Stephen Ray Bain, a longtime Martinsville, Indiana resident, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023, at Franciscan Health Hospital in Indianapolis. He was one of nine children born to the late James and Lula (Creech) Bain on Sunday, May 29, 1949, in Martinsville, Indiana. Mr. Bain worked as a carpenter most of his life, although he retired from Kroger in Martinsville. He chose to receive Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was baptized at the Life of Love Church in Martinsville. He leaves behind a host of loving family including his wife of nearly 48 years, Betty Roxanne (Crowe) Bain of Martinsville. He and Betty were married on December 12, 1975. He also leaves behind three son Jamie and Corey Bain of Martinsville and Shawn Bain (wife, Angie) of Brooklyn, Indiana; three sisters, Donna Lawson (husband, Tim) of Clayton, Indiana, Eva Simpson of Shelbyville, Indiana and Norma Poe of North Carolina; five grandchildren, Devin and Dougie Bain, Tyler and Jordan Blondell and Bailey Callon; eight great grandchildren, Kamden, Lyviair, Landrey and Journey Callon and Joey, Amelia, Mason and Wrenlee Blondell and five sister in laws, Nancy Crowe (husband, Jerry) and Penny Daniels (finance, Allen Ball) of Brooklyn, Indiana, Ila Crowe of Patricksburg, Indiana, Gina Blondell (husband, JR) of Martinsville and Cathy Bain of Cloverdale, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gene, Charlie, and Bud Bain and two sisters, Mary Bain, and Helen Dilbone. In honoring his wishes, his earthly remains will be cremated, and his family will host a celebration of life service to be held at a later date.
