"Mrs. Shirley Ann Simmons Bess, 79, was born July 23, 1944 and entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 23, 2023. In 2 Corinthians 5:8, it says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So we put all our trust in him. Shirley leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, John A. Bess; children: Felisha Bess, Merald (Mahlon) Hayes, and Ebony (Chad) Nye. Grandchildren: Taylor Bess, Landon Nye, Payton Nye, and Myles Hayes. Great grandchildren: Chanel Lasker and Adonis McEachern, and a host of siblings, aunt, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Shirley was a retired educator with Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester Head Start and a full time loving grandmother.
