Shirley J. Brunette, 85, of Escanaba, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Hospital. She was born on August 20, 1936 in Escanaba, daughter to Benedict and Loretta (Richards) Mannebach. Shirley graduated from St. Joseph High School, class of 1954. She continued her education at Cloverland Commercial College. On May 14, 1955, Shirley married Herman J. Brunette at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Escanaba. Shirley was employed with DNLS Railroad for one year before beginning her career at Brunette and Son as business manager from 1970 until her retirement in 2000. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Escanaba. Shirley enjoyed playing bingo, going to the casino, crocheting and knitting hats and mittens which she often donated to St. Thomas Church. Among survivors include her children, Yvonne (Rob) VanEffen, Patti Brunette, Kenneth (Debi) Brunette, Amy (Ken) Micks, Lucy (Conroy) Houle, and Edward (Tabitha) Brunette; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Ann Villarreal; and sister-in-law, Wanda Mannebach. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; son, Benedict Brunette; two grandchildren, Jessica Lambert and Joseph Micks; and brother, David Mannebach. Visitation will be on Friday, June 24th from 1:30 - 3:30 p. m. at the Crawford Funeral Home, 302 S. 13th St. , Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4:00 p. m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with Rev. Rick Courier officiating. Burial will take place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery. The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the family.
