Stephen J. "Gunny" Lewis, 63, of Cerro Gordo, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2023 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held at 3:30 PM, Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at Cerro Gordo American Legion Post 117, 220 Wait St, Cerro Gordo, IL military honors will be rendered at 4:30 PM by the US Marines and Cerro Gordo American Legion. A Celebration of Life will then be held at 5:30, Tuesday, at The Depot, 211 E South St. , Cerro Gordo, IL. Steve was born October 21, 1959 in Argenta, the son of Alva and Pauline (Kramer) Lewis. He married Debbie Wiseman, and she survives. Steve proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps, in the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion and stationed at: Camp Schwab, Okinawa; Air Station Miramar; and several posts in the Marine Corps Recruiting Command. Following his military career, Steve worked as a carpenter and a farmer. He enjoyed working with his hands and was known for his creativity in being able to build anything for anyone. He settled for part of his life in the Fowl River area of Alabama where he was a resident river rat. Steve enjoyed his Red, White and Blue 1979 Corvette which he entered in many parades and car shows. He also loved his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his children: Stephen (Aubri) Lewis, Jr. of York, PA, and Holly (David) Joiner of Trussville, AL; grandchildren: Dallin, Haydn, and Madelyn; and siblings: Joseph (Linda) Lewis of Carlinville, Mark (Teresa) Lewis of Decatur, and Susan (Gary) Perkins of Carlinville. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Lewis.

Sean R. Lipka, 39, passed away unexpectedly on December 8, 2023 but to the outstretched waiting arms of his sister, Haley. Private family services will be held at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Home, Decatur with Pastor Mark Gearing officiating. Memorials in Sean’s honor may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, LSA, or Holy Family Catholic School. Sean went to Lutheran School Association, graduated from St. Teresa High School and then earned his bachelor’s degree from Millikin University. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He worked as a Laborer for Laborers Local 159, the same union as his father. He then worked as an operator at ADM. Sean was the light and life of our family and brought joy to everyone who knew him. He had a gift for making people feel loved and at ease with his smile and stories. His countless friends helped him during the time of his stroke and we will be forever grateful for that as he worked his way back from a paralyzing condition that would have defeated most people. His faith in God and his two precious sons, Landon and Grayson, kept him going. Those two boys were the focal point of his life and he never failed to tell them how much he loved them and how proud he was of them! Sean will be forever missed by surviving members of his family including his mother and father, Vicki and Kenny Baker; his sons: Landon Lipka and Grayson Lipka; his brother and wife: Dr. Seth and Kholoud Lipka; sister and husband: Nicole and Tracey Horner; and sister, Ashley Baker. He was loved by many cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a little mini Austrian Shepherd puppy just adopted, Bella Jo. Sean was greeted in heaven by his sister, Haley; father, Wally Lipka; cousin, Danny Hartwick; and grandparents and other relatives who predeceased him. He’ll also be joining his buddies: Kyle, Tony, and Matt. The summers he spent playing softball sponsored by The Wharf with his buddies were some of the best of his life. Willie Lee Pryor was born on May 28, 1941, in Holly Springs, Ms. He was the second of four children born to Jessie Pryor and Fannie Martin Pryor, both of whom preceded Willie in death. As a young man, Willie moved to the Southside of Chicago in 1966 in search of better opportunities. For more than 40 years, he worked for SkyChefs--the catering arm of American Airlines. Throughout his career, Willie traveled extensively around the country and earned a number of progressively advanced positions with the airline. Starting out as a food coordinator, Willie worked as a senior truck driver, a trainer, and was promoted to the position of a licensed Commercial Driver's License program examiner for the state of Illinois before retiring. It was while working for American Airlines that Willie met the love of his life and best friend, Velma Wilson Pryor. After Willie wooed and won Velma over with his charming ways, cooking skills, and air-conditioned apartment, the two were married on Oct. 17, 1975. They were inseparable until God called him home. Together, they raised their two children, Shelith and LaDarryl in Hazelcrest. Willie loved to sing and was a faithful member of the award-winning inspirational singing group, the Gospel Soul Revivals. He and his brother Harry traveled the country singing gospel, for more than 60 years. Ministering and singing about the goodness of God was their passion!Through his travels with his job, his singing