"Stephen J. Kempf Jr. of Berkeley Twsp. Passed away September 4, 2023 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. Steve was intimately involved in the field of public safety holding positions where he directed offsite emergency preparedness activities for Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station and later at the engineering firm of Mott, Hatch \u0026amp; McDonald. Prior to his retirement, Steve served as Regional Director for FEMA's Regional II office under the Department of Homeland Security where he oversaw operations in New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands holding top level meetings with other FEMA officials including the then President of the United States, George H. W. Bush. Steve was a lifelong member of the Breton Woods Fire Department where he served with distinction for many years rising to the level of Fire Commissioner. It was with the Fire Department when he was injured in 1976 which cause him to experience many years of rehabilitation and recuperation from his injuries. During this time Steve participated in the Para-Olympics capturing a Gold and Silver Medals in archery and shotput competitions. Steve's on-going recuperation prompted him to return to playing his guitar and singing/performing. Other interests included the Model Railroaders Club, Vintage Buick Club, and the Big Brothers of America Club where he mentored and supported youths from around the area. Steve and his first wife, Rosemary, were active members at St. Luke's Church, Toms River, and previous to that, St. Dominic's in Brick. He further professed and enhanced his faith by his active membership in the Knights of Columbus, and as a U. S. Navy veteran, joined The American Legion supporting his veteran brothers and sisters. He loved to be funny and sarcastic, cracking jokes and being part of shenanigans with his brothers and friends. Although his injuries remained with him for his lifetime, he never allowed them to limit his flair for having fun, traveling, or his passion for helping others. Steve was predeceased by his first wife, Rosemary, after 48 happy years of marriage. He later found love again with his marriage to Danielle Toutoux for the remaining six years of his life. As a citizen of France, Danielle would return to France regularly and sadly passed away herself while in France recuperating from surgery. Steve is survived by his brothers, John Kempf and his wife Josephine, and Bill Kempf and his wife Eileen. He leaves behind his nieces Donna Kempf, Christine Spurling and Carey Hart, Toni Guzman and Judy Vaughan, and his nephews Jason Kempf and Matthew Kempf, and numerous great and grand nieces and nephews. "The Dear Lord called our Annette home on December 05, 2023, Annette was born on October 22, 1951 in Jersey City. She married Salvatore Tarsia August 08, 1982. They have resided in Brick, NJ for 36 years. She worked as the office manager at Omni Trade in Freehold, NJ for over 30 years. Annette was an amazing person. She was a devoted wife and faithful friend. Annette worshipped our Lord and valued the fellowship she shared with family, friends and strangers. She was a kind, generous soul who would do anything for anyone. All you needed to do was pick up the phone and she would be there for you immediately. Annette adored her dogs Ginger and Rosie more than anything in the world. She had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. You could always count on her to have the whole room cracking up with her stories and theatrics to go along with them. She loved entertaining during the summer and if you ever left her house hungry it was your own fault. She will be missed tremendously but we are truly blessed to have an angel like Annette watching over us. Filadelfio "Fred" Carbonetto, also known as "Pop" and "Nonno Pop," 86, of Toms River, NJ, peacefully passed away on December 2, 2023 surrounded by the love and prayers of his family. Filadelfio was born on November 1st, 1937 to Alfio and Anna Carbonetto in the small town of San Fratello, Sicily. He moved his family to Varese, Italy in 1962 and then to The Bronx, NY in 1966. They finally settled in Toms River, NJ in 1975. Filadelfio is predeceased by his first son Alfio and brother Joseph. