Susan Ann Smith Cordle, age 62, of Honaker, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday (October 4, 2023) at her home. Born May 8, 1961 in Tazewell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Leonard and Helen Kinder Smith. She had spent most of her life in Southwest Virginia and Sevierville, Tennessee. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith and when her health allowed, she attended The Anchor at Soul's Harbor Church. She had formerly been employed as a cook at Dolly Parton's Stampede and she enjoyed travelling and just riding around in the car. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jessie Cordle, Jr. ; three brothers, Raymond Smith, David Smith and Johnny Smith; one sister, Bonnie Dyer. Survivors include her husband of forty-six years, Jessie Howard Cordle of the home; daughter, Marilyn Patty and husband, Delmus of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; son, Johnny Cordle and fiancee, Pamela Hess of Wysor Valley, Virginia; sister, Geneva Melvin of Baltimore, Maryland; sons at heart, Paul Dyer and Perry Cattlitt; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews also survive. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted at 7 PM Tuesday at The Anchor at Soul's Harbor Church with Pastor Joel Horne, Rev. Bobby Horne and Rev. Carter Dye officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 PM to 7 PM.

Jo Ann Webb Perkins, age 80, of the Robinson Ridge section of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Thursday morning (December 7, 2023) at her home. Born May 18, 1943 in Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Arlin and Dora Richardson Webb. A lifelong resident of the area, she had formerly been employed as a unit clerk at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. She enjoyed attending different churches, sewing and working in her flowers when her health permitted. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John and Lizzie Richardson; paternal grandparents, Beverly and Grace Webb and one step-son, Eugene Perkins. Survivors include her husband, Elmer Perkins of the home; one son, Keith Perkins of Swords Creek, Virginia; step-son, Brian Perkins of Swords Creek, Virginia; step-daughter, Linda Fitzgerald of Richlands, Virginia; sister, Madge Miller of Swords Creek, Virginia; brother, Randy Webb of Dandridge, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews also survive. The family would like to thank the staff of Divine Home Care for the love and wonderful care they provided. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Dye officiating. Interment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Mr. William "George" Edward Ball, Sr. , age 68, of the Finney section of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (December 5, 2023) at his home. Born September 22, 1955 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Flora Bell Cook. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Freewill Baptist faith. He was a retired employee with VDOT, having worked full-time for over twenty years and a former volunteer with the Honaker Fire Department. He enjoyed riding horses, fishing, and hunting, but most of all spending time with his family. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Eula Mae Ball, Betty Jean Shortridge, and Ruby Keller. Survivors include his wife of nearly fifty years, Barbara Ball; two sons, William "Peanut" Edward Ball, Jr. and wife, Earika Diane, and Randall Lee Ball and wife, Rhonda Jean; four grandchildren, Eric Ball, Cory Ball, Koby Ball, and Cheyenne Ball; two brothers, Ronnie Darrell Wilson and wife, Linda and Robert Lee Cook and wife, Sherry; half-brother, Lonnie "Buck" Hart and wife, Tammy; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Chester Ball officiating. Mrs. Beulah Mae Ball, age 90, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (November 28, 2023) at her home. Born September 26, 1933 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Edd and Mary Bostic. A lifelong resident of the Buchanan and Russell county areas, she was a member of Bee Pentecostal Church of God for over fifty years. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she enjoyed reading her Bible, the newspaper, and playing bingo. Her greatest joy was taking care of and spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verlion Ball; son, Dallas Ball; daughter, Carol Ball; son-in-law, Russell Ray; daughter-in-law, Gnett Ball; grandson, Shannon Hubbard; and siblings, Claude, Henry, Dewey, Ervin, Ellis, Curtis, Eugene, Ida Belle, Grace, Thelma, and Velva. Jeffery Lynn "Huggy Bear" Honaker, 59, of Honaker, Virginia passed away Wednesday (November 8, 2023) at his home. Born January 20, 1964 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of Will Roger and Shirley Honaker. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1982 graduate of Honaker High School. He was a member of Outreach Temple in Wysor Valley. He was employed as a truck driver with E. Dillon & Co. He was a homebody by choice, but also enjoyed going to church, hunting, fishing, watching NASCAR and Raiders football. He was preceded in death by his brother, Terry Jason Honaker; maternal grandparents, Bazzie and Clara Miller and paternal grandfather, James Honaker, paternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Opal and Charles Altizer. