Sidney Marshall Caldwell, of Clover, SC, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the age of 77. One of four children, Marshall was born at home on October 30, 1945 in Lowell, NC to the late Sidney Edward Caldwell and MaDora Magdalene (Greene) Caldwell. When Marshall was an early teenager, the family relocated to the Charlotte area. He attended West Mecklenburg High School ('64), where he met and fell in love with his future wife, Carolyn Love. On February 5, 1965, during Carolyn's senior year, they were married in York, SC. Marshall and Carolyn went on to welcome two children, Christine and Randy, and they were members of First United Methodist Church in Clover. Following graduation, Marshall promptly joined the workforce in the Auto Industry. Throughout his roughly five-decade-long career, he worked primarily as an Auto Parts Salesman and was employed long-term with both NAPA and Joint & Clutch. He eventually celebrated full retirement in 2018. Marshall loved all things car related outside of work as well; he enjoyed working on cars, attending area car shows, and watched many NASCAR races over the years, both on TV and in person. As a generous and devoted dad, Marshall once bought his children go-karts and built them a track to ride on. Big on sports in general, Marshall played golf when he was younger and took interest in any game, match, or tournament on TV. He notably rooted for the Steelers and especially loved watching golf in recent years. Sweet, loving, honest, and bold - Marshall was extraordinary and authentic and he will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. Those left to honor Marshall's memory include his beloved wife of 58 years, Carolyn L. Caldwell; daughter, Christine C. Payseur (Chuck); grandchildren, Blake Payseur (Katie) and Randi Sullivan (Drew); great-grandchildren, Gunner Hopper, Madilyn Reese Payseur, and Lainey Rae Payseur; and sister, Diane Tate; as well as countless other cherished nieces, nephews, other family members, and dear friends. In addition to his parents, Marshall has been reunited in Heaven with his son, Randy Scott Caldwell; and brothers, Billy Caldwell and Jackie Eugene Caldwell. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 12:00pm until 1:00pm on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte. The funeral service is to be conducted at 1:00pm, immediately following the visitation, in the Paul Helton Chapel at the funeral home, where Pastor Scott Sherrill is to officiate. The services will conclude with the burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. In honor of Marshall's benevolent nature, memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to a charity close to your heart.
