Steven "Earl" Jones, 67, of Tipp City, left his earthly home on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He was born May 8, 1956, in Dayton, the son of the late Jesse and Gladys (Wright) Jones. Steve retired in 2021 from Dayton Phoenix Group. He dedicated and committed his time to helping his wife run her business, DJ's Chill 'n Grill. He impacted the customers with his smile, laugh and sense of humor. Steve was a member of Brandt Evangelical Lutheran Church, serving as a member of the church choir. He was a loyal, hardworking, selfless family man, who supported his family in everything he did. Steve is survived by his wife of 41 years Diana Lynn Jones; daughter Alyssa Jones; brother Jesse K. Jones; sisters Patricia Barnett, Diane (Roger) Holcomb, and Linda Hoover; nieces Michelle, Samantha, Olivia, Jenna, Jennifer, Holly and Leslie; and nephew Christopher. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Terry Jones; nephew Joshua Holcomb; and brother-in-law Jerry Hoover. A farewell gathering will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 5-8pm at Brandt Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6870 U. S. 40, Tipp City, OH 45371. A funeral service to honor Steve will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 1:00pm at the Church. Burial will follow at New Carlisle Cemetery. Gary Lee Barger was born May 28, 1939 on his grandfather's farm in Wood County, Ohio to Francis (Bud) Barger and Anna Ruth (Conrad) Barger. He married Rose Ann Gonyer in 1959 sharing 64 years of marriage. He is survived by four children, Lawrence (Larry and Brenda), Steven and Gretchen and Pamela all of Springfield and Linda and Vince Shuler of London, Ohio. Also 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, brother James of Findlay, Ohio. Gary graduated from Findlay High School, attended Findlay College, received a Bachelor' Degree from the University of Cincinnati and a Master's Degree in Vocational Administration from Kent State. He taught machine shop, industrial math, science and apprenticeship, becoming department head at Sidney High School. He became an intern with the Ohio Department of Education and Supervisor of Trade and Industrial Education at Springfield JVS retiring at the age of 51. He then served as a GED examiner for the State of Ohio for 9 years. He co-founded the Western Ohio Vocational Association and later the Ohio Trade and Industrial Education Association, serving a President. He was also a consultant to the Ohio State Vocational Department serving on the North Central Association of High School Review Committees and was Co-chair of Pride Review for Vocational Departments at Midwest Vocational Schools. Gary was named person of the week by a local radio station as well as a presenter at National Vocational Association Convention. He was a lifetime member of Ohio Retired Teachers as well as Ohio Vocational Association and American Vocational Association. He was a member of: National Honor Society, Iota Lamba Fraternity at University of Cincinnati. Served as Education Secretary of American Legacy Association. He was honored by the state for dedication to vocational education and by several joint vocational school classes for supporting them. Gary served as a teacher, administrative board president, trustee and lay leader at Emory Chapel United Methodist Church. He was also a former Gideon. Gary liked to travel, visiting Europe, and many states including Hawaii twice. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He and Rose spent countless evenings playing cards and dominos with a great group of friends for many years. Family and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 from 5-7pm in the Lawrenceville Church of God, 3131 Fox Hollow Road, Springfield. A celebration of Gary's life will be held on Wednesday at 1:00pm in the church, Pastor Alan Cain officiating. Entombment will be in the Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum. Jaynie Lorene Fryer Wigger passed away on November 28th, 2023. She was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on March 11th, 1960, the daughter of Robert L. Fryer and Helen L. (Maloney) Fryer. A 1978 graduate of Tecumseh High School, Lorene worked as a marketing/communications manager for Dayco Products, Inc. , The Reynolds and Reynolds Company, and The Globe Food Equipment Company. Recently she was employed as an office manager for Universal Torch Cutting as well as a cashier at Rocky's Ace Hardware in Park Layne. She is survived by her husband John Wigger(Medway) brother Ron Fryer (Michelle) of Los Angeles, CA, her niece Alexandria Fryer of Honolulu, HI, Uncle Wayne Maloney of Lewisburg, WV, Aunt Gracie Arbogast (William) of Wellsburg, WV. She is also survived by many cousins Vicki Mazeika (Terry) of Follansbee, WV, Don Maloney (Karen) of Oakdale, PA, Kevin Maloney (Willow) of Wellsburg WV, Michael Maloney of Henderson, NV, Brenda Maloney Thomas of Fla, Sheila Maloney of White Sulphur Springs, WV, Heather Hanna Of Lewisburg, WV, Becky Cruny (Todd) of Follansbee, WV, Janice Hess (Erik) of Frederick, MD, Randy "Fritz" Fryer of Tyler, TX, Janet Fryer Bodnar of Pittsburgh, PA, and Richard Fryer of Wellsburg, WV. Whitacre, Michael J. , 82, passed away on November 27 at Forest Glen Health Campus. Michael was born on February 17, 1941 to Joseph and Mary Catherine Whitacre. He was a 1959 graduate of Catholic Central High School where he met his beloved wife, Sherry Hannon, with whom he would share 58 years of marriage. In 1963, Michael graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy. Together with his brother Joe, he owned and operated Whitacre’s Pharmacy on East Main Street for over 40 years, humbly serving the local community that his father and grandfather had served before him. In addition to his wife whom he lost in 2020, Michael was preceded in death by his daughter, Jamie Rape, in 2017. He is survived by 3 children, Mike (Sue) Whitacre of Little Rock, Arkansas, Lisa (Jeff) Flores of Springfield, and Shane Whitacre of Columbus; 11 grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Whitacre, Abby (Ted) Womble, Madeline Whitacre, Stephen Valley, Seth, Adam and Noah Rape, Connor, Payton, Keegan and Bradie Whitacre; 2 great-grandchildren, Bailey and Brody Whitacre; brothers, Joe (Gretchen) Whitacre and Steven (Connie) Whitacre; sisters, Christine Wissinger and Rene (Ralph) Talkers; brother-in-law, Mickey (Marilyn) Hannon; sister-in-law, Patty DeWine; as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Michael was a lifelong member of St. Bernard Parish. