Virginia Sowers

Age - 94

November 14, 2023

"Virginia (Ginny) Sowers went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 2, 2023 after a six month illness at the age of 94. Ginny was preceded in death by her husband Skeeter Sowers, a daughter Beth Sowers, a son-in-law Bob Smith, a son-in-law Ed Landry, sister Elizabeth Ross, and her brother Leroy Ross. Ginny is survived by her daughters, Sue (Gordon) Means, Ruth (Russell) Klostermann, Brenda (Hank) Landry, Linda Landry, and Norma (Dan) Klostermann. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church in Raymondville her whole adult life where she was an active member of the choir until she moved to Harlingen. Ginny began singing at an early age and sang in numerous Easter and Christmas Cantatas at First Baptist Church. In the absence of a choir director, Mom would lead the singing. We will always remember her singing "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Virginia was an employee of the Raymondville School District for 35 years as a secretary at the RISD cafeteria keeping school lunch program records. Mom had a deep love for all children and we seldom went anywhere that former students would recognize her and come and give her a hug. Mom had a knack for never meeting a stranger and would start a conversation with anyone. Mom spent her life loving being a vital part of her children and grandchildren's lives. In her later years she enjoyed going on several cruises with her daughters. Ginny also loved being able to watch her grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren play sports. She was known lovingly by her grandchildren as "Mamaw Normie". Ginny had many extended family members throughout her life. She has had a special extended family the last four years while at Spear Home. The family will be forever grateful for Kenny and Lisa Salazar, Olga Gutierrez, Elvia Livingston, Bianca Zuniga, Maria De La Rosa, Yolanda Hernandez, and Tommy Aleo. Please know that she loved all of you and thought of you as family. The family also is so grateful for Gentivia Hospice and especially Lupita Cortez, mom's guardian angel RN who has taken such good care of her during her time in hospice. We will miss Mom dearly but we know she is singing with the angelical choir and being with our dad and sister. We know from God's promise that we will see her again. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life. " John 3: 16.
