"Sophia Stos (nee Kowalczyk), 98, of Toms River, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2023. Sophia was born and raised Wolfenstedt, Germany, and was repatriated back to Poland during World War II. She emigrated to the United States in 1960, living in Clifton for 6 years, then Wallington for 25 years, settling in Toms River in 1991. Sophia worked as a Quality Control Inspector for Hoffmann-La Roche in Nutley for over 25 years. Sophia was a parishioner of Most Sacred Heart of Jesus R. C Church. She always stayed very active throughout her life, she found joy in everything from working in the garden to maintaining her home. Sophia was the beloved wife of the late Stefan Stos, loving mother of Stanley Stos and John Stos and his wife, Laurie, adoring grandmother of Danielle, Ryan, Dylan, Jessica, Justine, and John Paul, loving great-grandmother of Dreya and Harlow, and sister of the late Stefanie Stus, and Gertrude Kowalczyk, and Stanley Kowalczyk.
