"Shirley Elizabeth Tuell Nelson, age 87, of Bluff City, TN, passed away on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton. She was a daughter of the late Charlie and Hazel Leonard Tuell and was born in Washington County, VA on May 18, 1936. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Tignor; a grandson, David Tignor; two sisters, Betty Carmack and husband Bob and Audrey Smith. Shirley had worked in special education as a teacher's assistant. She was a member of Piney Flats First Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and singing with The Singing Christians for over 20 years. Those left to cherish her memories include her husband, Clay Nelson of the home; one son, Marty Nelson and fiance Mary Lewis of Meadowview, VA; one daughter, Angela Nelson Flick and husband Shane of Bristol, VA; four grandchildren, Brent Nelson and fiance Amanda Stewart of Canonsburg, PA, Jessica Tignor and husband Levi of Meadowview, VA; JJ Sandoe and wife Hannah of Piney Flats and Emily Tignor of Abingdon, VA; four great-grandchildren, Kylie Tignor, Michael Tignor, Braxton Nelson and Tayland Nelson; a son-in-law, Kyle Tignor and wife Donna of Abingdon, VA; and several nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate the life of Shirley Elizabeth Tuell Nelson will be conducted at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Piney Flats First Baptist Church with Dr. Allen Davis officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the church on Wednesday. The graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Abingdon, VA. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Shirley's many friends will serve as honorary pallbearers. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 AM on Thursday. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to Piney Flats First Baptist Church 100 Cherry Rd, Piney Flats, TN 37686. "Aug. 10th, 1934- Dec. 4th, 2023 James LaVaughn "J. L. " Norris was born in Elk Mills TN, to James Bert Norris and Frances Pearl Norris, elder brother to Jerry Mack Norris and Rita Kay Perkins. J. L. was a member and Deacon at Hampton First Baptist. He taught Sunday School and Big A for many years. J. L attended grade school at Hampton Elementary and Hampton High, graduating in 1952. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956. Following his service, he attended East Tennessee State University with a bachelor's in education and then a masters, graduating in 1959. J. L. had a 26-year career in education beginning with his first teaching job at Surgoinsville where he served as a drivers ed instructor. He went on to teach at Morganton Jr High, and Cranberry in North Carolina. J. L. then started teaching and coaching basketball at Central Elementary in Carter County before becoming a principal. His years as a coach earned him a spot in the Carter County Sports Hall of Fame. He then transferred to central administration to become Supervisor of Special Education and then of Secondary Education. J. L. finished his career as principal at Hampton Elementary. In addition to teaching, J. L. worked in the post office for 39 years as a mail carrier and was elected magistrate for Carter County's 11th District in 1960, serving for 6 years. He was also a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. J. L married the love of his life, Lillian "Eldona" Norris on August 7th, 1964, in Union Baptist Church. They were married for 59 years. He is survived by his wife, children Vonda Haney and Robbie (Natalie) Norris, niece Letha (Mac) Stricklin, as well as 6 grandchildren, Lindsey, Thomas, Jamie, Gunnar, Cade and Whitney and two great grandchildren. A celebration of life for J. L. will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 in the Chapel of Peace at Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Pastor Richard Stout officiating. A eulogy will be provided by Mr. O. J. Roberson. Music will be under the direction of Whitney Stricklin, harmonica, Lisa Hendrix, soloist and Karen Timbs, pianist. The family will receive friends between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel prior to the service on Wednesday. The graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Cade Norris, Gunnar Norris, Thomas Haney, Calvin Thompson, Brad Perkins, Samuel Perkins and O. J. Roberson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Blackburn, Mac Stricklin, Darryl Hendrix, Mark Grindstaff, Carl Taylor, Harold McEwen, Richard Campbell, Will Andrews and Doug Vines. "Charles Patrick Ward, age 55, of Sam Eller Road, Elk Park, North Carolina, after a long illness, left this world to be with his creator on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 around 2:00 PM. Charles is preceded in death by his father, Charles Ward; his brother, BrIan Ward; and his grandparents, Coyd and Elizabeth Hoilman of Newland, NC and Aris and Grace Ward of Elizabethton, TN. Surviving are his mother, Sharon W. Ward of Roan Mountain, Tennessee; and one sister, Elizabeth Harrell and husband Brent of Knoxville, Tennessee; six uncles on his mother's family side: Floyd Hoilman, Lloyd Hoilman, Fred Hoilman, Ted Hoilman and Herman Hoilman all of Newland, North