group and family, Willie had the opportunity to work with and meet hundreds of people. He was a man who never met a stranger. He could count among his many friends and acquaintances people from all walks of life--from the famous to everyday folks. He was kind, open and generous to all. Willie was a loving husband, and a wonderful father, brother, uncle, grandfather, mentor and friend. Willie was an ardent volunteer and community activist. During the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s, he courageously took part in Freedom Rides and later served on several political campaigns, such as the mayoral campaign for Chicago's first Black mayor, Harold Washington. He also worked very closely with Rev. Jesse Jackson on Operations Breadbasket and PUSH. He was a dedicated civil servant. In 2008, Willie served as a volunteer for the presidential campaign for the then-junior senator from the state of Illinois, Barack Obama. Willie spent time transporting volunteers and canvassing throughout Illinois and neighboring states to get Obama elected. One of Willie's proudest civic moments was traveling to the nation's capital with his family to witness the inauguration of President Obama!After relocating to Decatur with Velma in 2018 to be closer to family, Willie continued to serve in his new community. He became a "grandparent" with Youth With a Positive Direction, where he provided transportation for children to and from the program, and offered mentoring and grandfatherly support until his passing. Willie treasured his time with family, and his grandkids meant the world to him. They knew him as "Papaw. " He bought a van, "the trolley," expressly for the many road trips the family took together, making fond and cherished memories over the years and miles. Willie was a great driver and looked forward to traveling with his family on vacations, fishing trips and just hanging out. He also was a man of faith who loved his church family. As was a member of All Nations/Freedom Church for more than 25 years where he served as an usher. Once he relocated to Decatur, Willie joined Main Street Church of the Living God and was an active and faithful servant. Willie was preceded in death by both of his parents and his brothers, Harry and James. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 48 years Velma; daughters, Shelith (Kenneth) Hansbro of Decatur, Ill. , and Vanessa (Lawrence) Coleman of Memphis, Tenn. ; a son, LaDarryl (Beverly) Pryor of Harvey, Ill. ; a sister, Jessie Mae (William) Ayers, of Holly Springs, Miss. ; grandchildren, Courtney, Justin, Kendyll and Kennedy Hansbro, Evan Gary, Tiana and Imani McGill, Corry Rambert and Nakesha Driver; Godson, Marcus Quinn; best friend and brother-in-law, the Rev. Sam Wilson; special friend and Pastor Overseer Thomas Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.Show more

Janet was born May 27, 1938, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Loren and Alice (Edwards) Goodpaster. She married William R. "Bill" Zellars on October 4, 1957. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2017. Janet spent her working career as a Bank Teller for Mt. Zion State Bank. She enjoyed serving her loyal bank customers. Janet was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved music and playing the piano and would also play at church for services. Janet's greatest joy was spending time with her family. Helen Anna (Riddle) Smith 94, of Decatur, IL went home to be with Jesus on December 3rd, 2023. She peacefully entered Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior. Helen was born on March 24, 1929, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Earl and Frances (Morris) Riddle. She married the love of her life, Arthur Elwood Smith on August 5, 1943. Their faithful and enduring love was celebrated by 76 years of marriage. Mom had a sweet, simple, and caring nature. She was known for her gentle, kind, and loving spirit. Helen's life was marked by her steadfast devotion to her Lord, her husband Art, and her four children: Art Jr. , Ann, Linda, and Ron. Mom had many trials in her life like all of us do. Her love and trust in the Lord gave her peace and strength to get through these many trials. The loss of two of her children (Art Jr. and Ann) was very hard on her but with God's help she continued on her life's journey with her "new normal. "She was very close to her brother, Red and she missed him very much after he passed away. She had a special place in her heart for her niece, Julie Turner and family. She also loved her son-in-law's Monte and David. Helen is survived by her daughter: Linda Riley (Monte) of Mt. Zion; son: Ronald Smith (Rhonda) of Stonington; nine grandchildren: Shellie, Angie, Ronnie, Terry, Joel, Laura, Anna, Ashley, and Nathan. She leaves several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Art on October 19, 2019; son: Art Jr. ; daughter Frances Ann Campbell; parents, brothers: Red, Don, and Leonard. It is very hard to say goodbye to such a lovely lady. You are my best friend and I Love you more than all the stars in the sky - Linda.