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Maria and four dear sons Alfio, Francesco and wife Dawn, Anthony and wife Karen and Filadelfio Jr. and wife Dawn. His life was blessed with five grandchildren, Alfio, Christina Lassik and husband Greg, Gabriella, Nicolette, Nicholas and four beautiful great grandsons. He is also survived by four siblings in Northern Italy, brothers Benedetto, Cirino and wife Giovanna, Salvatore and wife Sarina, and sister Maria and husband Salvatore, as well as many nieces and nephews. At an early age, Filadelfio learned the value of hard work, mastering the art of stone masonry and providing for his family. At 19 years old he entered and served in the Sicilian Regiment of the Italian Armed Forces. After moving to the United States in 1966, he was part of the Stone Mason Union in The Bronx, NY. Eventually, he began working for the NJ Turnpike, and later for the Toms River School System. Throughout his entire life, Filadelfio was a family man. He was passionate about his garden and loved sharing his homemade wine with family and friends over a game of Scopa. Dolores Bernadette Lewis, 86 of Toms River, NJ passed away December 2, 2023, surrounded by family. Dolly was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on April 2, 1937, the daughter of Alexander and Bertha Romanow. Dolly married her husband, Peter Lewis, on June 20, 1959. As a long-time resident of Toms River for the past 60-years, Dolly was an active member of her community. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Parish in Toms River. She devoted many years to community and volunteer service. Dolly served on the Ocean County College Board of Trustees from 1985 to 2009. She chaired Paul Kimball Hospital's Mansion in the Park fundraiser in 1982. Served as president of the Rosary Alter Society at St Joseph's Parish. Dolores decorated St Joseph's church for Christmas and Easter for many years. Among notable achievements, Dolly was awarded the Monmouth Ocean Development Council Distinguished Achievement award for Outstanding service in 1982; Ocean County Girl Scouts Annual Award in 1987; Catholic Charities Diocese of Trenton Light of Hope Award, 1998; St. Joseph's Parish Century Club, honoree for Outstanding Service to the Parish Community, 2001. She also volunteered with Providence House of Catholic Charities, a program that helps women and children who have been victims of domestic violence. More recently, she helped with fundraising for the Semper Five race, that benefits Marines and Sailors and families who have lost their lives or been seriously injured . She also volunteered with Interfaith Hospitality with St. Joseph, securing donations for homeless families staying in the parish house. Dolly built and co-managed a dental practice with her husband, Dr. Peter Lewis, in Howell, NJ from 1964 until their retirement in 2007. She graduated from Farleigh Dickenson University in 1957 with an Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene. She was an accomplished cook, talented designer of all things, loved gardening and spending time with her grandsons. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Peter Lewis, in addition to their children, Peter and Pamela; her brother Bill and his wife Lori; her nieces and nephews Suzanne, Maureen, Kayte, Judy, Billy, Joe, and Greg. She has 4 grandchildren: Ryan, Teddy, Mikey, and Callahan, and 14 grand-nieces and nephews. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael Petrone, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend. Mike departed this world on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023, at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and cherished memories. Mike was born in 1954 in New Brunswick, spent his college years in Bridgeport Connecticut, his family life in North Brunswick, and the later years of his life in Seaside Park, NJ. Mike was larger than life; a true force of nature with an incredible sense of humor and an enormous heart. He was a firm believer in the importance of family; he adored his devoted wife Kelly whom he just celebrated 40 wonderful years with, and his children, Keri and Mark. He had an unwavering bond with his beloved siblings, Junior and Diane. He absolutely cherished his countless friends who spent life by his side. A dedicated sports fan, Mike passionately followed the Jets, Mets, and Rutgers teams. He loved celebrating the joys of life and surrounded himself with music and the love of his dogs - Smudge, Bailey, Burp and Sadie, throughout his life. Mike is survived by his loving wife Kelly, his children, Keri and Mark, their fiances Erik and Christen, his siblings Junior, Diane and Johnny, as well as his mother in-law Elizabeth, brothers in-law Tommy and Michael, sister in-laws Bridget and Valery, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Angelo and Rose Petrone. To honor Mike's life and share in the memories, a Memorial Service will be held at Ryan Funeral Home, located at 145 St. Catherine Blvd, Toms River, NJ, on Saturday, December 9th, from 1-4 PM.
