The Viewing will be held at the church, Friday, December 8, 2023, from 5-7pm. Joyce Cassandra Owens was born on May 11, 1938 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late Otto Maxine Johnson Harris and Grace Elizabeth Harris. She attended the local Duval County Public Schools and graduated apart of the New Stanton Senior High School Class of 1956. Joyce was united in marriage to Freddie Owens in 1974 and would remain his faithful and devoted wife, friend and care taker until his passing in 2005. Joyce received a degree in Floral Industry Management which allowed her to serve as a wedding coordinator and floral designer for many couples over the years. She started her own business, Creations by Owens. Her other passion besides wedding planning was caring for children. Joyce spent years as a daycare manager and eventually began to take children into her own home during their early years. She would teach them to read, they would be potty trained and well groomed. Aside from all the wedding planning and caretaking of babies Joyce made time to serve others and serve in her local church. The Owens Home was known for throwing a great party. In the 1970s Joyce was a member of Mount Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she served as President of Usher Board No. 2, Director of Easter Programs, a member of the Church Calendar Committee, Assistant Secretary of District No. 9, Pastor Aid and Willing Workers Board. In 1989 after a revival encounter Joyce moved her membership to Philippian Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Lawrence C. Callahan Sr. and Bishop Virgil C. Jones Sr. There she served as apart of the P. C. C. Banquet Staff and was a Communion Worker. In 2015, Joyce would join Truth in Love Ministries. She was a devoted member of the 43 Strong, and Seasoned Saints. While her heart desired to serve in her local ministry more, her health would not always allow her. She dearly loved her leaders, Pastors Cobie & Camilla Nesbitt and their babies. Mama would often tell everyone about her love for them any chance she got. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Joyce was truly a joy to anyone that encountered her. She believed in giving every task your best and thought that perfection came from paying attention to the minor details. She was a nurturer until the end. Left to mourn the passing of their matriarch is Jackie (Adrian), Darryl Sr. (Michelle), Frederick "Keith", Darryl Jr. , Kamara, Gabrielle, and Ayden. sisters: Jacqueline Maxine Chandler, Gail R. Harris, brother in Law, Eddie "Duckman" Owens; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and lifelong dear friends. To to the family or in memory of Joyce Cassandra Owens, pleaseShow more

William White

William White

Age - 76

December 8, 2023

William Howard White, 76, peacefully entered eternal rest on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by his family. Howard was a man of many gifts and talents and will be sorely missed by his family, friends and the Jacksonville community he called "home" for over 50 years. Howard was born on December 5, 1946, in Foley, Alabama, and was the last surviving sibling out of 17 children. Determined and disciplined, Howard left his home in Alabama at the age of 15 and headed to Florida to make something of himself, and that he most certainly did. Howard worked during the day and took classes at night at Polk County Community College, earned his Associates of Business Degree and then started a Savings & Loan Company. This was the beginning of his remarkable journey into the world of banking and building. In 1977, Howard founded North Florida Builders, Inc. As a premier custom home builder, Howard built over 2,000 custom homes until his retirement in 2018. He could sketch and create an award-winning masterpiece of a home, visualize a renovation or design an addition to scale with impeccable attention to detail, exemplary quality and timeless class. One of the many professional honors Howard received during his life that was special to him was the role of 2001 President of The North Florida Builders Association (NEFBA). Howard was a man of character who earned a well-deserved and impeccable reputation. He created opportunities for others and fostered connections with colleagues who became lifelong friends that were like family. Howard loved giving back and helping others, particularly building homes for those less fortunate, and did so with NEFBA, City Rescue Mission, Habitat for Humanity and Builders Care, to name a few. Howard was a longtime member of Deerwood Country Club and was an avid golfer. He thoroughly enjoyed his weekly golf outings, Wednesday night dinners at the club and Thursday "hazy" lunches with his dear friends. Howard loved deeply, first and foremost, his Lord and Savior. He had a very strong faith and was a member of First Baptist Church for many years and, since 2013, attended the Church of Eleven22. Howard loved his three boys Ronnie, Brian and Jason, and the joy they brought to his life. He loved to reminisce about the family trips they would take while the boys were growing up, the boys' neighborhood pranks while living in Deerwood, not allowing the boys to touch his perfectly styled hair, his love of of cars and owning 96 brand new automobiles during his lifetime many the color white! Being a grandfather to nine grandchildren and great-grandfather to three was such a gift to Howard. Howard always liked planning the White Family Reunions, summer and holiday parties, handling every single detail of the gathering so all the family could be together. Howard and his beloved wife, Lissie, honored and treasured one another and their marriage. Howard adored her son, Trip, like his own. Combining Howard's passion for helping others and Lissie's passion for helping those with special needs, the couple opened Bitty & Beau's Coffee in November of 2022. Howard's legacy will live on through the coffee shop, the special needs community, the building community, his family and his many friends. A Celebration of Howard's Life will be on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at 3:00 p. m. at the Church of Eleven22, located at 14286 Beach Blvd. , Jacksonville, FL 32250.Show more

The eldest son of four children born in Chicago, Illinois to William Carr Smith Sr. and Emily Waldruff Smith, he attended schools in Calumet City, Illinois. At Thornton Fractional North High School, he played trumpet in the band, ran track, and played some football. He always said he usually got in the game when they were certain it wouldn't affect the outcome. Track was more his forte. After graduating from high school, he went to Southern Illinois University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. While attending SIU he married fellow student Diana S. Haehnel. They had three children before later divorcing. Carr attended the University of Chicago where he obtained a Master of Arts in English. In his fifties he got his law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law and went to work at the Public Defender's office as a criminal defense attorney. Later he worked at Jacksonville Area Legal Aid assisting with landlord/tenant issues and representing persons with disabilities against state agencies to protect their benefits. The change in career dovetailed with a strong belief in public service, social justice, fairness, equality and just sincerely wanting to help people. He met and married Joy Sargent during this period. As a man of deep faith, Carr was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church attending churches where he lived including Woods Memorial in Severna Park, MD as well as Riverside Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, for several years. He worked on many volunteer missions to provide aid after natural disasters and with Habitat for Humanity. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors, camping, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking, not to mention live music concerts. Memorable canoe camping trips included the Boundary Waters in Minnesota and the Okefenokee Swamp in GA. If there was a folk, acoustic, bluegrass or gospel concert happening in town, he tried to be there. He also sang in the St. Augustine Community Chorus. After retirement he was on various Sierra Club committees working to protect the environment and prevent abuse of natural resources. He and his wife Joy took trips to Ireland, the UK, and a road trip up the east coast to Canada. Any trip included exploration of backroads but not always on purpose.