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife twenty-six years, Colleen Honaker of Honaker, Virginia; grandchildren, Breanna Harrison and husband, Cody, Jayden Hall and fiance, Zion Alexander and Hunter Hall; great-grandchildren, Jordan Martin and Greyson Harrison; daughter-in-law, Crystal Martin Hall; favorite cat, Kitty; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends also survive. It is with great sadness that we announce that our loving and devoted mother, mammaw, and friend. Mrs. Vaneline Cora Price Ratliff, age 83, of Lebanon, Virginia is now resting in the arms of Jesus. Born February 11, 1940 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late James Oliver and Sadie M. Strouth Price. She had spent most of her life in the Russell County area and was of the Baptist faith. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a dedicated mother and mommaw first and foremost. She treasured every moment with her family. She loved the Lord and held steadfast to her faith. She loved to crochet and quilt, and then give her treasured items to the people she loved. She loved her flowers, fishing, shopping, dancing, and people. She never met a stranger; they were friends she hadn't met yet. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Arnold "Don" Ratliff; one son, Rinnie Ratliff; granddaughter, Kimberly Ratliff; great-grandson, Bellamy Johnson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenford and Sylvia Price and Bascom and Peanut Price; and one son-in-law, Fred Burgess. Survivors include four children, Kathy Gregory and husband, Earl, Peggy Burgess, Ricky Ratliff and wife, Sandy, and Randy Ratliff and wife, Kim; grandchildren, Natasha (Steven), Jamie (Brandi), Robbie (Nikki), Ralphie, Danny, Mikey (Tiffany), Amber, Ryan, Tiffany (Mark), Amber and friend, Thomas, Chrystal, Kenny, Barry, and Jay and their families; great-grandchildren, Christopher, Illianna, Colby, Brentlee, Octavia, Emmy J, Gaven, Koedan, Brycen, Abby, and Brooke; her fur baby, Misty; daughter-in-law, Bonnie; sister, Irene; numerous niece, nephews, and extended family also survive. Mr. Raymond Lee Taylor, age 75, of the Clarks Valley section of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Thursday (November 2, 2023) at his home. Born May 17, 1948 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of the late Will and Annie Perkins Taylor. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1968 graduate of Honaker High School, attended Swords Creek Community Baptist Church, and was a member of the Richlands Masonic Lodge #318 AF & AM. He had formerly been employed by Island Creek Coal Company for several years and was a certified mason. He later started a career in law enforcement, retiring as a Sheriff's Deputy with Russell County Sheriff's Department. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed watching sports, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Tom Taylor, Carl Henry Taylor, Walter Taylor, and Sam Taylor, and three sisters, Dorothy Jackson, Mary Taylor, and infant, Nora Taylor. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Sheryl Taylor of the home; two sons, Shannon Taylor and wife, Lorrie, and Brandon Taylor and friend, Molly Lester all of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Savanna Taylor of Piney Flats, Tennessee, Luke Taylor and Willow Taylor both of Lebanon; two brothers, Frank Taylor and wife, Lavonne of Ivel, Kentucky and Ralph Taylor and wife, Tina of Owingsville, Kentucky; honorary grandson, Austin Caldwell; several nieces and nephews also survive. Betty Joann Breeding Bostic, age 87, of Belfast, Virginia, passed away Friday (October 13, 2023) at Heritage Hall of Tazewell. Born August 12, 1936 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Tivis and Lottie Compton Breeding. She was a lifelong resident of the area and worked many jobs that allowed her to give back to the people in the community she loved. She had been employed as an EMT, Post Master, floral delivery driver and store owner. She had several of her own small business ventures including upholstery and quilting, which allowed her to earn money while doing her favorite hobbies, quilting, sewing and crafting. She was a former manager of Council Pool and the Council Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Ilene Rasnake, Thelma (Sherman) Deel, Beulah (Lundey) Duty and Judy (Eddie) Mathis; brothers, Tivis Breeding, Jr. and Ronald Parker Breeding; son-in-law, Terry Graham and daughter-in-law, Sherry Bostic. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Graham of Blacksburg, Virginia; son, Rick Bostic of Belfast, Virginia; grandchildren, Amanda Horton, Bradley Bostic, Josie Surface and Rick Graham; great-grandchildren, Logan Surface, Trevan Surface, Trent Surface and Lynden Surface; sisters, Wanda Sullivan and husband, Walter Lee, Loretta Bostic and husband, Herman and Brenda Hale; a host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
