Carol Kay Nystrom Turlich, of Lumberton, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at age 79. She was born in Seattle, Washington, to Myrtle Wilger Nystrom Rowe and John August Nystrom. Carol grew up in California as one of five children. She was a member of the Homemakers Club in Lumberton. Carol loved plants and yard work, she also enjoyed watching hummingbirds feed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Darby and Patricia Herring; two brothers, John Robert Nystrom, Sr. and James Rowe; three son- in-laws, Randall Matte, Brian King and Mark Deloach; two grandsons, Jason Matte and Johnathan Deloach; 10 brother-in-laws, Huey, Bertram, Fredrick "Ricky", Clark "C.J.", Herman "Sonny" and Noel Turlich, Cecil Guthrie, Paul Darby, Ronald Herring and Alwin Armstrong and one sister-in-law, Audrey Guthrie. Carol is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Marion J. Turlich; four children, Kenneth A. Turlich, Christina Matte, Lisa Herrin (Rick) and Suzanne King; four grandchildren, Christopher Matte, Rochelle Deloach Ladner, Adam Turlich-King and Timothy King; four great-granddaughters, Alyssa, Peyton and Kendyl Matte and Terra Turlich-King; eight sister-in-laws, Freda Tinsley, Celina Armstrong, Joy Daviet, Bobbie Turlich, Nadine Turlich, Lucille Turlich, Patricia Turlich and Rita Nystrom; one brother-in-law, Donald Turlich; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family extends special thanks to Forrest General Hospice for care, support and friendship extended to Carol and family.

He worked for AOC for several years and enjoyed working on old cars. He was a HHS Class of 1985 graduate. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Flores Sr. and Martha C. Flores and a niece, Amanda Lee De Leon. Gerardo "Jerry" Amaya, age 82, was called home to be with the Lord Saturday December 16, 2023 at Valley Baptist Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born October 21, 1941 in Bayview, TX to Lisandro and Catalina E. Amaya. Jerry was a devout catholic and lifetime member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. In his professional career Gerardo had a long tenure and was a psychologist with Tropical Texas where he retired after 30 years of faithful service. After retirement he began his private practice and was self employed. In his leisure time he loved to ride his motorcycle, wood work, garden and yardwork. His passion was writing, he was an author and was very proud when his book published. He is preceded in death by his parents, Siblings, Jose Amaya, Francisco Amaya, Luis Amaya, Sixto Amaya, Heriberto Amaya, Victoria "Vicky" Ratliff, Selena "Sally" Castillo, and Eva Villanueva, a grandson, Alvarito Perez Jr. Jerry leaves to cherish his wonderful memory his loving and devoted wife of 39 years, Elvia Barron Amaya, Children, Linda Perez (Alvaro), Nora Cleghorn (David) and Anthony Jerome Amaya; Grandchildren, Analiza Perez (Oscar), Adrian Perez, Andres Perez (Vanessa), David Cleghorn, Jennifer Cleghorn and Stephanie Jasso; Great Grandchildren, Miles Perez, Redentor Perez, Balthazar Perez, Adeline Deolinda Perez, Andres Perez Jr. , Madison Perez, Joshua Perez, Alyssa Floynoy, Abrey Flornoy, Ikal Jasso and Iztal Jasso. Ricardo Jesus Martinez, age 83, went home to be with the Lord peacefully early Sunday morning December 17, 2023 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. He was born January 22, 1940 to Jesus Maria Martinez and Christina Chapa Martinez in NL Mexico. Mr. Martinez proudly served his country in the United States Marines Corps. and was honorably discharged. He was a patriotic man and proud to be a veteran of the Marines. He was a lifelong resident of Harlingen and member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was in the jewelry business most of his life in the downtown district of Harlingen at Commerce Jewelry Store up until he retired. Ricardo is preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Hector Javier Martinez, a sister, Diana Lopez, Brother in Laws, Adan Alvarez, Armando Lopez and Pedro "Pete" Pena