Normand Demers

Normand Demers

Age - 83

"Normand Demers (12/20/1939-11/27/23) Normand Demers, who was a lifetime resident of Lawrence, MA, graduate of Central Catholic High School, peacefully passed away on November 27th in the comfort of his family and loving wife, Lynda Demers, at the young age of 83. There are many fine qualities to describe him but one that stands out was his dedication. He not only lived in Lawrence for his whole life but was a member of it. He was a staple at the South Lawrence West baseball field, a longtime member of St. Patrick's Church and an active member of Lawrence ELK's. His dedication also extended to his country where he served in the Army Infantry from 1965 to 1969. Shortly after returning, he worked AT\u0026amp;T then Lucent Technology for over 20 years. Normand had a great appetite for life and enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and family. He loved Lynda more than anyone could imagine. He loved her companionship and they enjoyed just being together. They traveled together, whether it was going to Bermuda or a "short" road trip to Maine for breakfast. He was adored by his children and grandchildren. Every year he and Lynda took the family camping for a week, which was the best week of the year, minus the long car ride where he threatened to turn the car around at least twice. He loved to swim and play with the grandchildren and they loved being with him. When he arrived at the beach everyone would call his name. When the grandchildren heard or saw him they ran to him and pulled him every-which-way for they all wanted to play with him and he with them. He was always up for any sport related activity. You could find him playing horseshoes on the weekend, bowling at night or tearing up the dance floor. When he wasn't playing a sport you could find him playing a heated game of 45's with his family. No matter what he took part in, you knew he wanted to win but after every game he extended a firm handshake and a smile for he liked the competition more than the victory. Normand will be remembered for his love for life, his kind heart, his big laughter and his unwavering devotion to his family. He is survived by his wife Lynda Demers of 51 years, son Marc and his wife Samantha, his daughter Karen and her husband Mark, and son Daniel and wife Kristy along with eight loving grandchildren. His funeral mass was celebrated on Thursday, November 30th, 2023 at 11:00 a. m. in Saint Patrick\u0027s Church in Lawrence and his burial followed in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Lawrence, MA. John Dyke

Age - 68

November 28, 2023

"John Van Dyke, 68, of Lawrence MA, passed away on Friday November 15, 2023, at Lawrence General Hospital. Born in Temple, Texas, he was the son of the late Dr. John Van Dyke and Stephanie Mary (Pelczar) Van Dyke. John was a graduate of Lawrence High School and received his Bachelor's degree in finance from Merrimac College. Prior to his degree, John worked with computers at Wang, Picturtel, Polycom, and with investments at Fidelity. For many years he was a landlord to 9 housing units which foreshadows one of many George Bailey-like characteristics within him. He had his first born, a daughter, at 26 and his second born, a son, at 28. Fatherhood sparked John's kid-at-heart spirit. For over two decades, John outfitted the scariest trick-or-treat house in Lawrence and he lead his kids and their cousins to many haunted houses and hayrides. John was a superb Jack-o-lantern and costume makeup artist. Whether it be, adventures to Boston on the train, beaches in the rain, softball games for a decade, WWF wrestling events, guitar lessons, sledding, snowboarding, Broadway plays, and many First Nights, - John made the most of quality time and many happy memories. His daughter will forever remember him catching countless softball pitches "on" and "off" season. His son will remember the go-kart and elaborate train set he built with him. John made the best enchiladas; a tribute to his Texas roots. John learned how to fly Cessna airplanes and he had dreams to travel. He visited Peru, Barbados, Ireland, and Mexico during his life. John made friends wherever he went whether it be the workplace or a coffee shop. Extended family members who knew John as a kid and teenager fondly tell countless stories of John's practical jokes. His quirky humor and infectious laughter won way to the hearts of many dear friends and family. John was a do-it-yourselfer who could fix computers, cars, and houses. Throughout his life he could be found fixing his or families' appliances. The last 8 years of John's life, he courageously lived a "new normal" as a quadriplegic due to a spinal cord injury. He showed all those who cared for him the will to live and his humor shined bright through the concluding years of his injury exemplifying grace. John will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughter, Lauren Van Dyke of Nevada City, CA, son, Matthew Van Dyke of Lawrence, MA, sister, Karen Van Dyke and her husband, Jeff Freedman of San Diego CA, nieces, Regan Brown of New York and Rebecca Pagan of Lawrence, MA, aunt, Czesia Pelczar and cousins, Elizabeth Pelczar, Jamie Pelczar, former wife, Cheryl Mello of Lawrence, MA. Predeceased by his sister, Judith Brown. The family is planning a "Celebration of Life, Sorrow of Death (COLSOD)" held on his birthday Friday April 26th 2024. ""Show more
