John L. Rouse Jr. , 63, of Lillington, NC, passed away unexpectedly on December 2, 2023. John "Lynd" was born on February 2, 1960, in Lenoir County, NC, to the late John L. Rouse and Peggy Rouse. He was a graduate of South Lenoir High School. He received his undergraduate degree at East Carolina University and his master's degree from Central Michigan University in Administration. He worked in the healthcare field for over 30 years, with 28 years of experience in Public Health. He served as the Health Director in Duplin and Sampson County and has been the Harnett County Health Director since 2003. He was the past President of the North Carolina Association of Local Health Directors and Harnett County United Way. He previously served on the NC Department of Labor, Farmers Safety Council, and FAHEC Board of Directors. He served on the East Carolina University School of Public Health Advisory Council, Campbell University PA/MPH Program Advisory Board, NC Local Health Department Accreditation Board, Southern Regional AHEC Board of Trustees, Harnett County Transportation Advisory Board, Harnett County Opioid Task Force, and State Employees Credit Union Advisory Board. He was the 2009 recipient of the North Carolina Public Health Association Reynolds Award, selected as the 2012 NCALHD Health Director of the Year, and 2019 recipient of the M. Keith Fearing, Jr. Community Health Sciences Award from Campbell University. Although he did so much professionally and for his community, he did so much more for his family. He loved spending time with his wife of 18 years, Monica, and their daughter Campbell. He was an amazing husband and father. He spent countless hours patiently sitting through many dance competitions and recitals watching Campbell dance. He was proud to be a dance dad. He also loved the few opportunities that she asked to go hunting with him, even though she slept most of the time. He was just happy to get a picture as proof to show his friends. John was an incredible son to his parents prior to their deaths. He spent countless hours these last few months making sure she was comfortable prior to her death. His favorite hobby was hunting, but he also appreciated a good cigar, loved a nice bowtie, and enjoyed any John Wayne movie. To the surprise of many, he also loved the Harry Potter marathons, Disney movies and music, Hallmark Christmas movies, bluegrass music, and sitting outside watching hummingbirds. John is survived by his wife Monica Rouse and daughter Campbell Rouse; stepdaughter Jennifer Denning; and sister Joy Rouse. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Memorial Baptist Church in Buies Creek, where John was a member. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Nathaniel Eady, 90, passed away at home with his daughter in Lillington on November 19, 2023. He was born September 30, 1933, to the late Hester Ross and Goerge Eady in Charleston, SC. He was married to the late Louise Cabbagestalk Eady. Nathaniel attended public school in Charleston, SC and at 17 years of age, enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. He served a few years before migrating to Newark, NJ. He worked as a foreman at Leslie Paper Company for many years before the company moved to Florida. He moved on to Remco where he met his wife, Louise. Nate then worked briefly with the railroad and then worked and retired from St. Michaels Hospital. Nathaniel was always an honest, patient, and loving man. Some people called him Nate and others the "Big Macroona. " He would always say "I Love You" before departing or getting off the telephone. His favorite was giving you the "thumbs up. " He loved his Buicks, Chryslers, bowling, and beer. Nathaniel started slowing down in 2017. A decision was made by his daughters to move him so he would not be alone. He moved to NC to live with his youngest daughter, Trina'. After turning 90, Nathaniel repeatedly said "I'm tired, this 90-year-old man is old. " Through it all he kept his huge appetite and still said every day, "I Love You", "Thank You" and he spoke to his wife. He will be missed but never forgotten. Nathaniel Eady was a man amongst men. Nathaniel is survived by his 2 daughters, Tauheedah Eady of Ghana, Africa and Trina' Eady of Lillington, NC, special niece, Cheryl D. Hill, host of nieces, nephews and friends. Daniel B. Andrews (Dan) passed away peacefully with family by his side November 28, 2023. Born on April 5th, 1934 son of Daniel Boone Andrews and Annie Wells Andrews in Chalybeate Springs, Harnett County where he was a lifelong resident. Dan was a lifetime farmer and dedicated his life to being an advocate and voice for agriculture and rural communities. He had a heart of service for Harnett County, and dedicated twenty years of his life as a Harnett County Commissioner, during which time he received The Order of the Long Leaf Pine. He served as the Director on the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners. He was a member of Harnett County Economic Development. Dan was also a member of Mid-Carolina Council of Government and received the M. H. "Jack" Brock Memorial Award. In addition, he was Harnett County's representative on the NC Capitol Area Metropolitan Organization. He also served Campbell University on the Board of Trustees and the Presidential Board of Advisors. During his service to Campbell he received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award. Dan's strength and love for family and friends were a blessing to all around him. He was a passionate outdoorsman and conservationist planting forests of pine trees for future generations. His love for God and family guided each of his days and is his lasting legacy. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joyce Prince Andrews, his sons William Daniel (Linda) Andrews, Anthony Boone Andrews, his granddaughters, Farra Andrews and Anna Andrews, sister Eunice Andrews Bland, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm, Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at the family farm 3146 Chalybeate Springs Road, Fuquay Varina, NC. Mary Ann LeTourneau, age 86, went to be with our Lord, November 14, in Lillington, NC, at the home of her daughter, Maureen Smith. She was surrounded by her loving family. Mary Ann was born in Alpena, MI on August 12, 1937, to Gerald and Loretta (McDougall) LaLonde. She was a 1955 graduate of Catholic Central High School. The secretary of her senior class and captain of the cheerleader squad, her motto was "Be prompt. Be good. " Which is ironic because she was good at being late. She attended Siena Heights University from 1955 to 1959 earning a Bachelor of Arts. She married the late Gerald LeTourneau June 18,1960. They were married for 18 years. Mary Ann taught 2nd grade for Ella White Elementary School in 1960-61. She resigned as a teacher to become a homemaker and raise their four children. She held a variety of jobs, including working at LaLonde Shoe Store, vocational and technical training of adults with disabilities, substitute teaching, working for Alpena Senior Citizen Center, home health care, where she was trained in hospice care, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a volunteer teacher of catechism for St. Bernard's Church. Mary Ann then focused on bringing joy and color into her grandchildren's lives through her many hobbies, such as watercolor art, playing the ukulele and singing. She enjoyed poetry, calligraphy, Bible study, watching Tigers baseball with her dear friend Joanne, traveling to visit her many friends and family. She practiced amateur meteorology, keeping her family updated on the current weather situation, no matter how many states away the events occurred. She is survived by her four children, Joe (Donya) LeTourneau of Ohio, Steve (Julie) LeTourneau of New Mexico, Maureen (Mark) Smith of North Carolina, Jane (Steve) Bailey of Alpena, brother in law Mike McGirr of Florida and Alpena, grandchildren Stephany and Daniel LeTourneau, Nicole and Blair Smith, Gabrielle (Jearrod) Fountain, Garret and Erin Bailey, great grandchildren Oden and Zoey Jabo and baby girl Fountain, due in March, many cousins, nieces, nephews and Godchildren. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald (Bud) and Loretta LaLonde, sister, Carole McGirr and grandchildren Justin and Dylan Bailey. The family will have a graveside memorial service at Holy Cross Cemetery, Alpena, MI in July 2024. Details will be announced at a later date.