and a grandson, Jorge Eduardo Martinez Jr. He leaves to treasure his wonderful memory, his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Olga Trevino Martinez, Children, Jorge Eduardo Martinez (Corina), Ricardo Arnoldo Martinez (Edna Eliserio Martinez), Veronica Marie Villarreal (Ricardo Villarreal); Grandchildren, Angela Elaine Cruz (Cresencio), Jessica Renee Martinez, Jesus Longoria (Mari Cruz), Anisa Sauceda (Johnny), Zachary Rick Martinez (Roselynn), Jake Aaron Martinez (Lani G. Martinez), Abigail Martinez, Haley Villarreal, Erik Villarreal, Valerie Villarreal, Ricardo Joseph Villarreal Jr. ; 18 Great Grandchildren; his Sisters, Virginia Alvarez of McAllen, Gloria Huerta (Joe) of Houston and Gracie Pena of Harlingen. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends and a close family friend whom he loved as a son, Pastor Carl Flowers. Visitation is scheduled to be held Tuesday December 19, 2023 from 1 pm to 9 pm with a prayer of the Holy Rosary Service at 6:00 pm, led by Bro Hoss Alvarez followed with a prayer service with Pastor Carl Flowers officiating. A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday December 20, 2023 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Las Rusias Cemetery, Los Indios with full military honors under the auspices of the American Legion Post 205 funeral honor guard. She was born on February 13, 1948, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Marvin Bland and Leta Faye Lawhorn. Marlyn was a longtime member of the North 7th Street Church of Christ and a resident of Harlingen for the past 32 years. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 56 years, Walter Patrick Thorn; a son, Troy Thorn (married to Alicia); and a daughter, Michelle Renee Sanchez (married to Nate Morin). Her grandchildren are Troy Thorn Jr. , Gage Thorn, Rakina Cummings, Adan Sanchez Jr. , Marcos Sanchez, Adrianna Sanchez, Miguel Sanchez, Alyssa Sanchez, Marianna Sanchez, Angel Sanchez, and Jennifer Martinez. Her great-grandchildren are Kalicia, Khloe, Jericho, Jacoby Rudebusch, and Jacob Ismael Sanchez Moreno. She is also survived by her only sister, Sharon Luttrell, and cousin, Billy Jenkins. Victoria R. Elizondo, 86, was met by the warm embrace of Our Lord and Savior on Dec. 5, 2023, at her home in Primera. Born in Zontecomatlan, Veracruz, to Hilarion Ramirez and Eulalia Morales, she came to Harlingen in 1960, where she married Jose Elizondo in 1962. Victoria dedicated her life to God. In 1979, she and her husband donated land to the Rev. Samuel Aguilar, building El Buen Pastor Church next to their home on Stuart Place Road. For two generations of children, she was loved as a mother. After raising her three children, she and her husband helped their son, Cain, raise his three daughters. Victoria devoted her life to her children and grandchildren, helping them through their educations, sharing her lifelong love of reading, writing and learning with them. At home, she shared her passion for cooking and baking with family and friends, and her fascination with plants and herbs. Victoria was preceded in death by her husband Jose Elizondo; her son Cain Elizondo; and siblings. She is survived by her bother Eustacio Ramirez, her sister Ramira Ramirez Morales; daughters Noelia Elizondo (Fernando Del Valle) and Melissa Aguirre (Antonio Aguirre Jr. ); grandchildren Maria Garza, Apolonia, Eulalia and Enzo Elizondo; Miranda and Sarita Del Valle; Isabella, Mia, Abigail and Lily Aguirre; nine great-grandchildren; nephew, Pete Monroy and her cherished niece Annie Flores, and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9p. m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, with a prayer service at 7p. m. at Trinity Funeral Home in Harlingen. A church service will be held at 10a. m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at El Buen Pastor Church in Primera, with burial to follow at Harlingen Combes Memorial Cemetery in Combes. Pallbearers will be Fernando Del Valle, Antonio Aguirre Jr. , Enzo Elizondo, Sammy Aguilar, Jacob Ortiz and Jason Alcocer.
