Steven M. Damato, 60, formerly of Berlin, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on May 6, 2023 in Washington, New Hampshire. He was born in Hartford, CT, son of Janice (Barber) Mastropasqua and the late Joseph J. Damato. He was a member of St. Paul's Church in Kensington, CT. He graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1981 and continued onto technical school to become a diesel mechanic. He later became a Snap-On Tools dealer and finished his career in the aerospace industry at Kaman Aerospace and Cambridge Specialty, Inc. He was a wrestling champ and played football in high school. He married his high school sweetheart, Cheryl. They devoted their lives to each other for 35 years. He was the dedicated father of their three children; Justin (Ashley) Damato, Sarah (Adam) Salwocki and Geoffrey Damato. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren; Arthur Salwocki and Ella Damato. He also leaves his best friend, Joseph Reynolds and his best canine friend, Max. In addition to his loving wife and adoring children, he leaves his mother, Janice (Frank) Mastropasqua; sisters Terri Bonfiglio, Bethann (Robert) Wadsworth and Bonnie (Jose) Torres. He also leaves his brothers David Damato and Joseph J. (Jennifer) Damato, Jr. ; mother-in-law, Pauline Severino, sisters-in-law, Armida Crowley, Clelia Severino, Elizabeth (Byron) Cole, and brother-in-law, Dominick R. Severino, Jr. He also leaves many treasured nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph J. Damato; his father-in-law, Dominick R. Severino; his aunt, Patricia (Barber) Gagnon, his aunt, Maryann (Damato) Bachand, brother-in-law, Kevin Crowley and niece, Karen (Crowley) Rullo. Steve was recruited as a cub scout leader early on in his children's lives. He soon became cub master of Pack 5 in Berlin, Ct. , leading not only his boys but many of their fellow boy scouts to the rank of Eagle. He devoted 18 years in boy scouting. Along the way, he met many of his closest friends. These friends among others accompanied him while he did some of his favorite things, including riding ATV's, boating and, most of all, snowmobiling. He did this in his favorite place on earth, Washington, New Hampshire where he passed. His loving daughter Sarah was his "princess. " She had a very special place in his heart. He never missed a soccer game, dance recital or choir and theater event. When she grew up he was her biggest supporter when she became a nurse and walking her down the aisle was a highlight in his life. Steve enjoyed fishing, campfires, shooting guns and working on mechanical and carpentry projects with his sons. His garage was one of his favorite places to be. Steve was a fun-loving guy who made friends with everyone. He would lend a hand to anyone that needed him. He was an avid bird watcher, loved astronomy, Sunday afternoon Giants football games and tending to his pool and hot tub. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 12th at 11:30 a. m. Directly in St. Paul Church 485 Alling St. Kensington. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 11 from 5 to 8 p. m. at Giuliano-Sagarino Funeral Home at BROOKLAWN, 511 Brook St. Rocky Hill. Burial will be held privately.
