Sue Wamble Wax, a resident of Dothan, died Monday, September 11, 2023 at Flowers Hospital. She was 77. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at Evergreen Presbyterian Church with Reverend Andy Casto-Waters officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 PM until 1:45 PM in the Parlor prior to the service. Sue was born on October 14, 1945, in Wren, Mississippi to Henry Edward and Mary Elizabeth Dollar Wamble. A 1963 graduate of Amory High School, she then attended Wood Junior College and Mississippi State University where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Secondary Education in 1967. Later she received her Masters Degree of Education in English at Troy University Dothan. She was a passionate and dedicated educator for over 33 years. For most of her career she worked as a 7th grade English teacher at Honeysuckle Middle School, where she also served as the sponsor for the cheerleading program for 10 years. She was active in the Newcomers Club and Beta Sigma Phi. Additionally, she was president of the Southeast Alabama Dance Company for a term and worked on their production team for 25 years. She was a member of Evergreen Presbyterian Church where she was involved in Youth Fellowship and the Food Pantry. At the beginning of her freshman year in college, Sue met the love of her life, Buddy Wax. They were married for 56 years and shared many adventures and enjoyed traveling together. She had a passion for the beach, a good party and was a lifelong reader who always had a book in hand. Sue loved her family and friends dearly, especially her "Inner Circle" girlfriends. Sue is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Eddie Wamble. Survivors include her husband, John D. "Buddy" Wax; children, Stephanie Beckett (Bill), John W. Wax (Daniel Sears), grandchildren, Wells Beckett (Kate), Katie Bunge (John), Henry Beckett and Emily Beckett; great grandchildren, Colbie Beckett, Wells Beckett, Lou Lou Beckett, Jack Bunge, George Bunge and Alice Bunge; three special nieces, Kathy Nerren, Kaye Hannaford and Amy Williamson. Her family would like to thank Dr. Doug Jackson and his nurses, Tammi and Connie, Barbara Sheppard with FirstLight, the many nurses and medical staff on 4S and 6N at Flowers Hospital, Extendicare and Covenant Hospice for the exceptional care and kindness given to Sue during her illness.

Born on June 29, 1947, in Marietta, Georgia, Joyce spent her early years enveloped in the warmth of a close-knit family and community that shaped her into the remarkable woman she became. Joyce, the daughter of the late James T. Bryant and Corine H. Deavers, grew up alongside her sisters, Doris A. Campbell (John) and Carolyn B. Norrell (Charles), weaving a tapestry of memories that would last a lifetime. Her family circle expanded when she married the late, Richard Green, the love of her life, and together they nurtured a family that became her pride and joy. Joyce's nurturing spirit continued to flourish as she became "Grammy" to her adored grandchildren, Lauren Murphree, Matthew Murphree (Kimberly), Mary Olivia Christenson, and Cooper Christenson. Joyce's legacy is carried on by her devoted daughters, Tammy L. Murphree (Chris) and Robyn Susanne Christenson, who reflect her nurturing nature and loving heart. Her family extended to include a sister-in-law, Susan Hebert, and brothers-in-law, David Green and Edward Green, along with many loving nieces and nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply. A graduate of Sprayberry High School, Joyce's dedication and punctuality became hallmarks of her professional life as a bank teller at Cotton States Credit Union. Her work was not just a job but a means to connect with her community and serve others with her ever-present smile and helpful demeanor. Joyce's interests were a mirror of her life--filled with warmth, love, and the joy of simple pleasures. She was a culinary enthusiast who loved to cook, sharing her dishes with friends and family, creating moments of togetherness around the dinner table. Joyce's love for her children and grandchildren was paramount, and she embraced her role as "Grammy" with every ounce of her being. After moving from Marietta, Georgia, to Dothan, Alabama, in 2016, Joyce continued to nurture her faith as a devoted member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church in Marietta, where she cherished her Sunday school class. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and comforting her through life's trials and tribulations. A fan of the simple joys in life, Joyce relished in shopping sprees, baking, and cooking. Her enthusiasm for college football and the Atlanta Braves was infectious, bringing excitement and camaraderie to any gathering. Joyce's punctuality was legendary--a reflection of her respect for others and the value she placed on time spent with loved ones. The words that best describe Joyce--loving, kind, and generous--only begin to capture the essence of a woman whose presence was a gift to all who knew her. Her warmth and generosity extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of everyone she met with a gentle grace that will be profoundly missed. Joyce's life was a beautiful testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds. Her spirit, characterized by compassion and selflessness, will continue to resonate in the hearts of those she leaves behind. A graveside service will be held at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery in Marietta, Georgia on Friday, December 8, 2023 at 11:30 am EST. Mr. Paul Eugene "Paulie" Simmons Jr. , a resident of Ozark, died Sunday evening December 3, 2023 at Southeast Health in Dothan surrounded by his family. He was 56 years old. Funeral services for Mr. Simmons will be 2:00 P. M. Thursday, December 7, 2023 from Ozark Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Eric Fuller officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends Thursday in the church from 12:30 P. M. until service time. Mr. Simmons was born January 30, 1967 in Ozark, Alabama. Paulie graduated from Carroll High School in 1985 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Troy University in Dothan. He was a social worker with the Department of Human Resources in Dale County and Henry County for many years. Mr. Simmons was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in the Bertha Community. Paulie was a selfless person, a devoted father, brother, son and grandfather who loved his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Eugene Simmons, Sr. ; maternal grandparents, Rex and Lola Payne; and his paternal grandparents, Gus and Pauline Simmons. Survivors include two sons, Jake Simmons (Amanda) and Jesse Lee (Jaci) ; his mother, Jayne Payne Simmons; one sister, Beverly Jackson (Dr. Doug Jackson); and one brother, Ashley Simmons (Jerri Ann Simmons); grandchildren, Jackson Paul "Jack" Simmons and Charlotte Ray "Lottie" Lee. Antwan Shonquez Register, known affectionately as Twan to his family and friends, left this world far too soon at the age of 19. Born on May 4, 2004, in Dothan, Alabama, Twan was a beacon of light and joy in the lives of those who knew him. Tragically, his life was cut short on November 22, 2023, in his hometown of Dothan. Twan was the beloved son of Tequila Rumph and Torey Register. He grew up in a bustling household alongside three brothers and four sisters, where the bonds of family were deeply woven into the fabric of his life. Twan's role as a brother, uncle, and grandson was one he cherished with all his heart, and his presence brought an irreplaceable warmth to every family gathering. A proud graduate of Dothan High School's class of 2022, Twan's academic journey was marked by the same enthusiasm and dedication he brought to all aspects of his life. His educational achievements were a source of pride for his family and a testament to his determination and intelligence. Twan was a young man of many passions. His love for music could be felt in the rhythm of his steps and the joy in his voice when he sang along to his favorite tunes. Sports provided an outlet for his competitive spirit and a way to bond with friends and family, cheering on their favorite teams and celebrating every victory with gusto. Traveling opened up new worlds to Twan, feeding his adventurous soul and expanding his understanding of the world and its diverse cultures. Above all, Twan was a person who cherished the simple pleasure of being with his loved ones. Whether it was a quiet evening at home or an impromptu adventure, his generosity and wisdom shone through in the way he cared for those around him. Georgia "Charlotte" Robinson Higgins was born January 3, 1959, in Bingen am Rhein Germany. Her parents were the late Willard Robinson and Ethel Robinson. She confessed Christ at an early age and united with North Highland Baptist Church. Later she united with Patterson Street Freewill Baptist Church. She primarily grew up in Dothan, Alabama and was a graduate of Dothan High School. In 1987 she was united in Holy Matrimony to Bennie J. Higgins. To this union two sons were born. Charlotte was vivacious with a charismatic personality and profound sense of humor. She almost never met a stranger. She was also kind, generous and always willing to help anyone in need. She departed this life on Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama. Her beloved grandson, Jeremiah Cashmere Higgins and a very dear friend, Rev. Warren Reynolds preceded her in death. Charlotte was a member of an incredibly special large, blendedfamily who loved her dearly and unconditionally. Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory: two devoted sons, Justin W. L. Higgins ( Dorothy ) and Jeremy W. H.