Carolina; his aunts on his mother's family side: Alphalea Hughes, Loretta Hughes and Verline Davis, Nora Johnson, and Barbara Young; his uncles on his father's family side: Jerry Ward, Richard Ward, Harold Ward of Elk Park; his aunts on his father's family side: Frances Taylor, Teresa Hicks and Shirley Shook; and lots of cousins also survive. "Terry Edward Nave, age 80, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Hillview Health and Rehab Center of Elizabethton. Terry was born in Elizabethton to the late Eugene E. Nave and Thelma Snavely Nave. In addition to his parents, Terry was also preceded in death by three brothers-in-law, Jack Bunton, Herbert Glover and wife Marie and Harmon Glover and wife Wilma. Terry was a sweet, kind, loving, generous and honest man who loved his grandchildren and would do anything for anyone in need. He was a wonderful husband of 58 years, father and grandfather and was very smart. Terry retired as district manager for JCPenney Company and was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church for 13 years. Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf with his wife, traveling but most of all he loved making memories and spending time with his beloved family. Those left to cherish Terry's sweet memory include his wife, Carolyn Nave of the home; his son, Stephen Craig and wife Amy of Stuart, Florida; his daughter, Christy Blackman and husband Lew of Carrollton, GA; his grandchildren, Brooklyn Reuillon and husband Nico of Stuart, Florida, Bethany Blackman, Madeline Blackman and Thomas Blackman all of Carrollton, GA; two sisters, Joyce Savage and husband Charles and Alice Bunton all of Elizabethton; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and other extended family also survive. Proverbs 31:28-29 Louise Colbaugh Street found grace and mercy in the eyes of the Lord and left this world to be with him on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the age of 91. Her faith, love and strength will never be matched. Our hearts are sad but we are overjoyed with the assurance that she is with the Father. Resting in his arms; restored to immaculate health. Louise was born June 23, 1932 to the late John S. Colbaugh, Sr. and Gladys Steffey Colbaugh. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John L. Street, Sr. ; son, John L. Street, Jr. ; daughter, Patsy Street Livingston; granddaughter, Jamie Lin Snapp; brothers, Bob, Sam, Tom and Rex Colbaugh; sisters, Christine Carriger, Faye and Janette Colbaugh; as well as three infant siblings. She is survived by her children, Larry Street, Becky Street Snapp and Mindi Street Coleman and husband Jason; grandchildren, Megan Street Chadwick and husband Ryan, Brooke Street Wilcox and husband Stephen, Scott Snapp, Jr. and wife Lauren, Lucas Snapp and wife Hannah, Dylan Snapp and wife Brittany, Sarah Dykes, Mikala Dial and husband Andrew; brothers, Ted Colbaugh and wife Carolyn and Roy Colbaugh; son-in-law, Luther Livingston; brother-in-law, Richard Street and wife Ella Mae; daughter-in-law and special care giver, Becky Street; nine great grandchildren and number ten on the way. "JB Morley, age 85, of Elizabethton, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Signature Health and Rehab Center. JB was born in Carter County to the late Ivan and Vanetia (Elliott) Morley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Ava Nell (Eggers) Morley; and his step mother, Yvonne Morley. JB retired from the Carter County Highway Department and was a member of Dungan's Chapel Baptist Church in Elizabethton. JB was a United States Air Force veteran and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed putting out and tending to his garden and was an avid Dodger's baseball fan and UT Vols fan. Those left to cherish and remember JB include his son, James Morley and wife Janet; his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kristen Morley Taylor and husband Jacob of Wiesbaden Germany, Jamie Morely of Elizabethton, Seth Taylor, Carly Taylor and Ellie Taylor all of Wiesbaden, Germany; and his brother, Dale Morley and wife Bev. "Corrine Williams Ballard, age 88, of Elizabethton, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the Hermitage Health Center of Elizabethton. Corrine was born in Hampton, Tennessee to the late Jessie and Maggie Wilson Williams. Corrine was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Mack Ballard in 2022; four sisters; two brothers; and a son-in-law, Jerry English. Corrine retired from the restaurant business and was a loyal and devoted member of Union Hill Free Will Baptist Church. She was above all, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, who loved her family and her Lord with everything she had. Corrine enjoyed working dot to dot puzzle books and spending time making memories with her family. Those left to remember and cherish Corrine's memory include her daughters, Karen Ward and husband Kenneth of Elizabethton and Lorraine English of Johnson City; her son, Alan Grindstaff of Elizabethton; four granddaughters; six great granddaughters; two great grandsons; two great great granddaughters; and a special cousin, Ray Williams and wife Onie.