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed playing cards and golf with his friends, watching sports, particularly college football, and listening to his favorite music on his iPad. Steven Andrew Scott 74 of Springfield Ohio, passed away in Louisville Kentucky Sunday November 26, 2023. He was born January 19, 1949, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of the late John Warwood Scott and Myrtle Elizabeth (Hicks Sleater). He graduated from West High school in Salt Lake City, Utah, Clark Tech College and Urbana University. His first job was a concessions vendor for car races at the fairgrounds. He became a Marine and did multiple tours in Vietnam on the Canberra. On March 31, 1973, he married his sweetheart, Jennifer Ann Spriggs. He spent many years as a truck driver which strengthened his love of seeing the country. He worked at Youngs Jersey Dairy and spent time as a lifeguard. He spent 28 years working at Appleton Paper Mill. He is the longest standing official for GSBOA officials Association having spent 43 years as an Umpire and Referee. Dad had a love of working with wood. He spent his days making beautiful one of a kind cutting boards. Farming has been close to his heart since moving to Ohio, having a love and respect for animals. He has travelled the world. His gardening resulted in a large vegetable garden that provided plenty of food for his family. His cooking and rose gardens resulted in many ribbons awarded at the fair. Sunday dinners supported his love of cooking and spending time with his family. He loved the hobbies and interests of his kids. One of his famous lines was "You want a piece of me?" Left to cherish Steven's memory is his children Sarah (Brian) Bailey, Jacob (Lilly) Scott, Jonah Scott, Rebecca (Drew) Schrader, Elizabeth "Bubba" (Ethan) Spivey. Grandchildren: Josh, Caleb, Malachi, Kezia, Ezekiel, Kaylynn, Carter, Maxwell, and Theodore. Brothers Frank Brydson, John Scott and Sister Diane Staten. Steven was proceeded in death by his wife Jennifer March 17, 2023, Children: Jonathan Andrew Scott and Ann Elain Scott-Ingram. Schiller "Ray" Thomas Jr. , 80, of Springfield, Ohio passed away on November 24, 2023. He was born in South Charleston, Ohio on March 7, 1943 to his parents Schiller R. and Hazel B. (Miller) Thomas Sr. Ray leaves behind a legacy of courage and camaraderie and passion for his family and friends. Ray graduated from Southeastern High School coining the nickname "Babe" while playing football and running track during his time there. Ray enlisted in the United States Army and was dedicated soldier for many years. His dedication to duty and commitment to defending our freedoms earned him respect and admiration of all who knew him. Ray was a hardworking man who retired from Navistar after 38 years of service. He loved and enjoyed spending time with his family, he was loved by many but the most by his grandchildren who affectionately called him Pawpaw. Pawpaw gave all of his grandchildren nicknames. Beyond his military service, he was known for loving football, especially Ohio State and the Vikings. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling and hunting. His skill and sportsmanship gained him numerous friends. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Joyce "Crunch" Thomas his children Karen Rae Thomas, Darnell L. Scott, Kimara A. Thomas Carey, Christopher W. and wife Amy L. Thomas, Netra L. Thomas and one brother Donald L. Thomas, nineteen grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, extended family and friends, and his beloved fur baby Arrow. He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and brother-in-law Norma Jean and Leonard Lee Martin, one nephew Ricky Lee Martin, one sister in law Vivian F. Thomas, two nieces Melissa Berdina, Mary Frances Thomas and one great nephew Anthony Richardson Jr. , and two great granddaughters Reyah Ann Thomas Green and Bianca LaShae Scott. David LeRoy Day, a respected lawyer who dedicated nearly 50 years of his life to the legal profession in the Columbus, Ohio area, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Springfield, Ohio on November 26, 2023. He was born on November 30, 1932, in Springfield, Ohio the son of the late James and Ethel (Adams) Day. David achieved remarkable milestones throughout his illustrious career. Always furthering his education, he received his A. B from Anderson University and went on to earn an M. Ed from Wittenberg University. He further pursued his passion for law and graduated from the Ohio State University College of Law. With his immense knowledge and expertise, David served as a lawyer for almost half a century. While David had a successful legal career, he had other passions that brought him joy outside the courtroom. Farming held a special place in his heart as he ran his own small farm starting in the 1980s. Additionally, he owned and flew his own plane, showcasing his adventurous spirit and love for aviation. David is remembered as a loving family man who deeply cared for those closest to him. He leaves behind cherished memories with his wife of 33 years, Terri Lynn Day. Together they built a life filled with love and support. David's legacy continues through his children: Douglas (Marcie) Day, Dedra (Bob) Allomong, David (Denna) Day and Victoria (Jerry) Gilliland. In addition, David leaves behind a rich network of family and friends who will miss him dearly. His siblings include Judy Lewis, Philip (Glenna) Day, and Sharon (James) Harwood. His brothers, James (Geraldine) Day and Paul (Joyce) Day preceded him in death. David's memory lives on through the generations as he is remembered by his grandchildren: Shawn Gilliland, Andy Gilliland, Ryan Gilliland, Rayven Day, Rebekkah Day, Kairee Allomong, Meghan Eastep, Logan Day, and Dylan Day. He was also blessed with five great-grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, David is survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marvalyn Steggemann, David Secrist and Deana (Paul) Gram and several nieces and nephews. Their cherished bond exemplified the importance of family connections in David's life. A visitation will take place on December 1, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jackson Lytle And Lewis Life Celebration Center in Springfield, Ohio.
