and Hanna; when she saw any of them she always wanted a smooch and a hug. Elieene also leaves her great grandchildren; Jaxon, Hannah, and Raegan, the modern technology of Zoom made it easier for her to spend time with them and watch them grow over the last few years and through the pandemic, and she never missed the opportunity to see them. Eileene also leaves countless nieces and nephews. Though she always told us we were a blessing, it was truly all of us that were blessed to have such a beautiful soul, as a sister, mother and grandmother. Eileene's funeral service will be on Wednesday November, 8th at 10:00am at Christ the King Church located at 72 South Main St. in Concord, NH. James Gordon Newton of Epsom, NH succumbed to Parkinson's disease on October 13 2023 at the age of 75. He was born to the late John and Dorothy Newton on May 18 1948 in Concord, NH. James graduated from Concord High School in 1967 before serving 4 years in the Navy on the USS Pocono. He later went to work as a packaging laborer for Kraft Foods. James loved to be in nature, he could always be found hunting, fishing, searching for wildlife, and taking long rides in the country. He loved to both play golf and watch golf on TV, when there wasn't a Patriots or Red Sox game on. He also loved to go candle pin bowling and spending time with his loved ones. James is survived by his sister Barbara; his partner of 35 years, Bernice Oliver; his children Denise Nylen and her husband Jon; Tom Smart and his wife, Laura; Ken Smart and his wife Sarah; her grandchildren James, Ashley, Heather, Blake and Landon; and two nieces and one nephew. James was predeceased by his father, John in 1976; his mother Dorothy in 2006; and his brother Robert in 2011. He will be greatly missed by all. Services will be held on Friday October 27, 2023 at 11:00am at the Blossom Hill Cemetery Chapel, 207 N State St, Concord, NH 03301.
