Susan Marie Deneen (nee Johnson), age 58, of Mokena passed away September 9, 2023. Beloved wife of Daniel Deneen; loving mother of Megan Deneen; cherished daughter of Carl Johnson and the late Elsie (nee Richards) Johnson; dear sister Keith Johnson, Michael Pieper, Leonard Johnson, and the late Carl William Johnson; aunt and friend to many. Susan loved all things Disney. She was fun to be around and was well known for her great memory. In lieu of flowers, memorials to New Lenox Township Food Pantry are appreciated. Maurice J. BalhanAge 69, a 48-year resident of Mokena, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, IL. Maurice was born in Verviers, Belgium to Malou (nee Moyano) and the late Joseph Balhan. Beloved husband of Janet (nee Crabb) Balhan; loving father of Krystle (Thomas Esch) Balhan, and Matthew (Sarah) Balhan; cherished grandfather of June Balhan-Esch; devoted son of Malou (late Woodrow) Nelson; dear brother of Michael (Linda) Balhan; loved uncle, great uncle, cousin, and friend of many. Moe was a master mechanic and the owner of Balhan Auto Care, Inc, East Hazel Crest, IL for over 46 years. He passed his trade on to his son, Matt, and they worked together in the family business for 15 years. Moe inherited a love of horses from his late father and was an avid equestrian as a child and teenager. He was a talented musician who shared his musical gift generously with friends and family. He had a sense of adventure, which he shared as a travel companion with his mother and daughter, Krystle. Moe was gregarious and playful; he loved kids and was always ready to join in their worlds. He and his darling wife, Janet, were high school sweethearts and built a life together with laughter and devotion. On the golf course, at family gatherings, in the garage, and in so many other spaces, Moe will be missed by all who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd, New Lenox, IL on Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 1:00pm until the time of Celebration of Life at 5:00pm. She was a parishioner of St. Mary Church for several years. Karen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated herself to her immediate and extended family. She was a loyal friend to many and was known for her fun-loving personality and quick wit. Karen had a passion for current events, reading, and crossword puzzles. She was also a talented athlete and a former competitively ranked tennis player who played games against the likes of Billie Jean King and Yvonne Goolagong. She enjoyed playing tennis, swimming, walking on the beach, and playing bridge and euchre. In her career, Karen served as a Tennis Instructor at Beverly, Midlothian, Rivera, and Woodmar Country Club. She also worked as a Sales Representative for Shirley Enterprises and Johnson \u0026amp; Johnson. Beloved wife of Richard J. Cummings for 52 years. Nadine Collins, age 88, of Peotone, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Clarendale of Mokena. She was born on January 16, 1935, in Mammoth Springs, AR, the daughter of James and Lena (Kester) Groves. She married Lloyd D. Collins on November 9, 1955, in Monee, IL. He passed away on June 12, 2013. Nadine was an avid reader and loved her novels, easily reading three to four novels a week. For many decades, she enjoyed bowling on the Ladies Tuesday Night League at the Peotone Bowling Center. Nadine was also a sun worshiper. During their empty nest years, Nadine and Lloyd spent their winters in Florida where they enjoyed the sun, sand, and visits from their family. Nadine and Lloyd also loved socializing and often enjoyed fine food and cocktails at Mr. Benny’s restaurant with the best of friends. However, her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Nadine had a special knack with the young grandkids. Lots of snuggles, playing games, and enjoying movies together were favorite pastimes. She took her grandchildren to nice restaurants and introduced them to live theatre and concerts. These times were a special treat for Nadine and Lloyd, as well as their grandkids. She often traveled to Atlanta to spend time with her out of state grandkids and to make special memories with them. All of her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Nadine is survived by her children, Lloyd (Jeri) Collins, Jr. , Linda Barten, Linnea (Roger) Ashley, Leslie Voges, and Pam McTernan; her grandchildren, Tucker (Jenny) Collins, Rachel Barten, Stacey (Tom) Kosloskus, Blake (Ariel) Ashley, Lena Ashley, Clayton Ashley, and Charlie McTernan; her great-grandchildren, Deacon, Gage, Abbey, Reagan, and Aurora; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd D. Collins, Sr. , her sister, Patricia Fly; her granddaughter, Abigail Barten; and her son-in-law, Richard L. "Dick" Barten. Gerald (Jerry) Dennis Johnson, 84, formerly of Elwood and a recent resident of Mokena, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2023 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. Born January 24, 1939 in Joliet, Illinois, Jerry was the son of Verner and Corinne (Allendorf) Johnson. He grew up in Joliet and graduated from Joliet Central Class of 1957. Jerry was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. He formerly worked as a bagger at Scot Lad Foods on Rt 30 in Joliet, later moving through the ranks and managed Thrif-T-Mart's in Ottawa and Aurora before becoming a grocery buyer for Scot Lad Foods then head-quartered in Lansing, IL. Jerry later became a partner in JV Foods, Joliet, IL and subsequently opened three additional grocery stores - Festival Foods in Bourbonnais, IL and Food Expo in Bradley and Streator, IL. Jerry semi- retired and later became an assembler for Huffy Corporation before fully retiring. Jerry is survived by his children, Susan (Christopher) Markgraf of Mundelein, Sharon (Cedric) Hentsch of Mokena, Sandra (Mark) Chellios of Manhattan and Steven (Melanie) Johnson of Lockport. Grandchildren, Matthew (Asia) Markgraf of Murray, KY, Alex (Jessica) Johnson of Groves, TX, Sarah (fiance' Adam Necklaws) of Wauconda, IL, Kyle (Malai) Chellios of Lakeland, FL, Brittany Hentsch of Tinley Park, IL, Corinne (Kory) Mitcheff of New Lenox IL, Kali Hentsch (fiance Jordan Hays) of Justin, TX, and Hannah Johnson of Lockport, IL. His grandson-in-law, Tyler Chambers, Tsgt US Air Force, Scott Air Force Base, Belleville, IL. His great-grandchildren, Carson, Charlotte, Ellie, Griffin, Fitz, Briar, Mika, Eliza and Bru. Many nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Wanda (Button), November 2020, his granddaughter, Lindsy (Chellios) Chambers, August 2020, his parents Verner and Corinne (Allendorf) Johnson and his in-laws Vernon and Lucille (Walker) Button. Visitation for Jerry will be on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 from 4-8:00 P. M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, Funeral service will be the following day, September 28, 2023 at 10:30 A.
